First Consult is Tomorrow!

I found this thread WAYYYYYYYYYY in the back, so I thought I would update everyone and maybe bump it for the newbies to relive my entire experience.... I did have my surgery on 4/26 as scheduled I am now 2.5 month out and have had 2 fills. Up until fill number two I have no to very little restriction and in laymans terms......... Prior to banding I could eat 4 plates at a buffet, after fill number #1 I could eat 1 full plate, since fill number #2 I am happy to report that I get very full very fast and maybe eat 1/2 plate or less. I have joined a gym and started exercising and since fill #2 I have been trying to make better choices.. cutting back on the crap. Also for anyone just starting out. Realize that you don't need to go on a "farewell to food tour" like I did. You will have plenty of time to eat those things you love because you will have a bit of a wait for the coveted restriction. (unless you are one of the lucky ones) For the last month I have been bouncing between 241 and 250. I've had vacations and family functions that I ate very badly on and I actually even went up a pound from fill 1 to fill 2. That has since stopped and this morning I am back at my signature low. It is so true what they say... YOU HAVE TO WORK WITH YOUR BAND! but the good thing is... you will never be able to PHYSICALLY lose yourself to a large pizza again....... if you overstuff.. it will come right back up and it is painful. I hope everyone who reads this has a great day! -

Judy: that is one cool bike.... I've never seen anything like it... can you post a link Janie: HOLY SMOKES your weight loss is simply amazing! Terry: Glad you and DH had a night out. TracyK: Small unfill.. I would definately say... you must be one of those lucky ones (like Jenn) that has natural restriction... because here I am at 2.75cc and although restricted I can eat. Speaking of my restriction... tomorrow is one week since fill number 2 and I'm happy to say that I still have quick fullness. I marinated boneless chicken breasts overnight and baked them on foil in the oven for dinner and they were so most and delish! I am really really really hoping the scale is nice to me tomorrow paying me back for being good....... I will admit though both yesterday and today (early afternoon) I have indulged in a dt. dr pepper float... (homeade, in a small glass) but this is nothing compared to the crap I have been eating... this last fill has really cut down on the AMOUNT of everything I eat and that in itself has got to help... RIGHT ............ gnight! -
Good Luck RMB! There will be a lobby full of people and all of them are either getting a consult or a fill! (or supporting a loved one) p.s. my fill #2 is really working! I have the "small" band and am filled to 2.75cc right now. I KNOW I will be hitting the 230's this week.

In a perfect world that idea is great........... I mean.. heck before I got divorced I had no idea that sex could last longer than 3 minutes! (I cried the first time it did because I thought I had done something wrong)

x-ray chic: the nurse who is recommending RNY is obviously not that educated on the WLS subject. She is human and not the authority. I HOWLED and I mean HOWLED at my docs office for my first fill... I flat out told him that I had eaten half a of a large pizza the friday before and that I needed a FILL.... so he gave me 1.5cc on my first go round. I had a little bit of restriction for about a week and then it was back down again. I just had my 2nd fill and he gave me 1.25cc's (my band holds 4cc) I am just NOW with 2.75 cc's in my band actually feeling what others have talked about..... This is how I gauged it: pre-band I could eat 4 plates of food at a buffet, after fill #1 I could eat 1 full plate. TODAY I am eating 1/2 plate or less... I am really hoping for a loss this week. I am ready to lose, so I am making better choices as well.

The pressue is definately eating too fast... (I am a speed eater, and I feel it often) it is all about slowing down and savoring the food. As for eating too slow.. don't worry about it. they will wait and may even slow down a bit too... it could be a good thing for everyone!

Do you keep getting your band adjusted foreve
TracyinKS replied to JodyG's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
my guess it that you will continue to get tweeker fills when you need it, because 1 the Fluid may back up into the tubing allowing for more than 4cc's of fluid. 2 the fat around your stomach will continue to disappear making the band loser. and 3 in the even that you "lose" some of your fill you would need replacement. time will tell as everyone has their own journey and experiences. -
good question... I have no idea. My guess is that the answer would be no since it costs more than saline.

MS_Jen: WOW 5 lbs! AWESOME BLOSSOM! I attacked a flower bed in the front of my house this morning it had become ebarassingly overgrown with weeds and the worst "glory vines" my grandma used to call them... PAIN in the ASS is what I call them... anyway... I transplanted some stuff I wanted to save, then weed whacked everything down, sprayed some GROUND CLEAR on it and then dumped 10 bags of mulch and then resprayed it....... I replaced my little bench and frog and with the work I did yesterday I am very happy with the front now............. I also moved some vinca vine around the newly planted hosta's and then I just sat back and enjoyed the fruits of my labor....... Fill is still holding steady! 230's this week!!!!!!!!!!!! I can feel it. -
Lapband Vs. Hunger
TracyinKS replied to justwant2lose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to be honest and say that I finally hit a level of restriction with my last fill.......... I had some restriction prior but nothing like I have right now....... 4 plates at a buffet to 1 now maybe a half plate or less. The hard thing is... you WANT the food... You are full very quick and even though your gut is saying stop... that tastebud in the back of your mouth is saying MORE, MORE, MORE! if you comply with the taste bud... you regret it almost instantly. The food will come right back up or get stuck until it disolves....... I am still new so take the advise of the veterans.... they say that you get used to it and I believe them. It only takes eating the wrong thing once (maybe twice) to curb your craving for it.......... stopping on the side of the highway to expell a tortilla gone wrong is NOT pleasant! -
yoga pants (wide band elastic) and a front hook bra... even with the bra my incision between the girls got a little irritated and bled a bit from it, but it would of been far worse had the girls been swinging free! As soon as I was back in the room and fully awake I put my clothes on and started to walk the halls and go to the bathroom draggin my IV bag with me.... everyone seemed suprised but I knew I had to go back to work in a few days so I was walking that gas out aSAP

