    Psych evaluation

I think psych evals are pretty hard to fail. Personally, I think they are more to screen people with substance abuse problems or people at are really on the edge of sanity. The fact that you are actually worried about it probably means you are going to be fine. Lol. Good luck!
  2. Waiting sucks but the surgery will probably be the easy part. You might see if there are support groups at your doc's or in the area. Getting support is very helpful through this process. Good luck!

    Just hours after surgery.

Good job man. Try rolling your shoulders and keep walking around. Deep breaths too. Good luck on your journey!

Have not been able to drink for 12 hours..

Definitely call the doctor. Liquid Motrin may help in the short term.

    3 weeks Post-op, Hungry?

I ate pretty normally after I got banded. I focused on healing first and diet later. It's hard to live like your band is working when it's not yet. Don't get discouraged. If I gave you a car and told you to drive it somewhere you would look at me like I was crazy if it didn't have gas in it yet. You have the car now you need to get some gas to start your journey. Good luck!

    Confused

Yeah. Each doctor's regime is different. They should have provided you with literature to guide you.

    Back on the Wagon

The great thing is you've already had the surgery so that hurdle is over with. I too am just now finishing up my degree so I know how difficult that can be with juggling kids and a work life. Get some fluid in your band and jumpstart your journey again. Good luck!

    APPROVED

You're more patient than I would have been. BAND ME NOW BAND ME NOW is what I would have been chanting. Lol. Never give insurance companies a chance to change their mind!

    How soon is too soon?

Honestly it's hard to say with that little bit of information. I don't want to tell you to stick it out if you're suffering or are having major problems. I've honestly never heard of anyone being in the hospital for five days after lapband surgery. I was in and out in less than a few hours total. I could walk around just fine with some pain meds and even drove the next day even though I wasn't supposed to...it was valentine's day...so sue me. I'm sorry you are going through this and I wish you the best of luck. Stick it out if you can but you shouldn't have to suffer. Have your doctor's other patients suffered like this or are you having unique complications? Pain and nausea is pretty normal for the first few days but by a week you should be feeling much better. Are you only doing liquids right now? Again, more information might help with more educated responses. Good luck!

    How do you know...

No matter how long you've had your band it can still surprise you. Lol. Especially when you get a fill. Getting a fill is like playing a whole new ball game and you have to learn the new rules to be be successful.

Heart burn no matter what I eat

Something to consider about prilosec is that it does take a few days to build up. I've been taking it daily for over 3 years without issue. If I stop taking it for just a couple of days the heartburn comes back. I'm not sure why I have the heartburn because even Water causes it...but the daily prilosec fixes it for me. I hope it works for you as well!

    Chips & cheese

I can eat them fine but they are considered a slider because they go through the band sooooo easy in some cases.

    Headed to Hospital

    How do you know...

Sometimes it can just be painful as it goes through the stoma and then the pain desists. If it stays painful and you start salivating like crazy then you are probably stuck. Even though something makes it through the stoma, if it causes pain while it goes down it can still cause you to swell up making you very tight. That's something to consider for your next bite or your next meal. Sometimes there are just certain foods that just hurt and I recommend avoiding them.

    Mederma??

Don't use mederma too fast! Let the incisions heal on their own first then use the mederma. I tried using mederma way to early and I think it made the scars look worse. That's just my experience. This is from the Livestrong website: Monitor new scars; you shouldn't apply Mederma products to the wound until it's healed and any sutures have been removed. You can begin using Mederma on old scars right away.

    Protein bars

These were my favorite and no, I don't get a kickback. Lol. http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/pre/titan.html

To "eat" or not to "eat"?

The last thing you want to do now that you are banded is dehydrate. LOTS AND LOTS OF FLUIDS

    Question about exercise

Ab machine would be the LAST exercise I would start back up. I started exercising in general about two weeks after surgery. I'd recommend cardio first then work in weight training.

    Success after Lap Band Removal?

I've known many people that have either had their bands out or all of their fluid out in hopes they could maintain on their own. I've never known any of them to keep the weight off. The only ones I've seen be successful were either rebanded, got a different WLS, or had their fluid put back in. Sorry I know I couldn't do it on my own.

    Possible sinus flare up

My doctor allows NSAID's in liquid form.

Curious about calories in, calories out

I actually do great on beef jerky. It's high in protein. Sure, it may be high in sodium so you might retain more water but that's not really 'gaining weight' in my opinion. I don't go out of my way to consume salt but I don't avoid it either. I think beef jerky is a really good snack personally.

Frequent air travel with lap band

I've flown around 10 times since being banded and I've never had a problem. The cabin pressure could tighten up your band but won't hurt it. I agree that talking to a doctor would be a good idea but it shouldn't be too much of a big deal.
  24. 1) If you pay you get banded. No BMI or comorbidities factor in. 2) Generally if insurance says no then no. With my surgery it was all inclusive with the self pay and there were no tests prior to surgery. 3) I did not stay overnight and that is unusual in my doctor's practice.

Curious about calories in, calories out

My doc said that calories in calories out makes a lot more sense for people that are 125lbs. However, to an overweight person, a glass of orange juice is the same thing as a candy bar to their body and should be avoided.
