    1st fill today

Your doc sounds like some of the pompous doctors I've worked with for the past 3+ years. I understand why he wouldn't want you to focus on the number of cc's, but if you want to know then he needs to tell you. I would demand some answers at the next visit, and call him out on the water and skipping breakfast - ask him to explain why this is okay. For me, personally, I'd be shopping for a new doc. But as RM said, I wouldn't have gone with him in the first place.

    banded 8/11..still so weak?

You just had your body cut into with a scalpel!! Give yourself time to rest. You're body is using all of it's energy to heal right now, not to mention that your calorie intake (assuming you're on liquids or puree) is pretty much nonexistent. Make sure you're walking around to prevent blood clots and get your lungs moving, but otherwise just chill out and focus on healing. When your body is ready, it will let you know.

    My stomach hates me!!

I don't really think there are any tricks to it...you gotta suck it up and get through these next 5 days using sheer willpower. I found it helpful to just keep reminding myself why I was having the surgery, why it was safest to stick with my preop diet, and kept things that inspired me around the house as visual aid (smaller clothes, picture of the bahamas trip I'm gonna take when I hit goal, etc) It's gonna be hard but you can do it!

    any one banded 7/15/09

I was banded July 13 with no saline in my band at the time of surgery but was fortunate enough to have decent restriction until my first fill this past Monday. The day after my fill, I ate 1/2cup greek yogurt mixed with 1tbsp PB and it kept me full for 5 hours.

3 years and cannot get it right!

I would talk to your doctor about this. Are you eating the right things, following the rules, exercising? You need to make sure you're doing your job, otherwise the band won't do it's job.

    VERY discouraged....

If you aren't able to keep anything down, you probably aren't getting your calories and nutrients for the day so your body is in starvation mode right now and holding onto every last pound it has. It is extremely important in situations like this to talk with your doctor!!! This is no way to live, not to mention if you get yourself dehydrated you're in for a boatload of trouble. It sounds like you may ned a slight unfill for your health's sake.
  8. Erin calorieking.com and thedailyplate.com both are great resources for looking up nutritional information on almost any type of food you can think of. Like TPG, I also am a big rule follower and get nervous if I don't follow things by the book. Will 1 day make a difference? We'd hope not, but as always check with your doctor.
  9. Also was prescribe Lortab, but switched to regular tylenol after day 2 as needed. My doctor also approved aleve on occasion as well, and that helped with swelling in the stomach and gas pains in my shoulder.

    A very rough day...but ALAS a solution

I know there are many on this forum that are anti-NSAIDS like Motrin, but when they are taken just on occasion they really can work wonders with the swelling and inflammation! My doctor also recommended the liquid motrin and I found relief my first week post op. Nice to hear you are feeling better!

    Little Progress - Encouragement/Advice Needed

Like others have said, first share your vomiting issues with your doctor. I would also talk to him about your lack of weight loss in general and see what his thoughts are on it. What are you eating? Are you making the right choices? Exercising? You need to make sure that you are doing the right things on your end as well, otherwise the band won't work. It can be discouraging to look at other people stats, but try not to compare yourself. Everyone is different in this journey. Try to focus on yourself and hang in there.
  12. Everyone's body reacts differently to the band. Some people physically can not eat rice, breads etc because they tend to get stuck. I so far have had no problem with those foods (knock on wood) but that could change next time I get a fill.

    Protein sources other than shakes

My fav Protein snack is Fage total 0% greek yogurt. You can mix anything in with it and it will take on that flavor. By itself it taste like sour cream, so I will use it as dipping for chicken, etc to boost the protein even more. Mixed with sweets, tastes delicious. My new fav is 1/2 cup greek yogurt with 1 tbsp reduced fat PB - so good!! Also, if you mix a ranch dip powder with it, you can use it to dip veggies in and you're getting your protein and veggies. I'm in love with it! On a side note, I tried carbmasters from Krogers on post op day 2 and it sent me into dry heaves...I think I'm sensitive if there's too much artificial sweetener

    Food Journal?

