    bored

Please don't be scared. I live away from my hometown for work and I know what you mean about having friends or a person nearby that is going through the same thing as you. I started looking and posting videos on YTube and that helps me. I know that it is not for everyone but it was easy for me to meet others that are going through the same experience. I've also found this site helpful. If you have questions or concerns don't hesitate to ask. Wishing you all the best.
  3. They will notice but one thing I like about the lap band is that the weight loss is gradual. I did not broadcast my surgery to co workers either. Frankly, it isn't anyone's business. Especially, in the beginning stages. It is enough trying to adapt to the new lifestyle. I defintely did not want to hear from others who were going to be negative or provide feedback that I was not ready to hear. Good luck!
  4. The gas x strips did not work for me but the gas x pills did/do. Take those and also pepcid chewable pills. Both work wonders.

    Apple juice

I had apple juice the day after surgery and everything was fine. I was told avoid orange juice and soda.
  6. I was outpatient as well but it took me a week because I had a reaction to the anaeshesia but 4 to 5 days is very realistic IF you are not doing a lot of physical labor.

    Book suggestions...

I loved the Lapband Companion Book.

    Confused. Can someone help me??

New I am 5’5 and started off weighing 244. This weight placed me right at the suggested BMI that my doctor recommended for surgery. The doctor will definitely go by your BMI. I suggest that you go to the orientation to get additional information and to get answers to questions that you may have. Good luck!
  9. You are doing fine because you are losing. The weightloss is slower with the band. i just had this conversation with my Dr. yesterday. I was banded December 31st. i've lost 27 pounds. For my weight my doctor said that I ma on target. I average about a pound a week. Hang in there and you will start seeing more progress after a few months.

    Hello from Martinez CA

I was nervous but after the classes and lost of research I was OK. You will be fine. Just go into it with realistic expectations. I have had it for almost 6 months and things are going great. I was even brave enough to talk about it on youtube. I've actually gotten alot of support and feedback from there. Just stay positive. If you have questions feel free to email. Wishing you all the best!

    Can Anybody Relate?

I was banded 12/31/2008 (New Years Eve) and I definitely understand. I have had 3 fills and weight is coming off slow but overall I am averaging about 1 pound a week. iIhave lost a total of 25 pounds, but I am steadily losing so I am okay with that. Some weeks hold steady but I believe that as long as the weight is coming off it is a good thing. My doctor did tell me that it may be good for me to come in the afternoon for my next fill because the band is tighter for me in the morning. Talk to your doctor. I am sure that he will give you some good suggestions, but as far as weight loss you seem to be on track. I wish you continued success.

    Good Books on Lap Band

I found a book called recipes for Life After Weight Loss Surgery by Margaret Furtado and Lynette Schultz. One thing that I liked was the mashed califlower. I actually did a vlog about it on youtube. the book also has a lot of other good recipes and it tells you how many weeks post op you should be before trying each recipe. You can find the book on Amazon.
  14. I went through the exact same thing!!! I researched it for about a year and a half and after yo yo dieting and taking the pills I gave it a shot. It is the best thing that I have done for my weight loss. You definitely have to do what is right for you. If you get the channel look at my journey on you tube. My screen name is 2livesmart. I actually have a video talking about whether or not getting the lap band surgery is another weight loss fad. Also, find a local support group and connect with others that have the band. It will definitely help. If you have questions please do not hesitate to ask. I had and still have plenty. I have only been banded for 5 months. Good luck on your journey. I wish you all the best!
  15. No I didn't experience those symptoms. At first I thought that you might be dehydrated but it could be something more. I am sure that your doctor will shed more light on whats going on. Keep me posted and good luck on your journey.

just needing and wanting to vent

I just wanted to tell you to hang in there. Trouble does not last always. Your children know the truth and karma is very real. Stay prayerful. I wish you the best. PS. Feel free to vent anytime:rolleyes2:

    A Few Urgent Questions???

I think you will feel fine but I will have to agree with everyone else, you will be on a post op diet so that may be a little difficult. Also, i was told not to submerge in water (i.e. baths, pools etc.) for 3- 4 weeks post op. Started my pre op on Christmas Eve so it is possible. Just weigh your options and talk to your doctor about it. Good luck!

    Nervous...

I was nervous too but it really isn't bad. Just make sure you follow the preop diet and make sure that you have enough broth, liquids, etc., available post the surgery. Also have gas x and tums available. The gass was the worse for me. Every doctor's diet seems to be a little different so just follow what he/she suggests. Good luck!
  19. Like you, I chose to tell a few close friends and family members. I didn’t want or need ANY negative feedback. However, I knew that I would need support so I found this site along with a local support group. I also started tracking my progress on youtube. There is a big WLS (weight loss surgery) support group there. At this point, I don’t care if people find out. I just will not openly tell people because everyone does not have your best interest in mind. When people ask me how am I losing weight I tell them I am working hard at it. I am eating less and exercising. I also tell some that I am under doctor’s care and supervision. It works for me. Good luck on your journey!

    Steak, vommitting question

The same thing happened to me with ribs. The first night everything went fine. The next day I tried to eat the left overs around lunchtime and it did not go down well. it was stuck in my chest. My doctor said that my band is prbably tighter during the earlier part of the day.
  21. Don't get discouraged. The recovery time is different for everyone. I was the first to have my surgery and the last patient to leave. I had a bad reaction to the anesthesia. It will get better. Hang in there.

    blog about life post-surgery

I agree. You should be able to drink fluids with ease. Check with your doctor if the discomfort continues. YOur band may be too tight. I think that starting a blog is great! I actually vlog my journey on youtube. It has definitely helped to keep me focused. If you have a moment check it out. My youtube name is 2livesmart. Good luck on your journey!!!
  23. I love EAS shakes. You can also try Whey protein powder. It may contain less sugar. Also Carnation Breakfast Drinks (No sugar added). Good luck.

    Weight Watchers and the Band

I use some of weight watchers techniques now. See how many pints weight watchers says that you can have at your weight in comparision to what your dietition is telling you. 12-16 points does seem low but you will not probably mot need the points alotted by weight watchers either. Using WW techniques just seem to keep me on track. Good luck!

    Desparate and Scared

Don't worry. Everyone is different. I have had 3 fills and I can eat more somedays than I can others. You are on track. I was stuck in a holding pattern fro 3 weeks. It happens. Please don't get discouraged. You will start to lose weight. It takes time. My weight loss is slow (about a pound a week). I am totaling 24 pounds now but it is steadily declining Have you began exercising yet? I am sure that will help. You are on your way. Keep me posted on your progress.
