back to square one - band slip fixed - back on liquids
Halobabe replied to skinnymom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Whatever you do, make sure he doesn't give you a 14cc. band! The same thing happend to me and a diff Dr. replaced my 10cc.band with a 14cc. one---It is totally full, but I have no restriction or satiety. I'm gaining all my weight back---very depressing to think I spent all that money and time for nothing. -
Large AP Lap Band and lack of success?
Halobabe replied to jtreece's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 14 cc band with 13 cc's in it---still no restriction, and now last week I was refused another fill? How many cc's does the tubing hold??? I thought I was supposed to feel full? Back to dieting just like before the band...;0( -
I have a 14cc band and doc now says I have 13cc's in there. I can pretty much eat as much as I want and still don't feel very full. I was refused a fill last week, so is this it? Is there anyone that has more than 13cc's in their 14cc. band? I know the tubing takes up several cc's too doesn't it?

Ended up that insurance paid for my revision, thank God, done in Feb. All healed up but NO RESTRICTION at all yet. Eating everything while I can b/c went so long not able to eat hardly anything. Not eating a lot, just things I couldn't before, like MEAT and rice and bread...gained about 10lbs...Going in for 2nd fill today...hoping it will give me some restriction. Got the new Allergan LAP-BAND AP---the large one---holds 14cc. only got 3cc. 1st fill which did nothing. It's hard to be hungry again ALL THE TIME-which is why I got it in the first place.

back to square one - band slip fixed - back on liquids
Halobabe replied to skinnymom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a slipped band but didn't know it was slipped. Sometimes about 1/2 hour after I eat I feel stomach pain and am miserable for about an 1 to 1 1/2 hours. I have been told it's not an emergency, and doc is checking to see if insurance will help pay for anything. I was self pay and don't have it right now.---Bummed out! -
Mine has slipped also, but it wasn't causing problems, so we are checking into my insurance to see if they will pay anything. I was self pay. I am starting to have stomach pain, and was wondering what kind of pain were you experiencing?
-
Well I went to the doc Saturday, 1/10/08 and my band has slipped! I was told I have to have another surgery to either take it out or have it replaced! GREAT! I am a self pay! $10,000 bucks to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico for 2 1/2 years of weightloss is a pretty hefty price! I originally lost 67 lbs but am still at a healthy 50 lb loss, but was not feeling satiated so I went in for a fill. They did a flouro and my stomach is SO pooched out above my band! The barium didn't even go through the band just sat there in my upper stomach. I've not been sick though, which is good, and also which means it's not an emergency. Thank God. I don't want to get fat again!!! I was wearing size 22's and am now in 14's!!! This stinks!

Gonna break down and get an UNfill...
Halobabe replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I did it. I decided I couldn't keep living like this. I went to my bariatric doc and they did a barium swallow and saw that my band had "tilted" whatever THAT means. I don't know if that is a fancy word for slipped or not. Anyway, they said I HAD to have a complete unfill! Of course, I was upset because I'm thinking $150 for each re-fill!!! But it had to be done. I immediately felt SO MUCH BETTER! I don't have ANY GERD---which was keeping me up at night---AND I can eat anything---which I was not able to---without getting stuck. I am being good and not over eating, but I must admit, I did eat a chili-cheese hotdog for dinner on day 2!!! It tasted SO wonderful!!! And so far nothing has gotten stuck! I haven't eaten soup since!!! Yea! I am going to do my best to not gain, and am supposed to go back to the doc in a month. I'm really not taking advantage, but am excited to be able to actually eat healthy like I'm supposed to on the band! I went to a buffet with the family for fathers day and ate a lot of salad, and actually ate meat! whoo-hoo! Life is good. Unfills are good! I must admit, I AM hungrier than usual, but I definitely needed an unfill and recommend it for any who are having severe GERD and food sticking problems. -
Gonna break down and get an UNfill...

Cincinnati, Ohio--- Dr. Curry and it's $150 a visit...out of pocket. I had gained 10 lbs because like you, I was eating a lot of junk food, because it sure slides right down! ;0( Pasta kills me, rice kills me, bread of any kind is off limits, even crackers hurt. I've quit the junky stuff though, been doing some slim fast and have lost 3 lbs in 2 weeks though. I exercise 5 days a week but haven't lost weight (until recently) in 6 mos. I'm down to 163 now...but have been down to 158 I'm scared to death of gaining weight back if I get an unfill. -