I stayed over due to insurance requirements, but even if I would of been self pay, I would of opted for it........

1 pill at a time, or switch to liquid... but for the most part you will be fine if you dn't take a handful all at once. -

Do a search of all the boards on this site and look for threads with this issue as the subject...... quickly this was my reason. I have two RL close friends that both had the RNY one is 4 years out and one is 2. Friend that is 4 years PO has gained back almost all of the 120 lbs she lost because she never suffered from the Dumping and could eat anything. She is horrible about taking her vitimins and subsequently suffered a lot of depression mostly due to regaining her weight after all the money and crap she went through......... she is considering getting banded now. Friend 2, has lost over 120lbs and just had a tummy tuck and boob lift and looks awesome. She stays away from the dumping foods and has done extremely well.................. I knew RNY wasn't for me because... 1. I want all my innards to stay intact and there if I need them later in life. 2. Taking 4-6 weeks off work is not an option, with my band I had surgery on Thursday and was back to my desk job on Monday. My boss has no clue as I just took 2 days of PTO and that was it. 3. My issue is portion control, and I want to be able to get a fill 1, 2, 10 years down the line if I see myself being able to eat to much, where as with the RNY you CAN restretch your pouch 4. Insurance paid for it. 5. It can be unfilled in times of medical need or pregnacy 6. Any general surgeon can remove it in an emergency.. vs the bypass which is forever. To answer the weight question... Just do a search for BOO, JulieinNYC, Neal )OUsooner, and many many many others they have lost well over 100 lbs and in some cases over 200 lbs... My doc says average weight loss is 1-3 pounds per week........ so that is 52-150+ in a year........ and in my book that is fast enough Good luck in whatever decision you make. Afterall it is YOUR journey and no one elses.

I would of prefered to have the Doctors Hospital and especially a private room! The lady they put me with was nice but she was having some kind of back issue.... so she ate EVERYTHING.. fruit plates, french toast ... the full service menu and I was stuck with those minty sponges! DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE HARD CANDY! those were my lifesavers......... literally I had a pack of lifesavers! LOL

TracyK: do not hesitate to get an unfill... a lot of problems can come from a band that is too tight.... -
Yep! We had a gal in our support group a couple months ago that had it done, and my friend who is also 4 years out and has regain most her weight back is trying to work it in to their budget.

Good afternoon Violets! Kat: Your continued battle for Kinsey's health brought tears to my eyes.. that poor little baby. I have spent a good part of the day planting all my loot that I got from Walmarts garden center. Everything was marked 50% off so I planted 6 hostas a rose bush and spruced up a pot with some colorful caladium. I had gotten a bunch of glad bulbs free from work. I was a hot sweaty mess so I turned the hose on myself after watering the flowers... The shorts I am wearing are 16's and although I had to wrench them over my belly they feel ok and was an NSV for me. I think my fill is working because I've been eating very little and the scale was nice this morning teetering on 242... I WILL get the the 230's next week dammmmmmit! Monday I go back to the gym and dbf goes to Omaha for work. Hope everyone is having a great day. -

They started doing a liquid pre op diet in March. Depending on your BMI is depenant on how long you follow it. I was on the FAREWELL to food tour for months gaining weight between January and April, so I went on it early to make sure that my liver was in good order.... HOW EXCITING FOR YOUR DATE TO BE SO CLOSE!

WHAT FOODS GETS STUCK or give you problems?
TracyinKS replied to Raven5683's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The way BREAD was explained to me was that the GLUTEN is the problem. Take a piece of bread and wad it up in your fist pour Water on it and watch it get all gummy.... (that is the gluten) the ball of gummy gluten acts like a cork in your band and either you have to wait for it to pass or it has to come back up, which is why toasted bread acts better. My weird problem food is refried Beans.......... why I have NO idea.. it is usually a staple to those newly banded or a good Protein filled mushie... I 've tried them 4 times in three months and each and every time I end up sicker than a dog. Today I had a problem with almonds, but I was eating a handful not paying attention and didn't chew them up well.......... didn't pb but I did get the FLAMING GOLFBALL feeling. Also going back to the RNY discussion... the biggest difference is that the RNY people are not able to absorb nutrients from the food that they eat.. it passes right on through.......... with us we do absorb but it has to be in small enough pieces that it passes through a band... I would take TerriDoodles advice and do a lot of research on the differences. I have two RL best friends that have both had the RNY and I knew it wasn't for ME.
