Late revision surgery question
Missiecraig32 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
No better place to ask than to ask those that know. I had the lapband for 8 years. It had to be removed by emergency surgery 4 years ago due to my stomach coming up and over the band. When they removed it the doctor said I had extensive scar tissue from where the band was. I can definitely say that the scar tissue is still there and that it sometimes feels like I even still have the lapband when I don't. I am thinking about possibly getting the sleeve and tried researching only to come up with nothing. I spoke to a nurse who told me a horrifying story about a 30 year old who had revision surgery later on after her last surgery and died on the table. Is it too late to get another surgery seeing how I am 4 years out from my band being removed? What do they do with all the scar tissue around where the band was? Is it too risky to mess with it or should I do it? The reason I am asking here is that the people I have spoken to make it out like the doctors will just do surgery on anybody for the money and I want real opinions from people who have been here or what they were told. -

Just so everyone knows that I am not bashing the band. I was in a TV commerical for my dr and was choosen out of thousands upon thousamds that he has done the surgery on and have been asked to do numorious seminars to promote it. I was very successful with it and I got on the scale yesterday and have lost 10 pds again and am down to 200pds. I am merely stating how important it is that people get the correct surgery for them b/c I know a lot of people who have the lapband and are very disappointed and are still severally obese. -
I just had a baby 3 months ago and also had my banded tightened 2 months ago. I have a soreness and building pressure in my upper part of my stomach. Not sure if it's my actual stomach or my belly. Since it has been so long since I had my band tightened not sure if it is the socalled "gas" or air that you have in your stomach or something that is going on bc I had a baby. I called my dr. and he didnt really give me an exact answer. Can anyone describe what kind of pains you get from the air in your stomach with the band tightened? I remember them telling me to take those chewable gas X pills after I first had the suregery.:help:

Band issues...I think??

The band worked fine for me...I was down to a size four but I did it, NOT the band. I wanted to lose weight so I chose not to eat certain things but I still wanted them. I went through lots of testing and I also visited the nuitrionist once a week. The nuitrionist, psychologist, and my lapband dr. never once told me that I would stop craving sugar. In fact they always tell you that weight loss is ultimately your fight and decision. A pastic band in your stomach has absolutely no control over what you emotional think or crave. It's a plastic band that can contain the amount of food you eat by restricting it. Gastric bypass restricts the amount of food and punishes you violently when you make the wrong food choice to the point you dont want to eat the wrong food choice b/c of the consquences. Thats why my point is that if you have no self control then its going to be harder with the band then bypass to lose weight. So good luck to you and I hope that you have made the right choice! -

LMAO! IS that b/c you have self control or b/c of your band. B/c I can eat a whole large blizzard with my band tightened so once again it takes self control. -

I was never obese b/c I ate sugar or junk....just ate alot of everything. I liked the taste of food...eat too much steak at dinner....chicken...too much veggies...too much of everything! If you eat a lot of sugar I would not get the band...you can eat as much sugar as you want with the band. Very easy to cheat. Ice cream is easier to eat then meat. I would get gastric bypass if you have problems with your weight due to what you eat and not how much. The band only restricts you from overeating. Common misconception. You will not automatically lose weight with the lapband. Gastric bypass you have to obey the diet. People without any self control should not get the lapband. The band helps with the appetite and feeling full which makes it easier to not want to eat and eat. -

I became anemic after I had surgery. Are you overweight now?? Usually people that are obese are not anemic. It means you are not getting enough iron. I went on a rampage to lose weight when I first got my surgery and didnt eat enough. It means you arnt eating enough meats. <- primary source of iron. Really weird that you are overweight and thinking of getting lapband if you are anemic b/c usually all obese people are getting enough nuitriants lol..more then enough. I would ask your dr. what's going on with you before you even get this surgery cuz if you are anemic now who knows what can happen to you after you get the surgery. -
I had the lap band 2 years ago. I lost over 80 pounds in the first 8 months. I got pregnant last july and gained all of my weight back minus 25 pounds. This is an emotional strain because I was thin and felt so good about myself before I got pregnant. In march I had a beautiful and healthy baby girl, but am having some trouble getting back on track. I find myself extremely frustrated and almost depressed. To go from wearing a size 6 to a 14-16 in my Lane Bryant clothes is really hard. I am lucky to have a really supportive husband who claims that he thinks I am sexy even when I am large. For myself, I feel disgusting and can't believe I have gone back to square one. I don't feel attractive or sexual at ALL! I try and stick to the diet but I end up hungry and end up saying I dont care b/c I am already huge. My band has been tightened but we all know we can cheat by eating soft sugary foods like ice cream, cake, and cookies. Anyone out there that has been in my situation? :help:

