  1. I am having a great weekend. Yesterday nephew graduated so we went to a little party at sister-in-laws house. It was way crowded with people I didn't know. I stayed away from the snacks and it feels great to have done that. My daughter is coming over (my one and only, she is 22 and lives out on her own apartment in Arlington) and I think we are going to Sam Moon and shopping around. Tomorrow is my Psych appt so I took the whole day as a vacation day. Loving this long weekend. When do you start your preop diet? What's it like? I do agree that getting on here an reading the posts and blogs helps me stay in the groove. And I LOVE looking the progress pics. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  2. Sorry, I didnt get your message ealier enough. By now, you are there trying to get some sleep on that hard bed...lol. I am sure that they managed to get through that without you removing your nail. Let me know how everything goes! I came home the next morning and took a two hour nap. Kinzie

  3. Good luck on all your procedures, you will do fine! My real first name is Kinzie. Believe me, I am taking no where near a half hour to eat yet. But, as much as I can, I try to eat slowly and chew chew chew. I keep telling myself that I can't make all the changes at once, but I want to "practice". Let me know how things go!

  4. Continued: I am beginning to find out that everyone at Baylor knows what they are doing and has a great attitude. So far I have been nothing but impressed. The group meeting was actually good. Of course there are all types of people at all stages of both surgeries, but I found it helpful and will keep going. I am determined to just do what they tell me works! Next up is my psych appt the day after Memorial Day. PS: I cannot believe that I have given up all carbonated drinks and all caffiene. This is a first for me. I am working on the small bites, chewing and no drinks before, during or after meals. So far so good! Let me know how things go. I bet you are starting to get excited!

  5. Hi there! I hope you had a good vacation. I have not been on here for a few days but a lot has been going on. I saw Ashley a week ago Friday and she is wonderful. I had my sleep study that same night. That was different. I didn't think I had apnea and as it turns out I don't. This past Friday I had the upper GI and am pleased to say that it was not as bad as I was expecting. For some reason I thought they would put a scope down my mouth, but it was just an xray type machine as you drink the lovely barium.

  6. Hi there. I am beginning to realize that this 3 months is really a blessing. I think by the time surgery rolls around I will be mentally and physically ready. Did I read that you have insurance through Lockheed Martin? Mine is through there (Aetna). Did you have any problems with approval? My documented BMI is 43 and I have been just over 40 for the past 2 years so I am hoping there will not be any issues with approval. I went to my first support meeting at Baylor and it was good (I am beginning to realize that the Baylor program is great). Do you know if there are any groups that are just for band patients? Thanks for sharing. I know have others experience will really come in handy!

  7. Hi Mill Meliss, I am 48, live in Keller Tx and have just started my 3 month plan....I like reading your posts for inspiration! Thanks,

  8. Hope all went well today!

  9. They did not weigh us at the seminar I went to recently. They did giveus a BMI calculator so that we could determine the BMI. You will learn a lot, definitely go!
  10. Not sure about you, but I loved him. Dr Matin spent a lot of time with me and he was very easy to talk to. I felt more at ease with him than I did Anne(?) but I am sure that will come. Next I get sleep study, begin meeting with nutritionist, some physical therapy for knees and back, and, let's see, something else I can't even remember right now. The process has started. They estimate about 4 months total. I hope you liked him and have a date!!!! Enjoy your vacation. I hope you don't have to go "liquid" the whole time. K

Thanks! I am ready to get started and really do want to start off on the right foot, so it's good to know I don't really have to worry about losing too much (sounds funny doesn't it?, I should be so lucky). Ready for change!

Thanks so much, that makes me feel better. I am so ready to get started now, but didn't want to do anything to blow my chances of approval.
  13. Thanks for the note. I plan to go to the May meeting too. It will be my first one, so I don't know what to expect, but from what I hear it is all the support that makes the difference so I am in! Good luck - your day is coming up fast. I hope your wife is doing well.

  14. Kathi that's great. My appointment is for 1:30! I think Dr Matin is only in Grapevine on Wednesdays, so guess that makes sense. I am not sure if I will be there two hours, but who knows. I will look for you though. Shout out if you think it's me. We will compare notes soon.

  15. Hi Kathi, thanks for "friending" me. Yes definitely hope to see you at the meetings. I plan to start this month at the Grapevine group and see what it is all about. I was wrong about my appointment with Matin, it's not until Wednesday. I will let you know how it goes. I hope this moves along quickly for you! Thanks again for messaging me. PS: I love your motto fit before 50. That is a great goal for me too!

Hi there. I am new to this site and the process. I have first appointment with surgeon this Tuesday. I would appreciate any advice on what I should ask; don't want to forget anything important. So far I know my insurance (Aetna) covers surgery at 100% and that my BMI at 42 puts me on the 3 month plan. I assume the goal is to get healthy (liver fat), exercise and lose some weight before surgery, but what happens if you lose too much weight - will the doc specify how much I should lose? I have chosen Dr Matin and will have surgery at Baylor Grapevine. For now, I am just learning as much as I can and trying to be patient, but I am ready to begin this journey and change my life. For the first time ever I really believe that normal weight is possible for me.
