  1. So, I am excited because for those who know me I have to do a six month diet and lose 10% of my weight before my insurance will approve me. I went to see the surgeon on March 25th so that means I should put my papers in on Sept 25th as long as I have lost 30 pounds. Well, I just found out that they will let me use my original doctors appointment on February 3rd as my start date putting me at July 3rd instead WAHOO!!! THe problem you ask? I gained 10 pounds in February but then I have lost it so now I'm back to square one but that means I have to get off 30 pounds by July 3rd. I want this sooo badly! My question is- How can you lose 30 pounds in seven weeks? I know it sounds crazy and if I were reading this from someone else I would think that is not the brightest thing in the world but now that I'm on the other side of it I want to get approved as soon as possible just in case my insurance changes and I'm not covered anymore, that just happened to one of my friends and it is a worry in this economy. The surgeon also waits to schedule you out six weeks AFTER the approval letter so I'm look at sometime in August for surgery, which is fine by me, it will give me more time to get some weight off and it's a heck of a lot better than October like I originally thought. I figure I weigh a lot so if I lose fast it would probably be fine in the beginning. Ive thought about a liquid diet or Master Cleanse. Does anyone have any experience with these?
  2. Which one should I choose? My doctor said that they are both the same but that the other doctor in the office doesn't like the realize bands because he has had more problems with them. What do you guys think? It would nice to have the tools but I just want to darn thing to last so I really don't want to use that as a determining factor, ya know? How many CC's does the lap hold and how many does Realize hold. DOes it make a difference? Thanks!
  3. In case something goes wrong and they have to go in a fix it? Does it just depend on the insurance or do most of them do it? I don't think mine does.
  4. Those are great ideas, thank you! WIsh me luck! It's going to be a long seven weeks  Hope you don't mind if I come on here and complain. jk
  5. Thanks for the tips! Keep them coming RestlessMonkey- what was your pre op diet like? Was it hard or did it get easier? Libby Jane what Protein shakes did you use?
  6. I guess one thing I have learned in all of the process is that WE are losing the weight, not the band! But other people just don't get that. I just don't want them to think that oh, its because she has that thing in her and that is why she is successful. But in someway that is true... MY other thought is that I have always wanted to go into nutrition, I find it fascinating but I"m worried that if they found out I have the band they won't take me seriously. I would have a hard time listening to someone if they had one. I'm beginning to realize that my wait to get the band has been a good one! I'm learning a lot about myself and about the way I want to do things. If I had just gone and done self pay like I was going to instead of jumping the insurance hoops I would miss everything I figuring out now. Restless Monkey, you are so right. It is just easier to be able to tell the truth. I just don't think that my circle of friends and family really get it and its easier to just keep them in the dark for now. Although, I'm sure they would feel hurt if they found out eventually.. not that its really any of their business.
  7. I've never really had surgery. I got my tubes tied and I'm wondering what to compare the pain too... What are your thoughts?
  8. I really hate the way pain pills make me feel. I almost feel worse on them than off. When I had my tubes tied I hated the Percocet they gave me. Has anyone been able to bounce back with just taking ibuprofen only?
  9. I'm going to probably be banded in October too! WHy do you have to wait so long? Mine is because of insurance. We should totally help each other along with the wait!

  10. Hey I love your nails they do look pretty! The crazy thing is that I thought I was looking at my hand!! We could totally by "hand twins." (You know, like on Friends) haha. Maybe its time for me to go get mine done too!

  11. Hahaha! I totally know what you mean. I think the revision stories are the scariest because I don't think I could afford to do one!! I backed out before in February, only had one week to go and I just didn't feel good about the doctor. I don't think I will back out this time because I'm going about it the right way. I just sooo hope I'm approved. THe GOOD thing I found out today is that they can take my appointment I had in February instead of March and I just hopefully moved my date up a few months for completing my six month pro op diet!! The only bad thing is that I have gained weight since then so technically I need to lose 30 pounds in seven weeks. I'm not even sure that is possible.. What do you think? Crazy? lol

You will have to keep me updated! I will throw a little band party in my head when you get your new date! yay!

