    I don't care: A Michael Jackson Rant

I'm not an idiot...nor am I saying people can't have opinions. In fact, I was doing just that...adding my opinion into the mix.
  2. girl you need to be my stylist

  3. I also did not get filled at all during surgery, my doctor likes to give the stomach a full month to heal before messing around.

5th Day out and yes I ate Chicken!!

I agree with the other posters. Even though it may seem alright, chicken takes more work than liquids/puree/whatever you're supposed to be eating right now to digest - you're stomach has to churn and turn and move more during the digestion process, and this is where you can rip a stitch or other complications. Listen to your doctor!! He didn't come up with these rules just to see you suffer...hopefully :cool2: You can do it!
  5. Ok ladies I need some advice with the greek yogurt. Tried the fage total 0% today and am okay with it, just was wondering if you could share some ideas of good things to mix in with it or us it on?

    Newbie banded on July 7th

Hey at least you're dreaming of good stuff and not the crap that taunts me in my dreams And I have no shame in admitting that I totally wanna go on the NKOTB cruise with you
  7. I would make an appointment with my doctor to follow up with him - he's the one that will give you the proper advice. If you don't feel right about it then definitely get it checked out.

    Temptations

Oh man those are both tough stories! Yes Tracy I think you took the cake, no pun intended lol I had to sit through the movies with butterry popcorny goodness being offered to me every 2 seconds. Bobbie you get extra points for having to bring your own stuff! Way to go ladies!!!

    Temptations

Since surgery, I've been nice and safe in my apartment with all of my good-choice food by my side, no temptations in sight. Today I ventured outside of my bubble and ran some errands with my mom. Finally she said she was so starving and she was going to go through the White Castle drive thru, although she said if it was too hard for me she wouldn't do it. I told her to go ahead and do it. But maaaaaan was it hard to be in a car for the 7 minute drive home filled with that amazing smell, and then go home and sit with her while she eats her delicious deliciousness and I'm finishing one of my last days of puree diet lol Although it was a great feeling to pass up that temptation, very proud of myself. What kind of temptations have you been faced? Has your family and friends been "careful" about what they eat around you?
  10. Yes ma'am I'm a peds RN - I work on a post-op surgical floor, what about yourself?

    I don't care: A Michael Jackson Rant

It's too bad innocent unless proven guilty doesn't hold up. Michael Jackson was weird, you can go as far as saying he's a freak, most wouldn't argue that - hell if you were in the spot light since the age of 6, your version of normal would be twisted too. I just get frustrated that people speak on things that they know NOTHING about. You weren't there, you can't know he's probably a molester...you know nothing of this matter except what the media advertised! And implying he was a bad father and that his kids didn't come first...on what basis? Granted the balcony incident was dumb as all can be, but his kids were barely in the media and when they were, it seems his version of protecting their privacy included covering them with masks and such so they wouldn't be so easily recognized on a day to day basis. We know nothing about how he was as a father so why should we go around saying he was a bad one? Just my rant.
  12. My doctor said it can be normal too to put on some weight when you switch diet stages because you go from taking practically no calories in on the liquid stage, to incorporating "real" food. Also, how often are you measuring yourself? People can fluctuate 2-3 pounds on a day to day basis. I always try to remember to weigh myself first thing in the morning around the same time, wearing around the same thing, on the same day every week. I firmly believe in weighing myself only one time a week, twice if I feel I'm doing extremely good or poor. And measuring yourself was a good route to go as you can see drastic changes there while barely noticing anything on the scale. Good luck to you!

7-Day Pre-Op Diet, should this be longer?

As many have said, each doc is different - it's a preference. I know my doc based i on BMI and since my BMI was "only" 37, I only had to do a 3-day preop diet versus some in my class that had to do it for 4 weeks because of much much much higher BMIs. One of the main goals of pre-op is to basically shrink your liver so that it doesn't get in the way during surgery.

    healthy frozen dinners

I'm a big frozen dinner eater, and yes most of them have more than a day's serving worth of carbs in one dinner. Try to stay away from noodle-based ones and go for the ones that have meat and a veggies. I also love Boca burgers, they're easy to throw in the microwave and then I'll pair it with steamers frozen veggies in the single-serve size.

    vacation..first day of normal food

That's awesome! We looove North Topsail, been going since I was a kid. We're booking our home next week for 2010's vaca - we're serious about it lol I'm a peds nurse and would love to move around that area sometime late next year. I know New Hanover hospital in Wilmington has recently opened a new pediatric unit in the hospital, but other than that I don't know of many pediatric hospital/units near the cost. My understanding is that the big places to take the kids are Chapel Hill and Raleigh?
  17. Aleve does not contain aspirin. But yes always check with your surgeon before taking anything that wasn't recommended. Aleve was listed as a suggestion in my discharge instructions.

    Surgery Stories

I was banded July 13. My surgery started at 730am, and I was home by 930am. My least favorite part of surgery has always been coming out of anesthesia, being in that "groggy" half awake half asleep phase. I remember coming out of surgery, telling them I couldn't breath (I guess because I couldn't take deep breaths?) so they put oxygen on me. They tried to get me to take some ice chips but I didn't want to. They let me sleep for about 30 minutes, I started to wake up then and was asking for ice chips and they gave me pain meds. Walked to the bathroom to pee, sat up in the chair for another 15 minutes or so, and was on my way out the door. Took about a 2 hour nap at home, and then spent the rest of the day walking around the house. I've had tons of surgeries in the past but this was my first laparoscopic surgery and I was absolutely amazed at how great I felt in comparison. And thankfully I didn't get hungry that day!

Any other July banders doing low carb?

My doctor and dietician like us to follow a high protein low carb regime. By low carb, I mean they recommend under 60 gm a day, which has been totally doable. They don't say "don't eat any carbs," they just say try to eat the good complex carbs versus simple, and like everything else do it in moderation. I am totally addicted to all types of carbs, so it's been nice to learn how to eat them in moderation. Plus I have insulin resistance d/t PCOS so it's been helping keep my symptoms at bay as well.

    Breathe Deep

Glad to hear everything went well! I'd suggest extending a day...I felt amaaaaazing on the first day, and a train hit me the second day. I can't imagine being cramped in a car for 7 hours! Good luck to you!

    Disappointed

Headhunter has it right! As disappointing as I'm sure it is, keep in mind that it is for your own safety. Dying on the OR table isn't one of those things they have to tell you legally but doesn't really happen...it does!!! Every decision they have made has been to keep you safe, so kudos for the anesthesiologist for making a hard decision in favor of your health. I am one of those people that believe with my whole heart that everything really does happen, even if it sucks  Take this time to try to collect your thoughts and feelings, continue to try to loose weight on your own in the meantime, and surgery will be here before you realize it.
  22. Rubbing alcohol works decent enough. My doctor sent me home with a packet of adhesive remover, try asking to see if they can spare some because this is what works best as it was made for this.

    vacation..first day of normal food

I was just wondering this myself! Except I usually go to Topsail NC, and it's like a 12 hour drive. I was trying to think of good choices at the fast food drive thrus we'd inevitably be going through
  24. The reason there's that pain is because the Co2 they use to blow up your tummy to get their tools in irritates the diaphragm and phrenic nerve, which then makes you have referred pain in other places especially your left shoulder. Really the only thing that makes it go away is enough time for it to dissolve into the bloodstream - walking and moving really helps speed this along. Some have reported that taking aleve helped some although I didn't notice too much of a difference myself. It took about a full 5 days before it went completely away. Make sure to take nice big deep breaths, the kind you would take before blowing out candles or bubbles. Hope it goes away soon!
