    Day 18 of plateau

Fast food can be a trigger for me. Even if I'm very careful about watching the calories, one trip soon turns into 4 trips and I'm back to craving fatty, salty foods. So I avoid it to the best of my ability. Maybe it's time for a meeting with the support staff, like the dietician, at your surgeon's office? Sometimes I new set of eyes and a different voice to give us "the talk" about compliance is what we need.
  2. I've lost 100 in 8 months and I'm still losing (albeit more slowly now). It can be done. My PCP said bypass might be better for me given my starting BMI close to 50. But my surgeon thought I'd do fine with the band, and that's what I wanted, so that's what we did. I don't regret it at all-- best thing I've done for myself.
  3. I have four. Three are 1/4 inch long or less, and the port is an inch long. They are in a diamond shape with the port being the bottom of the diamond

    Back to the Basics

I'm still less than a year into this process, but I'm glad to hear you're back on track! This is good news to me-- I went with this surgery precisely because it's always possible to adjust again if you have trouble in maintenance. Good luck to you!
  5. I weigh once every day, in the morning. I can do this because I absolutely expect and don't mind the daily fluctuations. I count each new "low" obtained as my weight, and ignore fluctuations up to 2 lbs back up because I know my body after doing all of this tracking and I know those small ups aren't real pounds. So one day I'll be 174.8, the next I'll be 176.6, the next 176.2, the next 175.0, etc.-- you get the picture. I count myself as 174.8 until I hit the next lower number. This works for me, but may not work for everyone.
  6. You don't have to get a fill-- it absolutely does not sound like you need one, so cancel or go in to check in and firmly say no Shoot for 800 calories, at least. Maybe you can't make 1200, but 800-1000 is doable I would think.

    July 4 Challenge 2011

I'm in for 10, which is probably wishful thinking My real goal for June is exercise related. I need to start working on fitness, not just thinness!
  8. You are not alone-- I just don't think you're hearing from the people in your boat in this thread. I remember a thread in this forum from a couple weeks ago from a bandster who is 8 months in and just starting to see some results. It is very frustrating, I'm sure! This is the time to see your doctor frequently to figure out what to do. Unfortunately, during the losing stage it sort of IS a diet-- because you are trying to consume fewer calories than you burn. Don't give up yet!

    I DONT UNDERSTAND

I strongly suggest that you go in to your surgeon's office and talk with the nutritionist. When you go, take at least one week (two is better) of a journal that documents every bite of food or drink of liquid you take, including calories and protein. That will help the nutritionist see what's going on. It's hard to say why you aren't losing without this detailed information. You could have too few calories, or you could have too many (at dinner and the snack, if you're over-indulging to compensate for not being able to eat breakfast and dinner). This is the time to follow-up with your doctor and make a plan together that gets you back on the right track.

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Well, apparently I was holding on to a LOT of water, because in 3 days after my fill (and the liquid diet that comes with it), I've lost almost 7 lbs. I weighed in at 175 this morning, which is 25 lbs from my goal weight of 150. Now that I'm this close, I'm thinking of edging my goal weight down to 140. We'll see where I end up I guess. It seems like once you reach a certain point that makes your body happy, it's probably not worth the struggle to go lower. It feels so good to be back in my sweet spot! I forgot how different it feels to be full on so little food and to not get hungry. Love my band. Sorry to hear about your slip, Chris! I hope it resolves itself and you don't have to have another surgery.

    A little bit discouraged.....

I'll echo the others-- you're doing the right things, consistently-- your body will eventually get with the program. Just don't give up!

Baby Food or NO baby food?

It's up to you. I did not eat baby food. pureed chili was my savior during that particular stage. Between that, ricotta cheese bake, yogurt, cottage cheese, and refried Beans, I did not personally feel the need to resort to baby food.
  15. Wow, you've had a tough start! But, I'm glad you've got a fix and this too shall pass. Soon you will be recovered and have a working port!
  16. Yikes, that pain is the worst. For me it felt like a pinched nerve in my shoulder/neck and unfortunately it lasted several days. I remember one thing that helped with sleep/etc was to use one of those curved airplane pillows that fit around your neck. It did double-duty-- heated the area that was bothering me and gave my head some extra support to help me sleep while sitting.

    severe headache

I had this-- in fact, the headache was the worst pain. Some of it was caffeine withdrawal. Some of it was the lortab I was taking for pain (I've since discovered it can give me a headache, funnily enough). The good news is-- it will go away. Tylenol is a safe pain reliever and comes in liquid form, though I would check to make sure you can take it with whatever stronger pain med you're on.

    What am I doing wrong?

Your loss sounds EXACTLY like my loss. I lose in bursts, then my body adjusts, then I drop another chunk-- that's how it was for my first 100 lbs anyway. Now I lose even slower than that Seems totally normal.

    Food Limit

Sorry-- PB'ing means "productive burping", a process many people go through when they get food stuck. It isn't full-on vomiting, but more like burping up the stuck food without any bile. Sliming is what happens when saliva and digestive juices collect on top of stuck food and backs up into your mouth (I think-- that's what I've gathered from others). Both of these are associated with getting food stuck.

What to wear on surgery day?

Sounds perfect-- in fact, I wore yoga pants and a long-sleeved t-shirt (I knew I'd be cold in the hospital). They gave me traction socks (we are apparently a "fall risk" and I had a wrist band that said it in bright orange- haha). But, I took my crocs so it was easy slip on and off, yet supportive for my required laps around the unit.

    Fast Food Choices?

Wendy's chili is a good one. I also sometimes get a Chik-fil-A nugget kids' meal and substitute the fresh fruit for the waffle fries.

Is 3 pounds a week reasonable?

You would be highly atypical if you were able to lose 3lbs a week every week. Maybe you will (I hope so!), but try not to set yourself up for disappointment. It's really hard to compare because there are so many variables, but a rule of thumb seems to be the closer you get to goal, the slower you lose. I lost very quickly for the first 100 lbs but now that I'm at 180, I've been stuck here for a month. I'm going to have to change things up to kick start my loss again. Because I expected this, it is less frustrating than it might otherwise have been (still frustrating, just less so). In any case, I wish you the best of luck.

    Has anyone signed this?

I highly doubt that is authentic and furthermore, would never go to a quack who made me sign it. It's insulting to imply that my big grocery budget would now allow me to buy $10-$20,000 in plastic surgery. I probably spend more on groceries now because I don't buy (much) cheap processed food or fast food. That said, my doc and his staff are very clear from the seminar on forward that WLS patients will never be "skinny", they will just be much less fat. They try really hard to prepare people for the realities of the 60% of excess weight lost average. And, I was well aware that plastic surgery was not covered by insurance as it is a cosmetic procedure. I don't have a problem with either of those things-- but seriously, if I would have seen that form, I would have walked right out of his office and chose another surgeon. I've been condescended to enough in my 35 years by doctors about my fat.

    Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Congratulations Lisa!!!! I'm on my first long plateau. A month with no loss. But, to be honest, I'm not eating as clean and healthy as I could be and I'm not exercising, so it's pretty much all on me I think.