I have been having a terrible time...I haven't been able to eat meat in almost a year. My GERD is constant. I practically live on liquids. I ate one deviled egg yesterday and had the fist in my chest feeling for 3 hours until I was able to throw it up. I don't have the money to keep going in for unfills and fills. I had one unfill 6 mos. ago but it didn't really change anything. I can eat a big bowl of cereal at one sitting, which makes me think my "pouch" isn't small enough anymore. Any ideas? I can't eat much of anything, AND I've quit losing. -
You look great! How did you know when your band slipped?
-
I just found out I had gallstones too. I've been suffering for almost a year now. The pain was in the front of my stomach and I also suffered back spasms on the back side of my stomach in my back...too wierd. Going to a surgeon on Monday March 10th. I can't imagine living in another country with socialized medicine and having to wait that long for care! I can't believe the US is even thinking of doing that! Ugh! Scary!
-
You'll do great! My biggest surprise is how slowly I lost it. I was a "turtle" but after 1 1/2 years I went from size 22 to size 10's now! It's a long journey but well worth it! Just remember, one day at a time.:rolleyes2:

I was banded July 06 and have lost 60 lbs. From size 20 jeans to size 10's!!! Yea!!! I'm overall happy with the band, but it's not going as planned. I can't eat solid foods, they don't seem to get stuck, but my stomach starts hurting and I end up having to vomit it up. I eat really small bites and chew, chew, chew, (most of the time, lol) but it still is a problem. I was put in the hospital a year ago after a severe vomiting episode and my back was "killing" me! Doc thought I might have a blocked intestine, but everything checked out---so then he thought it might have been partially blocked, but resolved itself---well, ever since then I keep having that same stomach pain unless I eat really bland and soup like foods. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem??? Of course, my reg doc thinks its the band but my band doc thinks its unreleated...I've had two unfills and AM hungry, plus I've had an EGD and everything looked okay. Both my Mom and Dad had all kinds of stomach problems so I'm thinking I just am getting old...49 in April...LOL Has anyone else had anything similar to this happen? Just wondering.

Hey, it's been a while but I have just about done it! I am down to 166!!! I am not considered obese anymore, just overweight! Yea!!! I bought my first size 12 pants in 15 years!!! That was awesome. I seem to be at a standstill right now, but even if I never lose another lb. that will be okay. I have had some gastro intestinal problems, but I don't know if they are from getting banded or if I would have had them anyway? My worst problem is things getting stuck! I have had two unfills but it is still happening even though I have lost quite a bit of my "full" feeling. Yes, I chew, chew, chew, but unless I live off of soup type food, it is making my stomach hurt and I pb for hours. Don't get me wrong, it's still better than being obese, but is this normal? Last night I ate some stir fry, and put it in a blender and it still got stuck. I pb'd for 2 hours! Tried to eat some ice cream thinking it would sooth my stomach and immediately pb'd it up too. It's so aggravating!

Weird symptoms of being to tight?
Halobabe replied to Becky Lambert's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been having mid back pain all weekend, too. I was banded 9 mos. ago and haven't had a problem until now. I think I had a stomach virus and vomited several times, and now I know I'm swollen, but am having a hard time even drinking liquids and staying hydrated. The acid reflux is terrible. I'm going to see Dr. C. tomorrow! I hope we can get this figured out! I hope insurance will pay for most of it! I was a self pay for the band, but am hoping insurance will pay for all this extra stuff! I am miserable. -
Ok I need some input here people!!! I worked out pretty hard with a new aerobics instructor on Wed, but ate normally Wed night and lunch on Thurs. Then, around lunch time on Thurs my mid back started killing me...then after work, I was feelilng thirsty, and drank some juice, and it felt like it was getting backed up! Then my husband took me out to eat and Sonnys barbeque that evening, and I ate 3 bites of a barbeque rib and 2 bites each of potato salad and baked beans and then did the ol' pb routine---which rarely happens when I eat meat about once a week.(yes, I chewed really well!!!) but after the pbing I still felt nauseaous! I ended up throwing up but it didn't end there! Nothing like this has ever happened before. It takes a LOT to make me throw up...(I only threw up once with each of my 3 pregnancies) I ended up throwing up all night, until midnight! And my back was spasm-ing and killing me---I can't decide which was worse my back or my stomach hurting from the nausea....I finally quit throwing up around midnight and haven't since. (yes there has been a stomach virus going around) I missed work on Friday, and felt very weak all day Friday---now all weekend. I find it hard to drink even water---it feels like it is pooling up then finally bubbling through---but I have had a sore throat/burning feeling now, when I tried to drink some lemon flavored fitness water. I purreed some split pea soup and it was a thick liquid. It tasted so good, I was sooooo hungry. It DID go down but I could feel it going through my band...and it hurt like heck! I managed to get about 1/2 cup down. I am trying to get the swelling down by doing the liquid only thing, but this sucks. My doc is 2 hours away, and I didn't feel up to the drive on Friday. I will go see him on Monday if it's not any better. Has anyone else had back pain associated with eating? I really was doing fine before this only losing about 2 lbs a month, so I really don't think my band was too full, but I do think my body has been changing and perhaps making it tighter??? I think hormonal changes at different times of the month make it tighter. Talk to me people!!!

