Experienced Bandsters, what are your tricks of the trade?
July5forMe replied to ChicagoCoco's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
tellymelly, my surgery day was on july 5. So i'm not even a week post op yet. I feel pretty good. stomach feels sore and the port incision is just a little more tender than the rest. just a sharp sting every now and then but its all manageable. I'll check out the exercise today thread. that would be cool to see what everyone is doing after getting banded. -
good luck to all those getting banded. I'm doing good still. i've been leaving the house every now and then. its just keeps getting better and better. so i'm just still healing. nothing eventful going on today.

Experienced Bandsters, what are your tricks of the trade?
July5forMe replied to ChicagoCoco's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
tellymelly, i see your posts on the before and after thread. everything you are doing is surely working. you are looking fabulous. please keep posting what you are doing. you seem to be exercising alot. how soon after your surgery did you feel 100%? I've just started going for small walks and they do make me feel real good. -
mdg, my doctor saves the yogurt and cottage cheese until 2wks after your surgery. but every doctor is dfferent. bigGirlpantiez, I see a successful surgery in your future and i see the same beautiful person you are now just thinner. I know you will do great since i'm already banded i can't wait to play big sis to all the newly banded. LOL Timetoloveme, I also think some of the weight may come back but i'm going to try my hardest to keep eating right so that all of it doesn't come back. i'm 5'3 and was 265 the day of my surgery. this morning i weighed in at 249.5. I'm so excited to see it come off. I don't remember the last time i ever so a scale go down except for when those electric ones run low on batteries.
-
i was also banded on the 5th. Anyone else feel like taking a deep breathe is difficult? just curious if this is normal.
-
i don't know if your doctor allows it but my doctor only allowed tylenol pre opt so that helped when it was bad. but you're doing great! the headaches makes it known that you are working hard and it is working. KEEP IT UP!
-
paula, i'm glad to hear that i am not the only feeling fuzzy. I'm such a worrier. A big worrier. so i get a little dizzy or tingley i start thinking of all these terrible things that could be happening to be. i'm pretty confident now that everything is going okay. so i'm glad we are all just talking about our worries. it helps alot to hear i'm not the only one going thru something.
-
biggirlpantiez, i got headaches too when i made my attempt on a pre opt diet. My doctor didn't tell me what i could eat or not eat he just told me to lose 5lbs. I remember those headaches though. You just need to remember that everytime you get one of those headaches its because you are getting all the bad stuff out of your body. Body is doing what it can to make you give it what it wants. Usually surgar. So stay tough. the headaches will go away soon. then it will be easier from then on.

recently banded as well. feeling good. everyone here is very welcoming and have alot of good advise.

wow. great thread. lots of ideas. this is going to help me alot. thanks again. -
chuckle, walking does help alot. i haven't taken any gas x so i don't know about how that works personally. when i first start walking its a little uncomfortable but the more you walk the better you feel. eventually you can walk pretty normal.

:biggrin1: hello again. well woke up this morning feeling better. today was the first time i was able to get out of bed by myself. it was an accomplishment. i think i'm done with the pain meds. don't think i'm going to take them anymore. i did feel a little hungary this morning. I had the carnation instant breakfast. its pretty good. i only drank a little and i think it did the trick. i think the impatient feelings are setting in. :bored I'm getting bored with the whole healing thing. I'm ready to get up and move around and just start doing things. my husbands been great but he's no cleaning and cooking king. i plan to go for walk today. i've been walking around the house as much as possible but i'm actually going to head outside. i'm hoping if i walk today and tomorrow. I'll be feeling pretty good by monday. I have my first post op appointment on the 21st so i'm not even planning to go back to work until maybe the 24th which i'm optimistic about. I think i'll be more than ready to go back by then. i'm job hunting while on my leave. i would like to have a better job too. i just want to say to everyone waiting for surgery....don't worry. its alot easier than i thought. I was a worryer. I kept thinking of backing out even as they were pushing me to the operating room. Then you wake up and its all over. I considered the operation the hard part and i think its all easy from hear. i think i was scared of the operation more than the not eating the usual stuff. i don't even feel like i have anything around me stomach besides the slight ache from the incisions i really don't feel any different. i've been drinking fine. i'll try soup one day just not sure when. dr says there will be no problem with me having soup but i'm just going to hold out as long as i can. My doctors assistant even said that in 2 weeks i might be down 20lbs. WOW! 20lbs. If that doesn't motivate me i don't know what will. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU :gluck: I'M SURE YOU WILL ALL DO JUST FINE. when all is said and done you will go back to all your old posts and laugh because you would have realized that you had nothing to worry about. :scared:

~*~How about Austin, Texas?~*~
July5forMe replied to moon goddess's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
hey moon goddess. It went pretty well. I was really nervous and scared that whole day. I've never had surgery before so i was just worrying and worrying about what might go wrong. Once they put you out its like no time passes and all of a sudden you are being woken up. That was odd. before i knew it i was banded and waking up in recovery. the pain right after waking up wasn't really bad. Its just a matter of getting all of your thoughts together and realizing what you just did. After that the nurses will give you pain meds if you need it and that stuff worked very quickly for me. I'm feeling pretty good today. I woke up this morning and i could tell that some of the swelling had already gone down. I'm just concentrating on drinking water. I've had a few popsicles but other than that just water. I can't believe i thought that the whole thing was going to be so painful and hard for me to handle. Its alot easier than i could of imagined it being. -
Just checking in with everyone. I really don't have much to update on. As everyone knows i had my surgery on the 5th. Pain is alot more manageable. I didn't take any pain meds today. I'll let everyone know how i feel in the morning.

~*~How about Austin, Texas?~*~
July5forMe replied to moon goddess's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
no Randi i don't know the exact number of lapband procedures that he has done. He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, Bexar County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery. He's only been with the clinic for about a year. But his past experiences are in laproscopic procedures. He is known for being able to perform procedures with little or no invasive incisions. I felt he would provide me with the best experience and an easier healing period. -
aaah. Just woke up. I think i feel alot better. I can tell that some of he swelling has gone down. There really wasn't much pain when being helped out of bed. I'm still having ALOT of girgling and rumbling in my tummy. I don't think its hunger. I'm still just drinking and having an occasional popsicle. ubermom, I have a 5 year old. I think preparing him was the best thing i could do. I would just let him know that i was going to have my stomach fixed. He was excited about taking care of me. The best thing i could suggest is to put alot of the stuff you might need in easy reach so the younger ones can help out. I would hope the older children will be alot of help for you. You shouldn't worry though. the pain is going away fast and i think its just an uncomfortable feeling than an actual pain. I can walk about pretty good and do things for me son that he can't do for himself.
