Apparent allergic reaction to surgical glue
knwitham posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm itching like crazy!! It appears that I have a true allergy to adhesives. Monday, after my surgeon took my steri strips off, I started noticing some serious itching from my incision sites. I thought that itching meant healing, so I was just going to try to be tough and suck it up and not scratch. But then...things got crazy! The skin around the glue started blistering, turning shades of red, and hot and hard to the touch. I went to the ER last night because I was scared maybe they were infected, but the Dr. said he believes it's just an allergic reaction to the surgical adhesive. Has this happend to anyone else? How long did it take to clear up?? Thanks in advance! -
How many cc's do you have? How many fills so far?
knwitham replied to tripletmomma2000's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Karen, You are doing phenomenal! I have had 3 fills so far. 1st: 2CC 2nd: 2.5CC 3rd: 1cc Toal 5.5CC's I am feeling a lot of restriction, which I am surprised by. If i eat to fast or to much I slime, so I have learned the hard way to slow down my eating. I am down 33 lbs so far and feeling great! I haven't had any drinking issues with eating so far, the only time really is if i'm having wine with dinner, then I do drink while I eat, but thats not too often. -
Has anyone felt weird after their fill?
knwitham replied to tke100's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had those symptoms, but I am usually quite gassy after a fill. I'm not sure if these two things are related or not, but I've noticed how I burp for an hour or so after each fill. -
My warning sign is when my chest gets tight...so strange! I always get the hiccups after I PB though, so it's interesting to see so many other ppl get them too!

*YAY* Finally we have our own forum! I was thinking that a bio thread would be a great first start to this forum. I know a lot of us already introduced ourselves under the August thread in the July forum, but now that we have our own space lets start over! So a little about me, I am 24 years old and from Peabody MA. I am scheduled for surgery @ Lahey Clinic in Burlington on August 14th. Currently I am 5ft 1 and 249 lbs, giving me a BMI of 47, ekkk! I have always been overweight and don't remember the last time I was in the 100's. As of right now, I am still waiting for approval from Aetna, lets hope that comes soon! Well as for me I'm an open book so feel free to ask me anything, I can't wait to talk with everyone. We are going to really need eachother in the upcoming weeks/months!

I was banded on 8/14 and have my first fill 9/11 so we have the exact same timing in between. I too was worried that I wouldn't be healed all the way, but we'll see!

Can't take anymore protein shakes!
knwitham replied to adelarosa33's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not sure if anyone else's dr's told them this but we were advised against the protein shot/bullets. My dr. said that it wasn't the "right type" of protein. Just thought I would let you know this, incase you hadn't discussed these with your dr. -
My surgery is this Friday 8/14 and I plan to go back to work Wednesday 8/19. I am an admin so pretty low key and not at all physical.

I started my 2 week pre-op diet this saturday. I have to drink 5 HMR shakes a day along with 64 oz clear liquids. I feel like i'm drowning drinking so much, I am going to the bathroom every 30 minutes, and I am starving Next Friday can't come quick enough!

August Abolishers? Does that make sense? lol sounds pretty!
-
My dr. requires 2 weeks of a shake only diet. The hospital prefers we use the HMR brand which they sell there. This program consits of a vitamin (provided) 2 shakes for breakfast, 2 shakes for lunch, 1 shake for dinner and another vitamin. The cost of this program is $60 a week which is out of pocket. I would love to know if anyone else is doing an HMR diet or has in the past!
