    Called a Cheater

I think people are entitled to their own opinions but shouldn't push it onto others. Cheating for everyone is different. For some people, any assistive devices other than doing it natural, like pills or surgery, will always be cheating and taking the easier way out. While I don't agree with that thought, I can respect it as long as they can respect the decision that I've made. In the end, this is a personal decision we've all made. Would I lose this weight if I didn't have the surgery? Probably not. Does that make it cheating? I don't really care what it makes it. Call it cheating, call it using my resources, call it what you want...I'm calling it success.
  2. Well since I was originally gonna be banded July 20, I have off until Aug 3rd so basically 3 weeks which is nice. And I would love to hook up with you but that weekend I'm actually going to be in Milwaukee visiting a friend while I have time off! Maybe next time you're down this way.

hurts to take a deep breath

Breathing issues after surgery are very common, especially laproscopic surgery which can cause a "gas pain" in the shoulder and midchest area which each breath. The easiest way to alleviate this is if you weren't given an incentive spirometer is to do several deep breathing techniques. One of the ways I tell my patients (they're kids) to look at it is to practice trying to blow out your birthday candles, or trying to blow a bubble - the concept is just that you are taking a deep, prolonged breath in to help stretch out your lungs. Do this 10 times an hour while you are awake and after a few days it should feel easier to breath. If you don't take deep breaths you risk lots of complications, including pneumonia. We don't want that!!
  4. Don't worry girl it was a list minute surgery date change so I got banded earlier than expected. I'm feeling a decent amount of restriction although my doctor doesn't fill the band during surgery so I expect in a couple of days when the swelling goes down that I won't really feel any. I'm just ready to be off of this puree food diet stage and onto something more solid! How about you?

    Surgery Date Changed!

I just found out this past Wednesday that my surgery date was changed from July 20 to this Monday, July 13...I'm super excited but feel rushed, trying to get to the store and tie up loose ends. I was planning on having the week of July 13 to do all of that. I am so looking forward to the challenges ahead!!!

    July 2009 Dates

Ok my date just got changed from July 20th to July 13 - woohoo!!!
  10. Hey! My surgery date just got changed to July 13 as well! They are squeezing me in the first case at 7:30 in the morning. I'm happy but it feels like it's happening way to fast since I just found out today that it will be on Monday, so I feel rushed to go to the grocery store and tie up loose ends. What time is your surgery? Maybe we'll see each other!

  11. Congrats on getting approved! Your date is exactly one week before mine :D As far as the 2 week diet goes, I'm sure you'll be fine. Just keep reminding yourself that it's so the surgery will be safer, and once you see results you should be able to stay motivated. My friend lost 12 pounds going the 2 week diet. Good luck!!!

  12. Welcome to the world of nursing!

I love your quote by the way...gotta love Mr. Silverstein

    Pre-Op Diet?

That sounds like a good idea. Even though I only am required to do the 3 day medifast diet, I am going to try to do my own version of a week long preop diet just to help get my numbers down before surgery. It's interesting to see the variety of diets that different doctors prescribe!

    Pre-Op Diet?

I have a lower BMI and am only required to do a 3-day MediFast liquid only diet. I'm more than willing to do it for the safety reasons related to my liver but am also glad I don't have to do a super long one either. Although my friend who was banded by the same doctor did a 2 week one and lost like 15 pounds so that would be nice. Juniper, your diet doesn't sound too horrible compared to some of the others I've heard about.

Had just gotten my forarms done

    love the ink!!
  18. For my doctor, I think it's based on the BMI. My friend has a higher BMI and had to do a 2 week diet and my BMI is 37 and only have to do a 3 day one.

Did you tell everyone or no?

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. I feel the same way about my sister and am worried what kind of effect it will have on her. For most of my life, she was the skinny one and I was the big one so I know what it feels like to be on the other side, and I'd hate for her to feel that way even if it's not my fault. All I can hope is that it will be a motivation for her and we can work on it together.

Bandsters with ink, talk to me!

Most of mine are on my back and then one on my shoulder so I'm not too worried. I plan on getting a full back piece as well as hips so I'm just gonna weight until I reach my goal weight to be sure.

    July Bios?

Hey everyone! My name is Jessica. I'll be 26 in October, I'm single with no kids, and a pediatric nurse in Cincinnati Ohio. My doctor and I haven't set an official goal weight yet, but I have between 80 to 100 pounds to lose, and I'm 5'5". I've been overweight since I hit puberty, and am actually closer to my smallest weight now. I was as high as around 260 pounds, lost about 50 pounds with diet an exercise bringing me to around 210 and have gained back around 10 pounds in a 3 year period. I'm ready for the band and the lifestyle change that comes with it, and always looking to meet new friends going through similar experiences!
