    September Bandsters

Hello all, Can I get in on this challenge? I am still on mushies and have no fill yet but a friendly competition would probably do me good. How do we update the ticker once we have it there, do we just do it over

    I need help guys

If you are hungry all the time you must not be getting all the Protein you need for the day. Have you had any luck with the Protein shakes, try unjury.com? Protein and Water I think is the key to staying full. If you get creative with the shakes you can have something nutritious and feel like it is dessert. The bars on dietdirect.com are also delicious. There are lots of protein added meals as well.
  3. Hello, I was banded on 9-22 and I am finding that you actually eat more often and just "graze" I am not yet on solids but I can already see that I eat slowly, socialize and will be able to eat more in a few hours. In fact, you will be hungry every few hours. I am now looking forward to Thanksgiving because I can just graze and not have that full-I need a nap feeling all day.

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Hello, I am actualy a September bandster and today is my week "bandiversary." I can really relate to all the feelings you all are having, because I have been through them all in the last month. I have been on liquids now for three weeks, two weeks pre-op and one post-op. Prior to my liquid diet, I spent two weeks saying goodbye to my favorites that are not band friendly- hot dogs, bread and butter, steak, pizza, among other things. I put myself 11 more pounds away from my goal, which I regret. Once on liquids I did not put a single morsel of food in my mouth figuring if the liquids were to shrink my liver and make room for the Dr to band me easily, I was going to make as much room as possible. I would only be endangering myself, and I chose this for the low risk feature. I think I was in mourning of food, but I realize now that though there are certain foods that I have to stay away from, we don't have to say good bye to food. We will actually spend more time eating and enjoying our food since we will eat 5-6 small meals. Octo-bandsters, there are great recipes for getting the Protein in at all stages, and post op surgery lists on this site that have been invaluable. What a great source of information. What everyone should know is, every doctor is different, each of us are different, and recovery is not the same for everyone. I think it is really important to follow your own doctor's instructions and conquer each day at a time. We didn't get this way because we have so much willpower. Keep drinking the Protein shakes (Isopure at GNC has 50 grams), they will keep the hunger at bay along with sipping Water. What an exciting time for you all, best of luck to all of you coming to bandland!

    September Bandsters

Best of luck to you Larry, good job on sticking to the rules and your weight loss. I was banded a week ago today and am feeling much better. You won't feel hunger for the first few days- do your best to sip protein, juice, and most important, water. Hopefully you have someone there to help you out. Let us know how you are doing! Diane

    Lila's Lounge

Hi Lila, Laying on my stomach is still a fantasy for me, my husband has to help me turn to get on my side, thanks I'm sure to the hiatal hernia I had. As for the gas, I learned in nursing school (I was a CNA a ways back...) to lay in the "Left Sim's position" to relieve gas. Lay on your left side and a lean forward, lift your right knee (should be on the bed not "up") like a loose right angle. (Not promising your hubby won't see this as another opportunity, mine sure would. He would tell me " honey, just stay there, you don't even need to be awake for this")

    I am so devastated!

Thanks for your well wishes. Only my hubby wil get his money back, not me. But at least I was fortunate enough to be able to get my surgery. That's the important thing. My home and worklife revolved around it and having to start at it from the beginning would have been horrible. I am very thankful...

    I am so devastated!

I just don't know what to do- I just got a call from my Dr, also very upset (they all lost thier jobs), Provena Mercy Hospital cancelled the Wish Center Program in Illinois! My surgery date is supposed to be in 8 days, I have already started my 2 week liquid diet and they tell me today they dropped the program! My husband and I have both been going through the program, are self pay, and have spent an ungodly amount of money already. My whole life is revolving around this date both at work and at home and I feel like the light at the end of the tunnel is a freight train! My husband called the hospital administration and tore them apart, I don't know whether they will change thier minds and honor my surgery date or if I have to possibly spend more money to go to the Texas facility. I have been crying my eyes out...do I go have a steak, or do I keep my liquids going. I am just so devastated about this...

    I am so devastated!

Thanks for your advice, but they did honor mine- we just have to get the money back for my hubby. We not only threatened legal action, but also that we would go to the press. I think Dr Rosen was the driving force behind the allowance for those of us who were already on the schedule this month. I am two days banded now. I will look up the person you suggest if we have any trouble getting my husband's money back. Thanks so much,

    Lila's Lounge

Hello, and thanks to all of you for your well wishes. I have not yet heard from Lila, but I personally am doing OK. The lap band is doing fine, I can barely feel it. What is causing me pain is the hiatal hernia that showed up. The doc fixed it and everyday I seem to be getting around better. I am having difficulty getting the Protein drink down, the smell of it actually turns my stomach. I have several kinds, but the variety is not helping. Maybe once I can trow a little banana in it will help. I am also not a big fan of shots, and I have to get one every 8 hours. My sweetie pie is hating having to give them to me. I have to get off here and get some form of protein in so I will post more later. TTYAS,

