  1. Had a Nut consult this week on what to eat after surgery. The meeting was great and I was surprised how much I had already learned here and she backed up a lot of it with why we eat a certain way.... So just wanted to say thanks for all the info and support!

    Fruit

I would still eat apples as they are a great carb with fiber and nutrition. Just keep in mind they are a carb. Having it with a protien like cheese or peanut butter will help keep u satisfied longer, too.

    Fruit

Fruit does have natural sugar, but also has Fiber and other nutrients. So it is a much better snack. That being said, fruit are still carbs. And nuts while they have Protein are a fat. Just plan well, and see the whole picture. Watermellon may have the natural sugar, but not a lot of fiber. Fiber seems to help off set the sugar.
  5. I just had my psych eval yesterday and almost ready to submit to insurance. The bariatric coordinator told they usually get an answer in three days. At first, I was internally elated, then fearful and sad. Could I be afraid of loosing food as a friend and the only unhealthy me I have known so long? Why would I want to hang on to the old me that has caused me physical pain and emotional embarrassment? This was just yesterday.... I am still thinking... Loved your post thanks!
  6. Just had my psych eval yesterday. It's more of a behavior modification eval for life after surgery than a mental health eval. It was pretty painless.

My Nut told me to avoid pineapple because it is so fiberous and stringy.

    To Vlog Or Not?

Hmmm, may be using an alias would work. But in the end it is still you. Abstinence is the only sure way of knowing.... No surprise babies. There are many great birth controls but only one is 100%. Just depends what you want to risk. Obviously, u are the only one who can answer that one for you.

    To Vlog Or Not?

The world wide web is exactly that.... Open to all. I would be concerned your family could hear it second hand. Consider all your reasons for not telling, versus sharing. I did not start telling until I was comfortable in my decision and could stand by it. But, I still have not told my folks. Just wife, kids and few friends. I have to be 100 % invested before I tell the parents. They are over 1,000 miles away, so far it has been okay just to plan this with my immediate family. This is your life. No shame, just choices. My pastor says to choose well and then once you have chosen, manage those decisions... No need to start over. Chad

    Fab 40's shout out

45, Married and 3 kids. Just about ready to submit to insurance. Ready for a life transformation!
  11. As a parent of a child with some chronic physical disabilities, I wanted to reach out. I have felt that scare. I am sorry. For years, we have cared for our kids... And did what was needed, especially my wife. I was left tired, discouraged and fat at 45. A walking dead man at times. The hope of this surgery has been life giving! If I could encourage you, it would be to... to take time for you, enjoy this journey, trust and connect. Peace, Chad
  12. Since a person is covered except for the surgical site, it is not as bad as I initially thought. Did take a minute or two to feel comfortable though. It helped me to see how the stomach is prepped, cut and stapled.

I watched this surgical video and found it to be great... It is actual realtime footage of a VSG procedure and MD commentary to break it up. Take a look if you are interested.... This MD is not my surgeon. Chad http://www.orlive.com/halifaxhealth/videos/weighing-the-options-gastric-sleeve-surgery

    Youtube

I watched two surgical videos. Had to know what would be happening inside of me. It took me a minute or two to be comfortable but then it was fine. You are just watching a procedure, and focused on a small area.... Other areas are all covered and draped.