My back pain is in the middle of my back. Terrible spasms that start within a minute after I start eating. I am really worried...I had a stomach virus and vomited up a storm on Thursday, and have been having these spasms ever since. I thought it was because I'd overexerted my back at an aerobics class on Wed. but now I don't know. I'm on a liquid diet and even drinking water starts the spasms...has anyone ever had anything like this? I'm wondering if my band has slipped??? I can't seem to find many symptoms of slippage on here!!!! Help!!!
-
I'm in!!! Banded July 06 and only lost 20lbs...8 in the first week! I can't remember the last time the scale said I'd lost any! I'm hypothyroid and am working out, so hopefully it's all muscle (that's what I keep telling myself, LOL)

Do you think Celebs & other famous people have Lapband surgery?
Halobabe replied to JLB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I LOVE Oprah too, but I really feel she's had something done...and I don't blame her one bit...I wish I had her money, I'd do it all!!! ;0) -
I"m having sticking problems too! It only happens some times though. I think it's when I'm feeling kind of swollen anyways...ie:hormonal girl problems...and I guess more than just my rings on my fingers get swelled up! I was sick for 2 hours tonight...but finally got some tomato soup down---slowly!
-
I know I'm probably the only one here who was young and foolish in her younger years....but remember your first (& hopefully your last) bad drunk? You know, the hugging the toilet drunk? Well, that happened to me on Vodka at age 21---I am 47 years old and even the thought of vodka makes me wince! Well, my first PB was on a bagle---I felt terrible---it reminded me of getting sick on that stupid vodka! I used to LOVE Bagels---not any more! I have found that if I get a PB or vomit on something THAT'S IT for me! No more! It ain't worth it! It's hard to slow down---my worst problem is remembering to chew extra well and eat slowwwwwly! Getting sick on a food definitely gives me an adversion to it. I guess it's like a survival technique?

What does your "normal" diet consist of?
Halobabe replied to threebeauties's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
banded for 3.5 mos. restriction for only 1 month. Before restriction I could eat anything like before...but I felt fuller faster. After last fill (9.5cc. in a 10cc. band) I have to watch it. Breakfast: oatmeal Lunch: 1 cup shrimp chow mein---slowly, and chewing all the while! snack: 3 Peanut Butter crackers chew chew chew or will get stuck dinner: (need to go to the grocery) so we had 2 fried eggs and I had 2 pcs bacon & got filled up (had biscuits for everyone else---I cannot eat them) evening snack (this is when I get most hungry) 1/2 cup (prepackaged) ice cream (you know the ones packaged 10 in a bag of vanilla with choc or strawberry) then I drink about 2 glasses of sugar free artific sweetened decaf iced tea, but only tap Water, don't like very cold things now. maybe have 2-3 hershey kisses around 10pm...go to bed around midnight. -
Had mine put in on Tues flew back (8 hr flight) on friday & went back to work that next Monday...I felt shaky...but since I have a sit down job, it was okay...let us know how it went for you!

Hang in there Kryssa---think positive!!! I know it really stinks not being able to eat normally now, but we spent a lot of money for this but it's only a tool!!! I expected to lose weight so much faster!!! I wanted to be down at least 30 pounds by now...that would have only been 1 1/2 lbs per week, but I didn't get any restriction until just a month ago, and it's just now starting! My problem is I can eat whatever for about 10 minutes, then BOOM! I start getting the hiccups and feel terrible...I know it's because I am eating too fast...I am trying to change bad habits, but it's hard. I have to be conscious of it all the time and it takes time. You may try eating more protein---I find that helps. I can't eat any bread---it tries to get stuck, no matter how small a bite I take. Maybe something like scrambled eggs would help you, but remember to chew, chew and chew some more and eat slowly. A growling stomach sucks---I drink, drink, drink either tap water or sf artificially sweetened decaf tea and that gets me through it. I wish you the best. We can do this!!! Slowly but surely!!! GOOD LUCK!!! KEEP US POSTED!!
