getting pressured to do bypass over band!
TracyinKS replied to skatkat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Reasons: 1. Keeping all my parts 2. 4 days off work versus 6 weeks 3. Long Term Maint by getting fills and Unfills. 4. Seeing two of my best friends have the bypass both doing great, except the one that is 4 years post op has gained back about 30% of her weight and she does NOT have the option to just get a fill... her pouch is permanently stretched. 5. Reverisible if needed. -
Happy Thursday... be back to edit in a minute... bumping for now

How much did you pay total for pre-op labs, exam & consults?
TracyinKS replied to DooneyJC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This has been my experience so far: Jan 6 - Seminar - Free Jan 8 - Surgeon Consult - $150.00 (used my FSA card) Jan 17 - Psych Eval - $200.00 (FSA card was declined but later reimbursed) Jan 22 - Nutrition Eval - $160.00 (used my FSA card) If you pick a doc that has a package deal, most times the pre-op bloodwork and aftercare is included in the price....... also, HAD I been self pay, I'm not so sure I would had any of the costs listed above because..... the psych and nutr. evals were REQUIRED by my insurance company. -

geesh??? I don't know what to tell you. I know Houston has some good docs, but I they must be so busy, they can turn away patients. I guess I would start by going through my online provider directory from my insurance and just start calling surgeons... (note, my doc is NOT listed as a Bariatric) he is listed under General Surgery in my directory..... surely you will find one... GOOD LUCK
-
That IS VERY HOPEFUL NEWS LD!!!!!!!!! For me ... just waiting on the psych and nutrition letters to be faxed to doc and then for them to fax to bcbs sc, for the claim number........ Keep us posted on YOUR progress!

How are you feeling???? -
congrats on the 68 lbs!!!! I would say that you should not be pb'ng so often.... evaluate what you are doing when it happens..... I am NOT banded yet, but I read this forum like crazy and the overal advice I've seen is that.. a. eating too fast b. eating too big of bites c. eating wrong types of foods d. and if all this is NOT you.. you MAY be too tight, and call your doc. KEEP US POSTED!

DH not 100% with me.
TracyinKS replied to demsvmejm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really liked the ALL the responses, and I just have to add mine... You are doing this FOR YOU.. not him, not his mom, FOR YOU. Unless he has faced the same battles he can not understand.. the self depreciating kick in the pants that happens when a person loses and then regains.. OR starves themselves but then GAINS.... Mainly he is probably worried about YOU and about how it will AFFECT HIM.... Don't second guess your decision, but know that you will be the one with the nail gun in your gut and he will be the one holding the plate of cubed Jello. My guy... doesn't get it at all........... he used to tease me by saying... OK HONEY what color food are we eating today??? He went to the seminar with me and he did learn a lot, but the one thing he seemed to take from it was that the doctor said.......... the only thing you have to give up is white doughy bread........ so he didn't see that HIS life would change. He and I have discussed food a lot since the seminar..... oh and he really can't be concerned with the money aspect because its MY insurance and MY FSA.....not affecting our joint account. -
Mommy202... yes, I have lost 80 lbs 4 times in my adult life... the last 3 were adhering to a strict low carb diet. I have hypo thyroid and PCOS.. so for me the Low Carb is what helped SO MANY things..... but something would happen and I would go off plan and then it would spiral til I was all the way back up and this last time was no exception..... I have thought long and hard about the band, and it took me a year of debating it in my head before I really decided to go for it. I was really ticked off that I just couldn't maintain a loss on my own. So, for ME I view the band as a FORCED committment to a LC way of eating WOE. Protein First, Veggies Second, Carb 3rd....... Yes, I know I will be able to eat around the band, but I KNOW what my body needs.. so I believe I will be fine.. most of my problem is VOLUME, and the band will help with that too..... I am the first person in my Real Life that will have a band. I do have 2 friends that went the bypass route (now 2 and 4 years) post op.. I always knew that surgery wasn't for me.......... Lemme see.... I am 37, divorced in 2002 but with a great guy now going on 2 years... we share a life and kids but not married.. I have a son who is now 3 and the light of my life.. although he is often to smart for his own britches... I think my light bulb moment was at his skating party I could not get up off the floor of the rink without help (I was in skates, and on one knee to tie his laces) I was humiliated and p.o.'d!!!!!!! I want to be the active mom not the "let mommy rest" mom.... so here I am with baited breath (as you said it perfectly) waiting for a surgery date, so that the rest of my life can begin!

Happy Humpday.......... I just updated through in_denial and above.. IF I have missed ANYONE let me know... sometimes I have to sneak over here and I miss things...... My nutritionist emailed me back and said that the letter will be faxed to my doc today! YIPPEE

Sharon: I'm with you... I think I found the link for it at one time.. but I'd have to search again..... oh and it is nice to know that maybe Menorah will have a cancellation that I can sneak in on!!!!!!!!! YIPPEEEEEEEE! GOOD NEWS just happened..... the psychologist CALLED me to say that I was clean and he had his letter ready to fax over, but the intern had to sign off on it too and she wouldn't be in til tomorrow. So TOMORROW my docs office will have his letter and I just emailed the Nutritionist to remind her that it was OK to fax HER letter over (today if possible)......... Getting closer -
