Yes!! And I truly believe this is yet another reason to try to avoid alcohol (at least for me); I tend to pay no heed to the signals of fullness if I have had a cocktail or wine.

My tipping point:
My mom started having weight-related health problems at a young age - late 40's - (she developed high BP, Type2 diabetes, eventually congestive heart failure) and died at age 74. In fact, she was hospitalized for heart issues, and in the same hospital as I was when I was giving birth to my youngest child at age 41! She didn't even live to see my daughter's first birthday.
Anyway, long story short, a year after my mom died, I was 80 pounds overweight and saw myself going down the same exact path. This was all 12 years ago; got a Lapband, lost the weight and just recently got a VSG revision because of a hernia and GERD.
Losing weight has changed me in so many ways, not the least of which is freeing me from my "living to eat" mentality. I still enjoy food but I know at the end of the day, it's just a meal.
All my best to you - it's the start of something wonderful for you!

I did have wine and it does hit you quicker, definitely true. But I didn’t get sick or feel bad from it. I only had one and I really nursed it, over the course of an hour.
I personally think that, aside from alcohol being empty calories, etc., doctors want us to avoid it because of a tendency to make stupid food decisions as a result. When I drink, I absolutely do not pay careful attention to what I am eating or how fast I am eating... -
Would it be possible for you to tell these family members that, going forward, you just don't want to discuss your weight at all? You are the one doing all the work, it's YOUR story, your body.
I figured out a long time ago that in addition to politics, money and religion, WEIGHT and opinions about others' child-rearing were all topics better left alone.
You are doing SO awesome, BTW!!

I was STARVING. My surgeon said it was because liquids can only satiate your hunger for a little while, they don't stay long in your new small stomach, they pass through quickly and then you're back to being hungry again. It got MUCH better for me on purees. And YES, I had to COOK things my family loves and just grab a couple of SF ice pops &
RETREAT!

I also paid out of pocket. Started the process mid-January, had my surgery on 3/17. I found that I needed to really emphasize to my surgeon and his staff that I was paying out of pocket. It took a few times for them to understand that I was not waiting around for Oxford to approve the surgery and that I was good to go as soon as possible (I lucked out and was able to get ALL my pre-op tests done lickety-split -- like all within 2 weeks). GL!!!!

I'm a 3/15/21 VSG!

I was able to have my repair done at the same time as my sleeve but I know the recuperation is VERY SIMILAR to the sleeve: liquids, then puree, soft foods, restrictions on what you should lift, etc.
This all will probably help a great deal if your surgeon requires a pre-op diet before the sleeve because you will definitely drop weight during the recovery. It's a fairly significant surgery - my hernia was a lot larger than my doctor anticipated, and it added a lot more time to my surgery.
But, that being said, you are going to feel SOOOOOO MUCH better after taking care of this!!! I sure do!! GL!!

Best of luck!! You sound like you are in a great place mentally!!

I have never regretted my Lapband, even with some of the bad issues that went with it and I don't regret my recent revision to a sleeve. To be unburdened from a fixation with food, surrendering the concept of food as a comfort, and finally loving my body has been an amazing thing for me.

That's so AWESOME!!!! Feels great, right? You might luck out anyone suspecting because I know for my husband, like a lot of men, if he gives up beer for like, a week, he drops 40 pounds!!! Again, so happy for you!!

I lost about 75 pounds 10 years ago in my 40's and unfortunately did have loose skin I was a mess and I ultimately got a TT and breast lift. But that doesn't mean it will be the same in your case!!!

I had my first vaccination - Moderna - 2 weeks after my VSG. Felt fine aside from a sore arm for a couple of days.

I had mine for 10+ years and I lost about 80 pounds and mainly kept it all off but THE REFLUX after maybe 6.5 years of having it. Ugh. Crazy-bad. And it slipped once, which was just God awful. And I am pretty sure it was the cause of my hiatal hernia, which needed a MAJOR repair.
I also know of several people who had enough of a food addiction that they were easily able to 'out-smart' the band. That being said, I thing until the addiction is addressed for these people, ANY WLS will ultimately end up as a failure...
But, back in 2009, I was unwilling to get a bypass and VSG didn't really seem to be a 'thing' as far as I knew. At least that option was not offered to me.
My surgeon tells me there are a several patients in his practice who absolutely love their band, even when it is giving them the same kind of problems I had with it and will not even consider removing/revision. So...go figure! Whatever works I guess

Boy, I HEAR ya...Same.Exact.Thing. I would've thought that just by eliminating the one beer a night I would have pre-surgery that that in and of itself would've made me drop more weight than this...
Hope you are feeling good even if the scale isn't necessarily reflecting the numbers you (me, too) want...
I am trying to be patient and believe what FindYourFire says - that our body is in a sort of 'fight or flight' mode, holding on to the pounds...
GL, please post when your breakthrough comes - which I know it will!

Band to sleeve
in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)

Had my revision on 3/15/21 and I feel amazing. I had been fairly successful keeping the weight off with the LB (however, I still wanted to lose more weight but wasn’t anywhere near to being as heavy as I had been pre-LB). I also had a horrible hiatal hernia and GERD that was pretty severe. HH was repaired during surgery and have not experienced one episode of reflux since. I am down 30 pounds since surgery. Weight loss has been steady but slower this go-around (very common after revisions, just FYI), but I am 10000000% happy I did the revision!
