Thanks everyone. I had an Upper GI and the Endoscope (sorry if I spelled this wrong) which showed the Hiatal Hernia. My doctor said it could be repaired if it isn't too large, and that he wouldn't know that for sure until he got in there. The nurse said it shouldn't be a problem. I just don't want to go into surgery and come out without the band, but I also don't want to have problems with the band if the hernia is too big and will impede the band from working or by giving me more reflux or heartburn (I've had enough of this to last a lifetime). I will probably give him permission to do whatever is necessary to get me on the road to losing weight - band or bypass. I'll also be praying that God guides the doctor and the outcome.:w00t:

Has anyone had a Hiatal Hernia and been banded? How did it go? I went for my pre-op appointment with my surgeon yesterday and he said that if my hiatal hernia was too big he wouldn't put the band in place. He could do one of two things: close me up after repairing the hernia or do a gastric bypass. He said that he wouldn't know until he got in there to see what the hernia looked like. He also said that lapband with hiatal hernias can cause more reflux and other difficulties. I would really like some advise so I know what to do and what to expect. My surgery is scheduled for December 15th. Thank you!

Awesome - I love it too! Best wishes to everyone being banded this week. You are all in my prayers. I just started my liquid pre-op diet. Taking it one day at a time.

Good for you - I hope and pray that every day is easier and better. I will watch for your progress, as my surgery date in a month away. -
OK - Add me to the list of December Bansters. I have been reading and waiting for a long time - since April or May. I finally have a surgery date of 12/15/09. I am a little nervous, but also very excited. It is good to see so many of you out there. I know we can all do this together. I will be praying for you all - especially for those of you who have to stop smoking.

Good for you - Congratulations! I know you can lose that one pound and maybe even more! Enjoy the graduation.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. There is hope. I know that one day at a time and with help from people like you, I can do this.

Hello Brittany, I am new here as well. My name is Sharon and I am 52 as well (not too old imaluckydog). I feel like this is the easy way out and that I am weak for not having enough willpower to do this on my own. But I have lost the same 40 lbs for the last 10-12 years. I don't want to do that anymore. I am 3 months into the 6 month diet that my insurance requires. I have had almost all my pre-op tests and am looking at having surgery the end of August or early September. I don't know exactly how this forum works but try to figure it out. I usually log on every morning and read the posts, but I haven't responded until today. Good luck Brittany and hopefully we will help each other through this process. Sharon
