    Day OF and AFTER surgery?

Thank you all for sharing. Everyone's experience is insightful and helpful. I am ready to have surgery and have my pre-op appointment tomorrow but now just get to have the waiting game. And i'm hoping the rest is easier than this pre-op diet!

    It's taking forever

The process is such a pain in the ass, but it seems to be in place for good reason. I decided a year ago that I was going to have surgery and it has taken a year to find the time for surgery as well as the surgeon. Sometimes I think that I have waited long enough and other times I just tell myself to be patient. I do agree though, the massive amounts of appointments are more of a list to accomplish. It would be nice if you could have all your tests done at the same place, not necessarily at the same time, but it would be even better! That way you're not running around flipping out getting to appointments in different places (in my case, different cities) and having all of the work sent to another office hoping it gets there. I guess it does bring reality to the situation, but over the past year I have decided I am not waiting another year and just have to deal with the annoying amount of appointments and waiting. Sometimes you just have to rant and say "all of this is absolute BULLSHIT" in order to come back around and realize it is all for good reason.

    Sil?

My surgeon told me that she wanted to do a single incision surgery. I guess that means I am getting SIL? I hadn't heard of it before this post, but I did look it up after. NYU Medical Center actually advertises it (where i am having surgery) yet I guess I didn't notice. I was just excited by the prospect of only having one incision!

    Day OF and AFTER surgery?

Thanks! I am just eager to have this surgery already! 2 weeks of liquid diet is beyond e-x-c-e-s-s-i-v-e and I have nothing but 2 more weeks of liquids to look forward to after surgery!
  5. This is because you are eating fruit, which is sweet and sugary which causes your blood sugar levels to rise and then sharply fall (where the cravings come from!). Fruit is great for you, but include something like eggs (think eggs more than nuts etc) or other Protein (I know it sounds redundant) and you'll find that you eventually wont have those cravings and urges anymore, and no more munching will be needed!

    Help? Emotional Eating

The band will only change your physical act of eating, not the emotional or mental! If there is emotional eating, make sure that you get to the root of that, instead of looking for the band to take care of it. Definitely look into it.
  7. Regardless of what is happening to your body, I was always told that losing weight results in hair loss or thinning hair.
  8. My self-pay package includes appointment with surgeon and nutritionist (and more if necessary) as well as any fills for a year after surgery. It doesn't seem like much, but it is a lot all the same!

    Jealous People

Negativity only breeds more negativity. I would have just ignored the comments. Focus on yourself and what you've accomplished so far instead of having to defend and explain yourself. Think about how much farther you can go, and just remind yourself your cousin will probably stay the same.

    2 Week Liquid Diet

Hey there, I am in the same boat as you. I go through fits of hunger maybe once a day and it is most often when I am going to bed. I drink Slimfast Optima all day and that really helps, but also make sure you are staying hydrated in terms of drinking other things like crystal lite etc. because it's easy to think since we are drinking on a liquid diet that liquids are not so important but they are. Many times hunger is actually thirst and it's extremely hard to tell the difference. If I am STARVED I know it will pass but I drink crystal lite pink lemonade with LOTS of ice cubes. Some how, maybe the cold, has been able to soothe my stomach as well as my hunger just long enough so I can fall back asleep. Maybe that will help you?
  11. I'm a man, and i am definitely as real as real can be. And I am having surgery next week. That doesn't mean I am having my nails done, too, but hey...maybe I should!!! Haha
  12. Hi there, I am on day 2 of my Optifast liquid diet and I have to say the hungry feeling has disappeared. I had a headache yesterday but today I am feeling a lot better. The only hard thing to deal with is walking by the fridge. I've been cooking meals for my family and watching them eat and enjoy the food but I haven't really been upset about not eating. I thought it was going to be much harder to do this, but I have kept to my decision. I just remind myself that I will be able to eat these foods again in the future, just not right now. I don't think i'm missing out that much. Even if I would rather just eat. When I am hungry, I cook some asparagus is chicken broth. I am a chef, so I use the low sodium chicken broth. I will sautee some lemongrass, onions, and mushooms in a pan with barely any oil. Then I just add it to the chicken stock with a pinch of salt and pepper. I also add in a dash or two of ricewine vinegar to get the asian feel on. This has helped me a lot. On my diet I'm only allowed 2 C of certain veggies a day. Using the vinegar changes the taste of the stock so it isn't the same thing over and over again. It hasn't been easy so far, and there are literally 2 weeks to go still but somehow, I know I can do this.
  13. I just started my pre-op diet today! I am not enjoying it so far and I planned on the first day being the worst. It's been easier than I thought, but now i'm starting to get hungry. I am on a liquid diet, but I just ate a huge bowl of sugar-free jello--that seems to be filling me up in terms of feeling like i've actually "eaten." Hope this gets easier!

    hiatal hernia

Hello, I am also a self pay and also have a hitial hernia. In my paperwork it states that if the surgeon finds the condition, it will automatically repaired without a fee but there will ONLY be a fee for the anesthesiologist for the extra time.
