How long does Restriction last?
fhce13 replied to mysticmind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what you experienced is not restriction. You had a "stuck" episisode along with sliming brought on by eating to much and probley to fast. "Restriction" is feeling full after eating small quanities of the proper food. Stuck is geberally brought on by not chewing well, eating the wrong foods and over eating. There is a big difference between the two. -
I use an ice tea spoon when I eat. Not as embarassing as using a baby spoon. I'll keep it in my pocket book to use when i'm out

Surgeries after the band...
fhce13 replied to emjay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard laying down causes the tighter feeling. This is why many of us are tight in the morning. I would imagine there was laying down and rest involved with your recent surgery -

I agree with all of the above bandsters insight, except, getting stuck hurts like hell!!! It is one of the most painful experiences. But you will survive it and learn from it -
Four weeks Post-op and able to EAT! Not good!
fhce13 replied to LAURIE290's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
other then be patient, there is not much you can do other then what you are doing at this stage. This is a process, not a quick fix. We all went into this knowing the basics of how the process works. I lost almost 40 lbs the first 6 weeks, then gained a few. I've had 2 fills for a total of 5.6 in my 10. band and only have minimum restriction. I'll continue to do the best I can knowing that restriction will come eventually. I was banded 12-21-09. -
Would appreciate some assistance please.

Your doctor will know where your port is. He put it in after all. I had to switch doctors and my new doctor was able to find my port with little trouble. Restriction will take a few fills. I have 5.6 in my 10. band and have minimal restriction. This is a process, not a quick fix. Slow down and enjoy the ride. -
Being Social - Does anyone struggle with this?
fhce13 replied to LadyA76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As the previous responder said, you will find out it's not as big of an issue as time goes on. Most people do not pay attention to what you or others eat at a party. In time you will be able to eat "regular" food in more modest quanities. -

We are all different. Our Drs. are all different. This is a process not a quick fix. We all chose to do this. Please be patient and the weight will come off. -
At 16 days I could eat anything, I just got my 2nd fill, for a total of 5.6cc and still don't have much restriction.

Dr. suddenly quits practice, did not notify me!
fhce13 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get a load of this. I had my surgery on Dec 21, 2009. I have had only 1 fill so far. It takes at least a month ahead of time to get any appointments with this Dr.. I go for my 1:30 appointment today, that I scheduled right after my only fill, 5 weeks ago. It takes me an hour and a half to get there. I sign in and take a seat. The receptionist calls me up and tells me Dr. Patel suddenly left the practice a few weeks ago. She said I'm surprised no one called you. I was livid to say the least. She could not tell me where he was, just gave me the phone # of the hospital he is associated with. I am so mad and I'm not sure how to handle this.:frown: -

Anyone miss being able to drink with meals?
fhce13 replied to AnneGG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find it hard not to drink water or tea or even milk with my food. I usually have a sip or two. So far I have not had trouble meeting my water requirement. But I have not reached restriction yet. I have 4.6 in a 10. band. -
can someone explain "stuck" to me?
fhce13 replied to coilygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stuck is when you take to big of a bite and/or do not chew your food thoroughly. Yes the food gets stuck in the opening between your stoma and stomach (where the band is). Imagine trying to shove a doughy peice of bread or an unchewed lump of broccoli through a hole the size of the tip of your finger. The sliming is your bodies reaction to this food getting stuck. Your mouth and throat produce a thick mucas in response to the food getting stuck to try to help the food pass. The feeling you get with food being stuck is a terrible pain between your breast that can last from a minute up to several hours. Please chew all food well, take small bites and listen to your doctor. Also do not try to drink when food is stuck. It does not help and only makes the pain worse. Good Luck. -
It took a while but...

Getting Scared and a little Sad
fhce13 replied to MissMelissa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have only been banded 1 1/2 months and you have already lost 23 lbs. You are doing great. As many people say in this forum, 1: we are all different 2: the band is not a quick cure. It takes time, patences, and work on our part (and fills from the doctor) to reach our goals. You don't say what size your band is or how much you have in it. I have had only 1 fill of 4.6 in a 10. band. I can't eat as much as pre-banding, but I am far from my sweet spot. Just do your best and continue to see your doctor as needed. You will get there!! -
Do you have a goal prize?
fhce13 replied to mominkansas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The diamond eternity band to celebrate your band is such a neat idea. I honestly had not thought of a gift for myself to celebrate reaching my goal. I will have to think about it. -
Went for a fill today - but he wouldn't give me one!
fhce13 replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I"ve been banded almost three months now. I drink a protein shake most mornings. I hope to continue doing so untill I finish losing weight. There is no way I could get the protein I need otherwise. The shake powder mixed with skim milk gives me almost 30 grams of protein. -
What was the most surprising thing about your lap-band surgery or the "journey" you have been on??? I think all of us have had a surprise or two along the way (good or bad). Mine was having 5 incisions and the port incision being as big as it is. When I had my gallbladder removed there was only 3 tiny incisions and I assumed it would be the same for the Lap-band surgery.
-
It took me about a month to stop being fairly tender around my port. My surgery was on 12/21/09. I still have intermitten tenderness around my port.

Has anyone ever truely stretched there pouch? Did the doctor diagnose it and what was done to fix it??
-
I definatly have days where I am just hungrier then other days. And yes exercising can increase your appetite. 4.2 in a 14. band does not seem like an awful lot, but as you know we are all different. I have only had 1 fill so far, 4.6 in a 10. band, I can't eat as much as pre-banding, but I know I have not hit my sweet spot yet either. Anyway you are doing great
-
Some times when I eat I get this terrible pain, sort of between my breast but a little lower. It will last about 30 seconds or so, then go away. If I drink anything during the pain the pain gets worse. Is this getting "stuck"??
