    Lapband survey

There is nothing better for someone looking into lapband surgery then to hear from those who have done it. Hope your booklet has lots of inspiration for them! First question: Before having surgery, food was my best friend. I was always looking for something to eat. I was an emotional eater. No matter what mood, I ate. Suffering from depression for years helped get me in the shape I was. Since having surgery, my views of food have totally changed. I am no longer consumed with thoughts of food! Foods that where my favorites before aren't even part of my eating plan and I really don't miss them! Second question: My surgery went smooth; no problems at all! My recovery was great as well. I didn't need any pain medication. The only complication, if you can call it that, that I have experienced is when my band was too full. I wasn't able to get anything down. That, however, is an easy fix. Went to the doc and he removed some of the Fluid and now I'm doing great! Third question: I would tell them there is hope. Morbidly obese people are often times the most mistreated people around. Being overweight is one of the few things that society is ok with discriminating against. I know this because I have been morbidly obese my entire adult life. My heart goes out to these people. I know what it's like. I understand the hurt and the struggles and it is a lonely place to be. I find myself wanting to tell every overweight person about Lapband surgery. It has saved my life! Are there risks, of course, but not like those that you will encounter if you stay obese. Is it worth it? You bet ya! I have not regretted my decision once! Denise M.

Hello and welcome to LBT! Congrats on your weight loss! Sounds like you are doing great!

    Hi from Houston

SpringChicken, I have not had a similar experience but I justed wanted to say I am sorry to hear that you have been having problems with your band. I don't know how you have dealt with that for so long. What does the doc say about it?
  5. Hey lost_secret! Nice to have you join us here at LBT. The liquid diet isn't easy but well worth it. You will make it! Just keep reminding yourself of everything you are gaining by giving up food for a short time. Yes, you will eat real food again but you may be surpried at how lttle it appeals to you. Food was my answer to everything. When I was lonely, I ate; when I was sad, I ate; when I was depressed, I ate and so on. It's definitely a change but keep your eye on the final result. Best of luck to you! As soon as you feel up to it after surgery, let us know how you are doing.

    Denied over 12 pounds!

Stupid insurance! I'm sorry you are having to go through this. I have tried about every diet known to man and the best, hands down, is the meat & egg fast. It takes the weight off fast but it's not the easiest to do but as determined as you are, I'm sure you can do it! The diet in a nutshell is nothing but lean meat and eggs. Nothing fried or breaded. You can have a little mayo and seasonings but try to stay away from things high in carbs like ketchup. Because you are eating high protein and no fiber to speak of, I would add Benefiber. A hard boiled egg mushed up with Miracle Whip on it and Benefiber is good and an easy way to get your fiber in. :hungry: They say Benefiber is tasteless but when added with plain water, I think it's nasty but in other things, I never notice it. Good luck!

    Hello Missouri!

I haven't goten anything stuck for a long time. When my band was too full, everything got stuck. When I am not paying attention to eating and don't chew well, I have a little trouble. It just causes a little pain but nothing bad and doesn't last too long. The scale moving is a great motivator for me as well. Sometimes it so hard to believe though!

    Hello Missouri!

cvaden--He had the same problem with me. The first time, he found the port no problem but that's not so for the second fill. He tried with a short needle and then a long needle to no avail. He felt bad but it didn't bother me one bit. Funny how different it is for us. Anyway, he did that fill with fluro under the x-ray. That got me to 2 cc in my 4 cc band and I was too tight. I tried to tough it out but ended up going in and he removed .5 cc in his office. No problem finding the port that time. The next time I went to see him, I was experiencing hunger again so we decided to put that .5 cc back in that he had removed but again, he had problems finding my port. He said usually after he locates it once, he can find it again. He said it's unusual for him to have the problem twice. I guess if he has problems finding it more than once it's better to be on me since the fills don't bother me at all then on someone else. He did that fill by ultrasound. Last time I went to see him, we decided against a fill because my weight loss was good. I do experience more hunger than I probably should but as long as I can get by on willpower, I will avoid another fill. He said we could look and see if we wanted to do another fill next time I came in. I don't have any foods that I can't eat (just a lot that I choose not to) and I would like to keep it that way. That's why I am ok with my band being a little looser. If my weight loss suffers though, I will get a fill. So far, I am able to do without another one. Sharon--I am certain he will give you another 1 cc fill. I was the same way with my first fill. I felt restriction for a short while but then it was gone and I felt like I could eat a horse. The next one should make a difference in that. Hang in there, Tuesday is almost here!

    Question

Benefiber works great for me. They say it is tasteless but I think it is nasty mixed with plain water, however, mixed with anything else, it's fine.

    November Bandsters!

I do need to take pics. It's so hard for me to see but everyone tells me they can see a huge change. I have always hated getting my picture taken but that should be getting better. :biggrin1: Maybe I can get dh to take them this evening or sometime this weekend. I'll get some taken soon.

Turner--:welldone2:Congrats on the loss! Men are lucky aren't they? They can hardly try and lose weight whereas we have to work our tails off. Thanks for your support!

    Hello Missouri!

Hello cvaden!! I so nice to talk with other Dr. Pitt patients. He is a fantastic doctor; I can't praise him enough! :peace: A 4 hour drive, man! I drive a little over an hour and I thought that was a long drive. :car:In my opinion, he is well worth that. Congrats on your weight loss thus far! You are doing great! I too hope we can keep in touch. It's nice to talk with people from "home".

    Getting Ready for Spring Bootcamp

So true, so true!!! :clap2: Well, the scale this morning finally showed me where I was last week before my bad weekend binge!! WOOHOO!!!! I am now back on track and have 8 lbs. to lose before my 100! I will make it this month! I am working m/e right now and plan to stay on it through Friday and then low carb. How is everyone's morning going? It's a bright, sunny day here. A little cool but as long as the sun is shining, who cares?!?

    Getting Ready for Spring Bootcamp

I'm not overly thrilled with it. I liked it just the way it was but things change. I really don't like the advertisements but I understand that running a board of this caliber has got to be expensive so I don't blame Alex. They are working some bugs out and planning to add some new features so I am just holding out hope the the finished product is better.

    Hello Missouri!

Hey Sharon! How did your appt. go yesterday? Did you get a fill? Between work being busy and taking a little time off, I haven't been on here much lately. Just wondering how everything is going.....
  19. Well, I thought everything was working great but I too am having problems with posting messages and with email notifications....

    Getting Ready for Spring Bootcamp

I take one day off and when I sign on this morning, the board is impossible to use. Thank goodness everything is working well now cause I was having LBT withdrawals! Tann--I am so happy for you!! What a fantastic accomplishment! My dh and I have been together forever. I was 13 and he was 16 so it will be a good long time before I reach the weight I was when we met. I was overweight but not like now. I started back on m/e yesterday and took off 2 lbs. Only 2 more lbs. to get back to where I was. :cheer2: I have really got to be careful to not go overboard on my off days. It's NOT worth it at all! I'm going to have to work my butt off to get to 100 lbs. lost this month! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can......or maybe I should say I KNOW I can, I KNOW I can, I KNOW I can!
  21. Working fine now. Thanks!
  22. I'm still having the same problem. Nothing has changed.
  23. I'm still having the same problems. Nothing has changed.
  24. Ugh! This is a pain. I should just log off and come back later when hopefully, everything will be running smoothly. That won't be easy though because I, like several others, am addicted to LBT. All it's doing right now is irritating me.
  25. Same here. I can't get into any of the forums unless I click on the thread with the last post and even then I can only view that one. How do we get in the forums?
