OMG...I am sorry that I have not updated my status in some time...I have officially been out of the loop! I have kept up with my exercise and as of yesterday I have logged 42.3 miles on the elliptical! I am so glad to have this challenge to keep me "straight" and on target! I even went so far as to recommend it to some of the clients in the practice that preformed my surgery. I will keep plugging away on the elliptical and hope to get to 60 miles this month!

I finished yesterday....50.5 miles! Feels so good to meet a goal, it is the first i set for myself since my surgery on July 1st! I am so proud that I made it, especially because I didnt start the challenge until the 10th of July (when I was released by my dr to exercise)! SOOOO Looking forward to the August challenge!! Congratulations to all who made it to GOAL...and congrats to all who tried their hardest!

Saturday I hit 42 miles...only eight more to go! This challenge has been so good for me...I am going to stick to it next month too!

I know we are already well into the month of July, but I just found this tread today and would really like to join the challenge. I am 9 days post-op and was cleared by my dr. yesterday to begin exercise. I think I think I remember where my treadmill is...and I have got a huge dust cloth ready to wipe it down, LOL! Can I still join?

My dr. requires a one week liquid diet consisting of 2-3 protien shakes per day, 100% fruit juice, broth, sf popsicles, sf jello, low fat cream soups (strained) and vegetable juice. The reason for this diet is to shrink the liver in order to give the dr. better/safer access to the stomach. I have already done the liquid diet once as my surgery was scheduled 6/17/09 and had to be rescheduled due to low potassium. I will begin liquids again on 6/24 in preparation for July 1, 2009 surgery...I hope the second time goes as smoothly as the first time, with a better outcome of course :blushing: Keeping my fingers crossed that potassium will be in check for surgery!

I was scheduled to have my surgery yesterday (6/17/09) and it had to be postponed  due to lab results indicating low potassium. I had blood work on monday morning and my dr. called me on tues. afternoon to let me know that there was a concern with the ressults, but he thought it was just a lab error. When I arrived at the hospital yesterdy for my surgery, they took more blood to double check my potassium...sure enough it was not a lab error...I had to turn around and go home. I can't begin to explain how disappointed i was. My dr. explained that he thought the low potassium was due to a combination of my blood pressure medication and the required one week liquid diet. He told me to stop the BP med (which he prescribed) eat regular for a week and then back to liquids the following week with surgery rescheduled for July 1. Anyone else have a problem with low potassium? I am going to try to bring it back up by eating a banana every day and hope that it works?!?!?! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I cannot imagine getting all the way to the hospital and preped for surgery only to be sent home AGAIN, i will just cry!

You know, I was kind of wondering why my dr. did not suggest putting me on a potassium supplement...I am assuming he is expecting to clear up the problem by taking me off of my bp meds...I hope that is enough..and my daily banana and orange juice during my liquid diet...thanks for all of your advice! Keep your fingers crossed for me on July 1st!

HI Jenny, thank you so much for the food suggestions to help with my potassium...I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will get back to normal in time to have my surgery on july 1st. I am a bit worried that the liquid diet will bring it down again but i guess the dr. doesn't think it will be so bad as long as i am not taking my bp med. I will let you know how things go. Thanks so much for your post! Jessica

I decided in May to look into the LapBand proceedure after years of unhappy and unsuccessful efforts to lose weight. Right away I found out that my insurance covered the proceedure and that there was a Dr. not too far from where I live with an excellent reputation and a great program. After attending the required seminar, I had made my mind up that I wanted to go ahead and have the surgery. I have been so excited since the process started, I can hardly sleep at night! I found out last week that I will be having my surgery on June 17th ...and I have been full steam ahead since! I have been creeping around here for a while now and decided that it is time to introduce myself and hopefully make some new friends!

It has gone so much faster than I ever thought it would...I am so glad that I have not had the bumps in the road like others I have read about...I would go crazy! I cannot imagine having to wait five months...I am like a kid on Christmas Eve....the anticipation is killing me!
