It is a hard decision to make, i went through a similat phase. My famil and few close friends knew, but my work colleagues i wasnt sure about. I think it was a combination of fear it wouldnt work, its not their business anyway - its a personal journey and i will be watched and talked about constantly. Then i thought well they are going to notice all this weight falling off and those few that i told would probably let the cat out of the bag, then i'd look like a fool. So i decided that after i had it done and people said "your losing weight how are you doing it?" I would say that i had the band. Its not a cop out because we all know that its all about diet and exercise, but it doesnt work for us all. I want to have a healthy lifestyle and if having a band can give that to me then so be it. You still have to eat healthy and keep fit, its just a tool to help uis through it. At the end of the day its your decision and how comfortable you are with telling these people, yes it will put you on the spot light as people cant help but comment and dont understand the process fully. You focus on being mentally prepared for your op and the rest will come later when you are good and ready. You know when its the right time! Sorry, i wrote an essay! Good luck with it all....

Sorry to hear about hubby, but thats so nice that you want to do this for him aswell. You will get there and the results are amazing, losing the weight on the optifast before your op will inspire you even more.

Youve done so well already! Keep going, were all here for you when need advice to help you through it! Good Luck! Banded 15/01/2009 Lost to date: 17.2kilos *And that was with a leaking port!! All good though just had it replaced today - feel great!
-
Firstly good luck with it all, you will be fine. Weve all felt that way, i know i did, i kept saying am i making the right decision? What if im one of those people it doesnt work for as i dont have much will power? Its natual darl, liquids, i had the optifast and was surprised how well i tolerated it. I sometimes had steam vegies at night (cause you can) Im a daily weigher too, sad i know! LOL along the way, you will still get depressing moments but thats expected. So where and when you getting it done and by who? How exciting!!!!!

I can't believe poeple can be sooo cruel.....wait a minute yes i can! It just saddens me that doctors who are meant to be there for us and offer support and comfort can really hurt someones confidence. But good on you Suzie for taking it with a grain of salt and proving them wrong! Good luck with your weight loss journey too.

Hi everyone, well just got home after having my port replaced by Stephen Blamey at the Cabrini hospital. I cant believe how quick and easy everything was!! The staff were great! I was admitted at 7am, in by 8am and woke up at 9, was on my way home by 10, which is wonderful. Walking around easy, no discomfort which im very happy bout. I just hope that the port replacement does the trick and thats were the leak was and its not somewhere else along the band. MMM, onto my second cup of coffee, how i missed it! Anyway, if theres anyone in a similar situation, drop me a line. This is only my second post as im new to this all still, but before and after my op reading these blogs helped me sooooo much that i'd only love to return the favour to any future and present bandsters!

People will always be judgemental hon, like the others have said, don't let his comments get to you. Stay positive and remember, you're doing this for yourself and no one else ok. Thats great that you've taken the initiative to start the optifast early, hang in there, the day will come when you will turn around a say "I've done it and I'm proud!"

Hi all...I'm new to this, infact this is my first entry ever and still learning my way round. Ive only had my band for 4 months and with my luck it has a leak, so im going in for surgery tomorrow to have the port replaced. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else so soon and whether theyve had any problems with scar tissue build up as thats what im worried about?
