sunshine, so did you have your surgery? what's going on with you? -
stephanie, its great to hear that you are doing okay. Isn't it just one big sigh of relief once you wake up. You feel like okay now here we go. Now its time to go to work. I have pain meds and i've been taking them every 4hrs. I debating wether or not i'm going to start cutting down on them. My doctor put in this lovely thing they call a "numb ball". Anyone else hear of this. Its a ball full of local anesthetic and it has a cathater that they insert into the port incision and they take it all up. It just numbs that area for about 4 days while i heal. So my port isn't very uncomfortable at all. I have a tough time getting off the couch or getting out of bed but the hubby helps alot. Going to the bathroom is interesting. It wasn't anything i was worried about but it isn't very easy for me right now. I've only had water and 1 popsicle so far since surgery. I don't feel the urge to eat. So everything is going alot better than i thought it would. I'm hear if any of the soon to be banded have any questions. Private message me if you would like.

Hey Randi. Dr Seger is still the new guy there. but he has been a general surgeon for awhile now. I just felt comfortable with him. As far as the dr being in network but the clinic not. That is a hard one to figure out. I had the same experience. Usually the reason is the doctor is not only a lap band surgeon but also a general surgeon. He's in network if you need general surgery but as far as the lapband he is not contracted with the insurance company to do that. The insurance companies really aren't that much help. If you call the clinics they usually know or can find out. The surgeon will also have a tax id number for general surgery and another for the lap band. You can get the lap band tax id number then check with the insurance company. -
I'm job hunting while healing. Crazy isn't it. So any ideas? who loves thier job? I want to love my job. Thats not alot to ask. Is it?

:update: :update: :update: :update: :clap2:Okay, I'm home and doing well. I was banded yesterday. I was wheeled to the operating room at 2pm and woke up at 4pm and was on my way home at 5pm. I wanted to post last night but was just really tired and uncomfortable. :notagree I wouldn't say its painful just uncomfortable. The pain meds help alot I think. I can't say for sure because i'm afraid to not take them. :nervous So i'm here for everyone waiting for their date. If you have any questions just ask. I'm going to try to get online at least once a day. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE GETTING BANDED TODAY!!! I realized the whole thing was alot less scarey than i thought it was going to be. I was real nervous the whole time and next thing i know i'm already waking up. I've only had water and ice since yesterday. I don't feel hungary at all. Even though I feel like i should be eating to eat but i keep telling myself that i'm not hungary. Its alot easier to not think about food. It's a great feeling.

Kelly B, My doctor didn't ask me to do a pre opt diet. All he ask is for me to lose 5lbs. I tried to go on a liquid diet yesterday. I made it thru the whole day then i gave out and had a weight watchers dinner. I wish you all the best going thru your liquid diet. I know now that it isn't easy. So just stick to it. -
wow stephanie. sounds like you're doing great. i only have about 3 more days till my surgery date. I just now decided to try to stick to some kind of diet. I wonder if three days is really going to make a difference. I decided to eat as little as possible till my surgery. Hope that helps some.

hey Randi. When i first went to the seminar they were not in my network. They recently became in network with United Healthcare, that's who i'm with. It took awhile for the whole process. About 2 1/2 months. I chose the doctor i felt most comfortable with. Dr. Seger is the one i chose. He's easy for me to talk to and he's very straight forward with all of his answers. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated about my whole process. I have only Today and 3 more days till my surgery date. I get more and more nervous everyday. -
I would like to know what everyone would like to get from this post. I enjoy pictures. I plan to post lots and lots of pictures. I think visuals help us better understand what everyone is going thru. I would also like to hear about the good and the bad. What was the one thing that you would change about your surgery experience? I think this will help the ones having surgery later in the month. So what would everyone else like to see on our GREAT post?

thank you for that thread. everything helps at this point

How to check on Doctors in Mexico?
July5forMe replied to tribon's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I'm having my surgery Texas but just by reading all the posts you can kind of get an idea of doctors in mexico that are really popular. Alot of people have only had good things to say about the doctors in mexico. If you just ask someone that you see that has had thier surgery in mexico they will give you the doctors website address. I've seen a few people post those. -
ooooh! pre opt diet talk. I've been looking for a thread like this. My doctor didn't suggest a preopt diet. He did ask me to lose 5lbs. So far i'm only down 2lbs. I have to admit thought that i haven't really been trying. Its just really really hard for me. Mr Yo, I've always told myself i'd go on a preopt liquid diet a week before surgery but here i am acting like i don't have surgery on the 5th. I don't know what kind of advice to give. I hope you can do it. I hope i can do it. We just need to discipline ourselves.
-
Its hard to admit that you may be hurting yourself. Believe me i understand. But once you come out and say it you can start helping yourself. I found telling my husband has the first step. I told him i need him to help me in a positive way by reminding me what i want to accomplish and what i'm doing is for me. I told him to never tell me anything negative because i over react when i think i'm being attacked. I felt i had to tell him because he was the one i was mostly hiding my eating from. Its hard to hide from someone if they know what's going on. It helped a lot. But you also need support from people on this forum who can relate. There's no way to describe knowing that you aren't the only one. That other people have gone thru the same thing and over came it. I wish you luck and I know you will do what is best for you. After all you did go thru the whole process just to get the lap band.

I've never had surgery before either, Leona. I guess that kind of adds to our nervousness. Wow. I'm glad there are alot of us 20 something that are having this done. I felt kind of unsure having this done because everytime I've read about weight loss surgery I never see alot of younger people. I felt maybe i was jumping into things being so young and all. (even though i feel alot older) I'm also worried about my life socially. I still have some what of a social life. I go out with friends now and then. We always go out to eat or drink most of the time. I don't want to stop hanging out with my friends but i don't know if it will be as fun without all the food and drinks. I guess I'm just babbling now.

I would just like to encourage people to post more pictures of their scars at any stage because it does help us newbies with all the unknown we face. I will be posting my scars proudly as soon as i get home after my surgery.

I will be having my surgery done in San Antonio, Texas. I'm going to go out and do all of my shopping today. I don't know what to buy and i don't know what to pack for the hospital. I"m expected to leave that night so I wouldn't think I would need much. I think i'll just be numb to the all thing also until it actually happens. I really don't know what else to say til that day. I'm just so afraid about how its going to change my life. Health wise i know its going to be good for me. So many things in life revolve around food, i just wonder how things are going to go socially.
