  1. I met with the dietien again today and I have now lost the required amount of lbs for them to send off the letter to the insurance asking for the approval. They said it could take 30-60 days before I hear back. Getting scared the closer it is. I forgot to ask them once I meet with the surgeon how long after that before the surgery.... I still not sure when to notify work that I will be off for a week. Hey I am curious, what does mushies or pureed food consist of that everyone eats?
  2. That is awful!!!! I know you are upset now, give it until tomorrow afternoon when you can think more on it with a clearer mind and you will be able to come up with a decision that works for you. Good Luck!
  3. What kind of foods are you eating for protein?

    Hopefully starting a new journey

:confused:I have my first apt Monday to meet the doctor and dietitian. Making my list of questions, trying to keep from being nervous. Worrying can I do this? Not eating much after the surgery, follow the pre-surgery diet suggestions. I am on a 3 month physician supervised weight loss program for my second insurance. My place of work is going to be a problem as to when I will actually be able to take a leave of absence for the surgery. And my second insurance coverage expires on 11-30-09 so I know it will be a race against the clock between work and having the surgery before the second insurance coverage stops. Oh well, if anyone has any insight on something they wished they would have asked the doc prior to surgery please share.

  6. Glad to see your question. I am 234 lbs at 5'3 I was having doubts due to being the smallest in the room too but I feel so bad. It is hard to walk, can't exercise due to multiple problems or wind up hurting myself when I do. I go Monday for my first apt. The insurance approved the beginning phases and I have to go thru a 3 month period before they would consider final approval for the surgery. Thanks to all of the people who post replies, this really is a good place to get good information! OK, now I know some of my questions I want to ask but if any one has any good advice on what I need to ask my doctor it would be appreciated!
  7. I take it I would have to stop smoking? I didn't realize that...

OK, I have been to the doctors informational meeting, so I am reading all of their papers again, and I keep going back and forth on deciding do I want to do lap band or the gastric bypass. Both of them would be laparoscopic they say. after reading the lap band clinical studies they list it says about 52% only lose 33% of their excess weight. I am about 90 lbs overweight. I thought it is best to ask the ones that have had this done to find out if you are happy with your decision:smile: Learning to adjust to your new eating restrictions and so on.....Let me know.

Thanks everyone for the great info. You have given me good points. I have looked into this for quite a while but finally went to the info meeting the doctors had. Their practice has been in place for 6 years and associtated with the hospital I work. I know my insurance pays for both surgeries but not sure if I will be approved yet. They are looking into that now. All of you proved the lapband is successful if you work hard enough and want it bad enough:smile2: Thanks again and have a great weekend:tt1:
