What do you do when you are craving low fat ice cream?
GuyMontag replied to sherrintxs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Did you see they recently did a study that found a difference in the body chemistry of 'rich' people and 'poor' people? The currently theory is that poor people eat more from a can and less 'real' food which leaves more chemicals in their system. Yuck! -
It's crap like that that drives our insurance rates up
-
Better safe than sorry. It could just be a dilated pouch but either way you'll want your doc to check it out.

day4 post-op on liquid diet and lost 1 lb :(
GuyMontag replied to Lorettanjgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just worry about healing right now and not about weight loss. You'll see more loss when you get fills and start feeling restriction. -

Just remember that low-fat ice cream is still sugar loaded ice cream. Lol. -
Kim is right, it can take a few days or even up to a week to really feel a fill. However, as you're losing weight your stomach becomes leaner and the band gets looser so you could just be dealing with that as well. Just keep getting fills and you should be fine!

Good for you. It's amazing how much stress can build up because of the thought of the first fill and afterwards we're all, seriously?!? That's it? Lol. Easy peasy.

Green Zone - 8.2cc in my 10cc band Ideas?
GuyMontag replied to toritz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have over 14cc in my 14cc band. Some people just need more. -
That's the problem with getting a little too tight is that it can turn into a snowball effect. If you notice bringing food back up I'd recommend taking some liquid motrin and immediately going on liquids to let the swelling go down. If you don't it starts to get worse and worse until you need some Fluid out. Also, whenever you are especially tight it can help to take in lots of fluids to rehydrate your body. You can be in the green zone one day and be miserable the next just from not taking in enough liquids.
-
Yeah. You sound too tight right now. You could try some liquid motrin to help you out right now. Personally, I skip breakfast and drink coffee until lunchtime to allow my band time to 'open up.'

I didn't have it either. They did tell me to do the deep breath thing that Hazel mentioned.

Need to have my band removed :(
GuyMontag replied to Elliemayclem's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
NVM. I found this online: "Dumping" after gastric bypass surgery is characterized by nausea, sometimes vomiting and abdominal pain. Most often it is caused by taking in too much sugar in a short time. (Which is why lap band people can get away with drinking milkshakes and things like that, even in small amounts. A small amount of a milkshake would cause a gastric bypass person to "dump" and be terribly sick - which is one way to develop an aversion to whatever caused the dumping, for sure!) I haven't come across anyone who hasn't dumped, eventually. When you are newly post op, you pretty much stick to "safe" foods, but as time goes by, you get a little bolder and decide to see if "just a bite or two won't hurt" and find out that sometimes that little bit can really cause a problem. Some people dump on high fat items. I had an experience about 6-7 months after surgery where I tried ONE BITE of a sausage - a sample at a grocery store, and by the time I got out of the store and home, I was on the couch in pain! I have not eaten sausage since that day. Different foods will cause different people to dump. The best way to avoid it is to stick to a sensible balanced diet. -

What exactly is dumping? I've heard that term and I'm unfamiliar with it. Thanks! -
I'm almost never 5-6 hours satiated. Usually around 4 for me and I stretch it longer if I can.

Can the Liver Shrinking Pre-op Diet cause Pain?
GuyMontag replied to bsellis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Better safe than sorry. Glad you checked it out. -
Now the fun begins! Good luck!
-
At most I have three. I tend to not eat until around lunch, then in the evening, and finally a small snack or meal around 9pm. I almost never eat more than three times and sometimes not even that. If you're that hungry that often you might consider getting more fluid or look at what you're eating. If I eat lots of carbs or things like cereal then I get hungrier faster.
-
I had one call it 'cheating' and I was like I'd rather be a thin cheater than a fat winner like you! Zing!
-
You weigh 106lbs?!? Yowzers...I'd get some fluid out.

Yeah...kidney stones or gall bladder? Definitely not a normal part of the pre-op diet though. -
Almost Died with the Lap-Band!
GuyMontag replied to atroglet's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just curious, did you have a pre-op diet to shrink your liver? How much weight did you lose pre-op if you had one? Thanks. -
I only had to wait 2 weeks and the wait nearly drove me mad. Lol. Just keep yourself occupied like you're doing. Good luck! PS - A good trick to make yourself slow down is to put your utensil down between each bite and don't get your next bite ready before you've even swallowed your previous one.
-
That sounds like a typical dilated pouch. Hopefully you can just get some fluid out and go on liquids for a bit and get her back in tip top shape. Good for you for getting help from the doc. Some people wait way too long to seek assistance. Good luck!

Over 14cc in a 14cc band. Keep fillin'er up!

First full day after surgery, what are you intaking?
GuyMontag replied to cnotche's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chocolate Boost with protein...tastes like chocolate milk and lots of G2 (low-cal Gatorade). Also, lots of hot stuff like beef and chicken broth.