At Least you didn't lose all of your weight and then get pregnant like me!! -
I have had my band for almost 2 years now...I know....kinda sucks I got skinny and now I am prego!! But hey after the kid is born I can just get it tightened again! I have had all the fluid out of my band taken out. I was wondering if anyone else here has been prego with the band if your port hurts? I feel sharp pains every now and then with my port and then it is sore for most of the day. I know it is attached to your side and that getting a big round hard belly might cause issues. I am concerned that it might tear. Anyone experience this?

Does Lap-Band help with emotional eating?
Missiecraig32 replied to SarahinTyler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lol...you will over eat and it wont be pleasant that is what detours you from emotionally eating. Plus once you start losing weight you feel better about yourself and not want to stomp on your success...at least that is what happened with me. Everyone has set backs though....but hey at least your taking a step to finally REALLY do something about it! -
My name is Missie Fisher and I have had the lapband for a year and a half. I have been suffering for the last week from severe stomach pain and mid-central back pain. I have spent 2500 bucks in the last week on internal EDG tests and exrays, etc etc etc. They can find nothing but minor irritation. I know its from the band b/c this pain worsens when eating or drinking. They say that it might be acid reflux....if anyone has had acid reflux due to the band please let me know how long after taking the medications did the pain subside. I have been crying all day and night and I dont know what to do...I almost want to have it taken out.:help:
-
Dont they give you something to blow into to get the air out?? I still have mine it's a plastic contraption that you blow really hard into every hour and it measures how much you blew into it.
-
Take lots of pain pills!!! haha...it's gunna hurt til your tummy chills out! You stomach is probably just swollen due to the fact they put the band in...some people's stomach's are more sensitive then others.
-
Me too...I am 170 and I usually go back to 180 and then lose it and then gain it...etc etc...but I am really just trying to get there and be done with it. Will it get better once we take out the band or will it be this way even after it's out? That's what I have been wondering this whole time. Along with the feeling hot and burping all the time...anyone have nausea too??
-
I think this is just the consequences for having a foreign object in our body. Sorry you are hurting! I've been there too! Just drink liquids....that's what helped me! Not to eat for a week and now I can eat normally. You might want to get your band loosened too...I got all the fluid out of mine...helps it calm down.

Well...I found out what was wrong with me....my band moved and b/c my GI doctor was telling me to try and eat banna's it was causing more irritation thus the horrible pain..I have been on liquids for about 5 days now and it has been bareable...I am taking two different kinds of stomach cramping pills...should be good as new shortly. Thanks for all of your help!!!

no the endoscope was done on thursday and the gi doctor just said that sometime next week the test results will be back. I know I am not crazy...I just dont know what to do...I am running out of money non the less and this is really pissing me off...I mean what can I do...I just want them to take the band out...it really has just come to that...but once again my lapband doctor, who has left no one in charge while he is away, wont be back until thursday.

I went to the emergency room last night by ambulance....I was crying and screaming the pain was so bad. There at the ER I was then told that they look for 7 major problems with stomach pain and if I dont have those problems they basically dont care. I called my GI doctor and he says that this is in my head that he has never seen someone with H Pylori in so much pain...that people with H Pylori are never in pain. He hasnt gotten the test results back from my scoping and doesnt even know what I have, but thinks that I dont have H Pylori. I feel like no one knows what is wrong with me and I wish that someone did...
-
No he hasnt had another doctor on-call...there is nothing wrong with my heart...they have checked that..my stomach and back just hurt really bad...They wont give me pain medication...I dont know why...

EGD was preformed by a GI doctor and he said that my stomach only showed irritation. I had a cat scan for a pulmanary embelism and nothing. Gall bladder is fine, had an ultra-sound done. At the surgery center did the barium swallow and had exrays done. I just feel so helpless...I feel like my stomach is being ripped to shreads and someone is stabbing me in the back...This pain has been plagueing me since monday!!!
