My Surgeon Hasnt Done Any Lap Bands!!

If complications arised during surgery (and they sometimes do, regardless of the type of surgery) NOW picture the patient as YOUR CHILD...who would you want handling it? A surgeon who was doing this type of surgery for the first time or an old pro? Just my two cents P.S. -Isn't boston in MA, is Boston one the countries Medical Meccas?
  5. Hello All, My story is a little different then most of you on this board. But I really don't "fit" in any catergory. I had 1st Lap-band surgery. Surgery was aborted BEFORE actual placement of band. Surgeon said it was aborted due to abnormality in anatomy. Although he did sucessfully remove my gallbaddler. I had 2-nd attempt at placing lap-band @ same hospital w/ my original surgeon assited by another expert lap-band surgeon, approx 6 months after original attempt. Lap-band surgery 2-nd attempt was also aborted, due to scar tissue (internal) from first surgery. :faint: Now I'm on Phentermine, it works okay, but not great. It is prescribed for appetite supression. Just recently started the Phen RX, about a month ago. I don't feel it is doing much, but then again neither am I. Other then continuing to make healthier food choices (I have been slacking on the gym lately). Tracy- What is Effexor? And how does it help when used w/ phentermine? I am just wondering how everyone else deals? Does anyone else struggle with the decission of considering more drastic WLS? Anyone know how to the "it factor" back...the one that gets u back to gym, back on track?

    Reaction to surgical tape

bug, I too got the blisters (from surgical adhesive-surgical glue). Second surgery they made a note in my chart & I reminded them just before going into pre-op. They used alternative measures to close me up (old fashion stitches). Hospitals/surgeon are used to dealing w/ allergies that they are aware of and prepare accordingly...I think most people run in to trouble when medical staff are unprepared/unaware/unexpected prior. Hope that helps

yes, I think we are on the same page. I heard he is the best in his field.:eyebrows: :zip: I had heard rumors as to the losing weight thing. How much in your opinion. I started pre-op at 223, I now weighing in at about 188lbs depending on the day. How exactly does the weight loss affect the out come? Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    Dr.C ...ever heard of this?

Hello, I am curious if anyone was physically unable to be banded? This is what happened to me. I thought I was ready for every possible complications...I guess I was EXCEPT for non-placement. Never really understood this was a rare possibility. I won't say it wasn't mentioned, but I will say I have no recollection of it ever being mentioned. Although I am sure somewhere in waiver we all sign prior to surgery (in the very small print) it is probably listed. Let me say, I researched & did more reseach and finally I picked an expirenced surgeon w/ a great record, and a world renowed hospital. I was told it was due to abnormality in my anatomy I was unabled to be banded. I had a second attempt at band placement by my original doctor assited by another world class lap-band doctor, preformed @ same hospital. The second attempt was also aborted only this time due to scare tissue (internal) from the first attempt. I would still have lap band placed if it was viable possibility. So I guess I looking for a person who may have had band placed after several failed attempts & lots of scar tissue.