  12. I'm going to start a whole new one so when I get it up and running I will let you know! Thanks :)

  13. You are hilarious! I love your quick wit! It's a breath of fresh air to meet someone like you.. I so agree with everything you said! That is me to a T

    I'm feeling a little "obsessyish"

I am officially obsessed! I've been reading stories on here and I want so badly to get my surgery approved!! I still have a long way to go. I need to lose 30 pounds and I'm down 9, which is good but I would like to see more, don't we all! I can't submit my papers until September 25th because that will be six months to the day I started my pre op weight loss diet required by my insurance. I've been reading stories on here about people who are scheduled in June and July and I can't help but to be so incredibly envious! I know this will be a process. I need to be ok with losing weight wether or not I get banded. I need to stop obsessing about the band itself and focus more on losing weight. THe more I lose now the more sucessful I will be! I was originally scheduled for surgery feb 5th but backed out a week before. I just didn't have that great of feeling about the doctor and I was also self pay. I found out that if I try to jump through some hoops my insurance might pay for it so I have to exhaust that before I put it on plastic. I know I'm doing this the right way but it's so hard to be patient! I've been looking into this since january and it won't be until October if everything is approved. It just seems so far away! sigh OH well... one step at a time. It's good for me to learn what it takes to do it right the first time. I so look forward to seeing the onderland again!

    Hello

Hey Mrs Donna, I too am a newbie and waiting to get approved but my insurance requires me to do a 6 month diet to lose 10% of my body weight so for now I'm just waiting it out doing weight watchers. I hope you get approved!! Jen
  17. You totally crack me up! I spent an hour reading your blog and giggling. Ive read a lot of your posts and I know I don't post much but I'm adding you as a friend, hope you don't mind! You have inspired me to start my own blog, thanks!

Any recommendations for a local therapist?

Hey Lori, the psychologist that I saw at Dr. Cottom/Richards office was amazing! She really put me at ease and helped me figure a few things out in the short half hour I had with her.. she only has obese patients too. I will call tomorrow and get hr name for ya! P.S. I grew up in Sandy!

    Lapband Surgeon

I was going to be a self pay patient and was scheduled Feb 5th but back out. I just didn't have that great of feeling for either doctor. If I had to choose between the two I would go with Dr. Allredge because when I was talking to Dr. Hansen I told him I was giong to get my tubes tied the next morning and he offered to do it for me.. he said "Its not big deal, you just have to snip snip, I can ask someone how to do it, just schedule them together" ALthough Dr. A doesn't have the most amazing personality he seems very meticulous. Just don't let them bully you into staying with them. I tried Cottom/Richards office and liked my experience there a litte better but then again I'm trying to go through insurance and maybe the thought of not having to be a self pay makes me feel better. Good luck! Jen
  23. Ive heard its really hard to get approved. I went to Dr. Richards for the consult and am currently on my six month Dr supervised diet. She seemed ok, not overly friendly but I had a better experience there than I did at South Valley. I actually had a surgery scheduled in Feb. through them but as a self pay but backed out because they were really pushy about getting me in. I didn't like what the doctor said in one of his seminars- "You can pretty much eat whatever you want, just in smaller quantaties" I feel like this is SO not true. YOu can't just eat whatever you want. Anyway my husband became self employed and trying to get his company up and running we qualified for medicaid. I was surprised that they do pay for it, I am just so worried that I will do the six month thing and then they will come back and say, no, we wont pay for it. If any of you have been through this before will you please tell me about your experience? What you had to submit, tests you had to take, denials or approvals and how long it took. THank you!!
  24. Can someone please tell me exactly how long it took to get approved, what you had to do, what tests you had to have, and the time line?? Or is there any blogs? For where I am they require a one year doctor supervised diet with no weight change, and then a six month diet losing 10% of your weight and keeping it off. Right now I am doing the waiting game. My insurance specialist at the bariatrich center submitted my papers to just 'see what happens' and of course I was denied saying that I didn't have the six month diet. I started on March 25th so I can submit my papers on August 25th. THEN I have to wait another six weeks to get scheduled for surgery because that is how the doctor spaces out her medicaid surgeries, so I'm looking at the end of October. I am so afraid that I will work hard to get these 30 pounds off and then have them say... sorry we still won't pay for it. I know that either way losing weight is a good thing for me, I'm just sitting on pins and needles because its something I want SO BADLY. I love to hear stories so please post yours to give me something to do in the meantime! THanks! Jen

    Does anyone miss soda?

For those of you who are avid soda pop drinkers, do you miss it? I was told during my consulataion that if you drink soda after lap band your stomach can explode. I'm sure there is a very small chance of this happening but I wouldn't ever risk it. My favorite food is diet pepsi. I only let myself have it as an occasional treat but I am going to be sad to give it up!
