KELLY: here is a huge cyber hug for ya! We all have issues with eating, and I can relate some of your feelings... we are all getting ready to break up with our best friend and worst enemy.. FOOD... gone will be the ability to use it for comfort, stress relief, sadness, happiness, loneliness... no longer will be be able to soak our sorrows in a LARGE pizza, or pint of icecream....... and THAT to me is scarey as hell..... so working out our acknowledgement of our feelings BEFORE surgery is important so that we don't eat around the band and sabotage our efforts.

HELLO TO ALL THE NEWBIES!!!!! I just got this from my docs website (I put it into an email for my close RL peeps who have questions so I thought I'd paste it here too) NOTE: THIS IS MY DOCS Reccomendations! Make sure to follow YOUR docs instructions...

Nutrition ffice:office" />

Ten Important Rules For Patients To Be Aware Of: Eat only when you are hungry. Eat slowly and chew thoroughly (15-20 time a bite) Stop eating as soon as you feel full Do not drink while eating Do not eat between meals Eat only good quality food. Solid food is more important than liquid food. In fact, the LAP-BAND® System will have no effect if you only consume liquid food as it will pass right through. Limit the crunchy, crumbly food ie: crackers, potato chips. Avoid fibrous foods (asparagus, pineapple, rhubarb, broccoli, artichokes, celery), as it may not digest well. Dried fruits are likely to swell and get stuck in the new opening of the stomach. Doughy or Sticky foods like white bread, popcorn, and coconut can also obstruct the LAP-BAND® System. Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water per day Drink only low-calorie or zero-calorie liquids Exercise daily Immediate Diet After Surgery: DAY 1 AND 2: Full liquids only, broth, Jell-O, apple juice, tea, popsicles, milk, coffee, and tomato juice. There are also protein drinks: Ultra Cal Liquid, Isopur and Enlive. Make sure and only take a small amount at a time. To prevent vomiting and nausea, do not drink too much. DAYS 3-14: Continue with full liquids such as creamed soups and yogurt. You can also have clear broth or soup (that has been pureed), low-fat yogurt, Jell-O, and fruit juice or pureed soft fruit. “Anything through a straw”. Pureed or blended foods (for example, baby food, applesauce, yogurt, creamy soups, cooked cream of wheat, farina, cream of rice, pudding). Patients can puree the following foods with skim/soy milk or broth: Vegetables, Meats, or Casseroles. In the first few weeks, you may be able to eat food that may not be allowed in your diet later because these foods may contain too many calories. It is more important in the first few weeks to let your stomach adjust to the LAP-BAND® System than it is to lose weight. In general, you should follow the advice of your dietitian about these foods. Do not eat solid food too soon or you will run the rare risk of complications. After 2 Weeks of After Post-OP Visit: “Sugar Free” products are OK to use now and should be encouraged. You will be eating ½ cup of food at a time or 1 ounce- 1 ½ ounces by the 5th week. Beware: the majority of patients will find it difficult, if not impossible, to eat whole chunks of meat, although ground beef is generally tolerated if well chewed. If you have problems with solid foods and suffer from nausea or vomiting, go back to the liquid diet you had earlier. Then slowly add soft foods to help you transition to solid foods later. Always ask for advice that is specific to your situation from you doctor or dietitian. Chew all your food well. If you have dentures, be sure to cut your food into small pieces and to chew it thoroughly. It is also important at this time to make good food choices.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
TracyinKS replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Morning all... I am back at work... a bit fuzzy headed and out of it, but I'm here! So far I've had black coffee and 1 hb egg.. (I'm trying to cut the creamer from my coffee getting back to basics) I made my pre-op testing appointment with the hospital yesterday and I broke down and told my dad and step mom........ I put it to them like this: I have news, and it is not up for debate, it is for informational purposes only! LOL......... I get every bit of my "hardheadedness" from my dad... and I just didn't want to hear him, but suprisingly they were both excited for me..... My dad is thin, and he never once has gotten on to me about my weight, but he was HELL on my mom..... (they were married for 23 years) anyway........ they have offered to take my son the entire weekend after my surgery! YIPPPEEEEE that will help a lot. -

BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!! Both mother and daughter and handsome big brother! Congrats on making it through a very serious condition. (both of you!) -
TGIF! GREAT TO hear from all you newly banded folks! I have a question: when people post from the hospital.... how are you doing that? Did you take a laptop and hooking into a wireless connection or did the hospital have a pc for anyone to use? Also... did any of you hear about the peanut butter contamination? Well... we had 3 jars of the stuff with labels that read 2111xxxxxxx 1 regular peter pan, 1 sugar free(low carb) peter pan, and 1 big ol jar of Great Value, that we just bought last weekend.... FREAKY! specially since we've been sick... (but both my son and I have sinus type sicknessness)

My life weight story
TracyinKS replied to purplegirl1818's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
WOW!!!! what a story! You definately have the activity level down and I bet you have a lot of lean muscle mass underneath the layers. Just know that your depression meds can make you gain weight. Have you been checked for a low thyroid, and PCOS??? all things that would work against any weight loss effort..... eating a lower carb higher Protein diet (even BEFORE surgery) will help yo to shed pounds... I KNOW.. I gained on both slim fast and WW.. the carbs were just too high for me, and I know that after surgery I will have to eat mainly a low carb diet for me to WORK THE BAND. Good Luck and Keep us posted! -

No Fill Lots Of Restriction!?????
TracyinKS replied to Marissa424's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been told that the amount of fat pads a person has on the stomach could have a lot to with needing fills or not..... Everyone has fat pads in different places and if you are one of the lucky ones that doesn't have any fat pads around your stomach you might not need fills as often as a person who does. (because the fat shrinks and the bands needs a fill) -