    September Bandsters

Hello, Well, I am finally in bandland! Went in Friday morning and went home around 9:00 at night. I am told that everything went well with the exception of two hernias they discovered. The hiatal hernis they fixed, but the other one behind my belly button is very slight right now. Yesterday I did some walking, drank as much protein as I could and watered down fruit juice. Not much of an appetite even today. My family has been doing a great job helping me move around and stick to me post op menu. I would have to say the hernia is very verysore, and I don't feel to much wherever the port may be. I hope everyone else is doing well, I wil write more later. TTYS, Diane

The dreaded protein shakes and bars

I go in tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. and I will certainly let everyone know how it goes. Right now I am gonna fit one more Protein shake in before midnight (ugh) After we can put a banana in there or something right? I will have to check with the doc. Not looking for anything to complicate things... Talk to you all tomorrow from bandland!

The dreaded protein shakes and bars

I ordered and got it in about a week and a half. May depend on location. There are lots of recipes on the site, I have posted them here not long ago.

    Hair Loss

I have heard it could be from lack of Protein, and also some people lose hair just from the trauma your body goes through when you have surgery. I am not a doctor, but this is what I have heard.

    Lila's Lounge

Lila, Have a good trip, remember we are cyber surgery partners! Mine is at 10:30 a.m. (Chicago Time) I will be thinking of you and will post as I am up to it! After all this waiting I can't believe we are almost there. Thanks to all who posted such positive posts for us to read. You guys are such inspiration!

    I am so devastated!

Thank you so much, it has been an emotional roller coaster this past two weeks between that drama and the two week liquid diet (fighting head hunger) My Doctor fought really hard to get at least his this months surgeries back on the schedule. A couple more days and I will hopefully be posting about my sucessful banding!
  17. Faybie, It seems as though all of us have very similar eating trends. Right now, I am on the 2nd week of the preop liquid diet and I am having drive thru withdrawals. What has really been helping me is listening to books on tape while in the car. Pogo is really good for wasting time, but playing games and chatting keeps you busy. I just mix a Protein shake and play some games instead of watching TV. It helps to keep my hands and mind occupied.

    I am so devastated!

My surgery is back on for the same date thanks to the diligence of Dr Rosen at the Illinois Wish Center and his wonderful staff :clap2: The Director of Surgery called to apologize for the emotional roller coaster they put us on and I am back to looking forward to joining you all in bandland!! Thanks to any and all who called and voiced thier support in behalf of us and for all your kind words of support!

    September Bandsters

I am still hoping they honor mine at least. I am 8 days away for God's sake and have already built a trust with the staff there (who are fabulous, and also shocked and upset) I just hate to think about starting all over... How someone can step in and alter so many peoples lives like they don't matter is unbelievable.

    I am so devastated!

From what I have heard, a new CEO came in and made a whole bunch of changes at the hospital, including dumping the Wish Center program. The group at the Wish Center have all been so supportive and the program so thorough. The number to name I was given is Kris Pike 630-801-2560, Hospital Administration number is 630-859-2222. Anyone who wants to call and complain on behalf of fellow bandsters and future bandsters we welcome your help!

    I am so devastated!

I got the call late yesterday afternoon and it is possible I can go to the Wish Center in San Antonio, but again- more money. I am already on the 2 week preop liquid diet, so I don't know if I should go off the liquids or stay hoping something turns around here. I am going to wait for some calls back this morning and hope they at least honor the surgeries they have scheduled. I am nearly out of tears right now and can't even comfort my self with mashed potatoes and gravy...

    I am so devastated!

Yes, Dr. Rosen is dedicated to his patients and I am sure he will be available to support you as soon as he relocates. They are contacting patients currently. He was not included in the decision, the hospital has new administration and they pulled the plug on the program. I have a number I will send on a private message for you to call if you want to join us in our vehement complaints. Good luck to you as well.

    September Bandsters

I am so upset- The hospital dropped the program and is refusing to do any more lap bands there. I had 8 days and am on my liquid diet already. Now I don't know what is going to happen. My sweetiepie called and gave them a new a**hole and is demanding they honor my surgery date, but I don't know if they will. We are self payers and have already spent so much in this program- I just cannot afford to start over. I am just so upset and dissapointed, I was almost in bandland...

    Chicago friends

Hi Teri, I am from Northlake (by Elmhurst) and I am getting banded on 9-22 at the Wish Center. We are self pays, from what I hear, unless this a medical necessity, most insurance companies don't cover it at all. I would imagine if your surgery is covered, the fills should be to. Maybe just give them a call? Where are you getting banded at?
