Thank you for your reply. Now that you mention it, I am certain that it is gas pains I am experiencing. And I can remember back to the few days that i took a walk, and how remarkably better I felt afterward. You are a godsend. I am looking forward to what lies ahead with this lap band. Thank you so much.

I think one problem I am having is that I am forgetting to take my pain medication. I am not accustomed to taking anything, but I realize when I do, I feel much better. Duh. But please, if any of you have any words of advice, I'd sure appreciate it. It's all so new. This is the first surgery I have ever had. My surgeon, Dr Selim was just great. Anyway, for the most part I am not having any trouble with the 2 weeks of liquid. During weeks 3 and 4 I will be eating "soft mechanical" foods. I am a 51 year old female. I am single, self employed and am also a moonlighting musician (from time to time). I look forward to getting to know you all better. Many of you I feel like I know already as I have been reading the various threads for a couple of months. That said, I am so happy that I have finally gotten the lap band all in place. Mobility and cuteness, here I come! Fran

Newbie from Dallas Texas - ???????

My anesthesiologist talked to me during my pre-op appointment, and also before the surgery on surgery day. I was banded 6 days ago, and the site of my port is the only tender spot. I didn't have Dr B, but I hope this little bit helped. -
I got the lap band surgery on Monday 9-11-06 and it went well. So far I am sore at one of the incisions (the port?) and I do have trouble rolling over in bed without any pain. Just took a stroll around my house and yard for about 20 minutes. I feel better as a result. This is my 4th day on liquids. 10 more days to go. So far, so good.

Has anyone heard of or used Dr Niazy Selim? I heard that he does Lap Band at the KU Medical Center in KCK. I would appreciate any info that anyone may have about him. I am wanting to set a date for Lap Band surgery as soon as possible. He is the only one I can find where both the surgeon AND the hospital facility are in network with United HealthCare. With my particular policy, UHC does not pay any out of network benefits at all. If they did, I would probably use Dr Malley or Dr Lopez. I So far I have not seen any info about Dr Selim. Thanks everyone. Fran

Wish me luck, everyone. I finally have a surgery date with Dr Niazy Selim. I went for pre-op and have been scheduled for Sept 11 surgery. He seemed to be knowledgeable and capable when I spoke to him yesterday. Now I just want to get it over with so that i can start my new life. I can't even imagine how it will be for me, but I am going to do my best, and hope for the best. He said no bread, steak or ice cream for life. I had to ask him for his reasoning on the ice cream. He said it's because a lot of it can be eaten and the band can't regulate it. So I understood it because ice cream is such a high calorie food. He's only requiring that i don't eat after midnight the night before the surgery, but i have been taking it easy for the past couple of weeks because of things i've read on the message boards. I'll check back in after my surgery. Thanks for the encouragement. Fran -

The misspelling is driving me crazy. I meant to say "thanks", not "Thnaks" -

Thank you for your reply. I am going in soon for my pre-op, and was starting to get cold feet since i had only heard of Dr Malley and Dr Lopez in the Kansas City area. I was told that Dr Selim would most likely be doing my surgery. It helps so much to know that your experience with him was a positive one. How long ago were you banded, if I might ask? -
You might have gotten my question already but I am not sure. Were you treated well at Midwest? And what are your impressions of them? I am scheduled to have a consultation there very soon. Thanks.

How were you treated at Midwest? Did the staff treat you well? Are they competent? What are your impressions of that place? Thanks.

is DD a name, or does "my DD" mean something else that I don't know about? Just curious.
-
I went to MWIBS info meeting in January also. Apparently Dr Lopez left that group after that.

dr lopez's number is 913-649-7300 and the nurse's number is 913-647-3997

May I find out what you know also? I posted my question on the board, but it might not be a good idea to post certain things of a sensitive nature. My email address is drcollier@kc.rr.com just in case you feel like going thru it again. I realize you were discussing these things over 6 months ago, so I'll understand if you are no longer in the mood to talk about MWIBS. I went to an informational meeting in january 2006, and am just now taking steps to get the lap band done this summer.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I was a little confused because I went to a MWIBS (Weight Loss Surgical Center) informational meeting back in January 2006, and the card I have with the packet has Dr Lopez's name on it. I have since found out that Dr Lopez is no longer with MWIBS . I am scheduled for a consultation Monday July 3 there. I was going to be referred to a Dr Selim. I think I will cancel until I get more info. I am so glad that i came across this message board! I can't tell you all how grateful I am for your help. I really want the lap band, but I want to be as informed as I can possibly be. So Dr Lopez left? Isn't this the group that Dr Malley left also? Now I am really confused as to where to go. I have United Health Care. My specific policy does not pay any out of network benefits at all, so I am trying to find someone who is in-network, and whose hospital is in-net work also, if at all possible. But I am definitely going to heed the warnings to not go to MWIBS. Can anyone tell me what the problem is with them? Fran

Where was your surgery performed? Have you heard of a Dr Saline or Salinas? I called Dr Lopez's office they mentioned this other doctor. Fran