I've been journaling, just because I'm still learning nutrition content, portion sizes, etc. For me, especially at work, it's a big pain in the ass so as soon as I feel comfortable, I will probably stop. If I notice that my weight loss is slowing down, I'll start back up again to see if there is a pattern. For me, journaling reminds me of the countless times I tried losing weight in the past, it reminds me of dieting and I don't want to feel that way.
  15. Here's the scoop on my first fill...not bad at all! She felt around for my port (didn't hurt), sprayed numbing spray, put the needle in (don't peek at it). I didn't feel pain necessarily, just pressure. She had to move it around 2 or 3 times before she actually got into the port but that wasn't bad. She then fill up my band with 8CC of fluid and had me take a drink of contrast - that sensation wasn't too pleasant, my stomach area felt veeeery tight and then when I swallowed I could feel the liquid just sitting there. She then slowly pulled out a few cc's at a time until she found a spot where she thought the liquids flowed pretty good into my lower stomach, which ended up being 4cc. It was cool to watch the liquids drain into my stomach on the machine! But yea now my site is a tad sore but otherwise feeling good. This AM I ate 1/2 cup of greek yogurt with 1 tbsp reduced fat peanut butter, and 5 hours later I realized I was still full. It was awesome!!

  17. Thanks!! I've been wanting this cut for a while, didn't know if I could pull it off

    The "F" word

I don't necessarily want to go back lol I just know what some years down the road I'll be glad I did. For now I will still plan on being a staff RN, just will have my MSN on top of that. I'm not too interested in becoming an NP. University of Phoenix is a 19 month program, you take only one call every 6 weeks and it's all online, or you can do a local campus if you'd like.

    Daily caloric intake

Have you tried the shakes? I just saw a commercial for the Kellogg Protein Shakes and was wondering if they were any good
  21. There are a lot of psychological issues that we had before the band that the band seems to amplify. I know exactly what you mean. I'm going to NYC in September with a friend from high school to meet up with another friend from high school, and I'm already nervous about the eating situations, whether to tell them, etc. It's a huge mental adjustment, and you don't realize how it effects every aspect of your life. Personally, I'm going to be seeing a therapist for help along this journey.

    Daily caloric intake

I understand where you are coming from. I also find myself eating lower calories than anticipated. I talked with my nutritionist and she said she doesn't like to focus on minimal amount of caloric intake for the day, unless I hit a plateau, so I've been focusing more on protein carbs and fat and it's been working fine. If I were you, I'd talk with my dietician and the next visit and see if she has any recommendations for reaching your calorie goals.

    First Fill tomorrow!! 11cc band...

Hello! I just had my first fill yesterday. I also have an 11-cc Realize Band-C. My doc uses a fluoro machine, so I was standing up for this first fill. The NP felt around for my port, sprayed numbing cream, and stuck the needle in. One the needle was through the skin, she did have to "fish around" once or twice to get the port. It wasn't painful, just felt pressure. Then, she put 8cc in the band and had me take a drink. It wasn't painful, just a weird sensation to be able to feel my band tighten around my stomach, and feel the liquid sitting in my esophagus & pouch. It was cool because I could see on the machine that the Fluid wasn't passing through the band. She slowly took out a few cc's at a time until she felt the liquid was passing through the way she wanted it to. That ended up with me being at 4cc (I had none filled during surgery). Overall it wasn't a bad experience, just the anxiety leading up to it. As far as post fill diet, every doc is different so follow their advice. Mine makes me do liquids after the fill for the rest of fill day, the puree food on day 2, soft diet on day 3 and back to regular on day 4.

    The "F" word

Congrats Carrie! It will be tough work but definitely worth it in the end. Until I graduated in May 2006, my life was consumed with nothing but nursing school and vowed I would never go back. Now I'm going for my masters, go figure lol And Holli, I'm glad someone is willing to do computers! lol At least you were able to find out that it wasn't a fit for you before starting school.

    When did you start counting?

I included the 6 pounds I lost during my 3 day pre-op diet.
