Has Anyone Cheated On Their Post-Op Diet?
Dawn replied to cbchebert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally can't even think of cheating, just the thought HURTS! LOL I'm on clear liquids and am NOT hungry at all! I have had some "cravings or head hunger" but the thought of actual food going into my tummy really scares me! LOL -
I am newly sleeved and still on clear liquids so it's not hard right now! LOL BUT, my trigger foods have always been Chocolate and Ice Cream! My plan is not to have them in my house PERIOD so that I'm not tempted!!

Could I drink too many calories during full liquid?
Dawn replied to AmMatthew's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW, that just seems like so much to me! LOL My swallow test was SUPER SUPER SLOW (slowest my doc has seen ) so I'm on pretty tiny sips!!! -
My gas has been OUT OF CONTROL the past two days and I'm in PAIN from it! So in my other thread it was mentioned to use Maalox Maximum Relief. Well sent DH to the store and of course he didn't come home with that He brought home Mylanta Maximum Strength. Do you think that would be okay to use?

I wonder if it would work without putting the sause on it? I LOVE brisket and pulled pork with spice rubs and I always order mine without sause (don't like BBQ sause)! I take a pork tenderloin and put Adobo and Sazon and Garlic Salt on it and let it cook all day in the slow cooker and the shred it and put it on french bread and make grill!!! I love that meat I would totally just eat it by itself too!!!

29 Years Old & Getting the Sleeve
Dawn replied to Secret Surgery 34's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I totally understand it being a very personal decision to make and best of luck to you!!! I choose to tell people! I am actually keeping a blog on it and putting it on Facebook and it has sparked A LOT of great Support and questions and I'm all about educating others!! A few friends contacted me in private to really talk about it because they always felt so ashmand to think about doing it but since I've been so open with them they are really considering it now!!! I have a good friend that had RNY and she didn't tell most people. When asked how she lost the weight she would tell them she stopped going out to eat, started walking more and eating right!!! -
I was also just sleeved on the 15th!! My pre-op was NUT (2 appointment) Labs Psych eval EKG - internal med doc Chest X-ray (dh also had to have gallballder ultrasound, I've had mine out!) Pulmanary Test Support Group EDG

Yeah it was all good! They just took blood that morning and everything went as planned!!!
-
I was supposed to go to the lab on Friday and get my blood drawn for a pregnancy test and I totally forgot!!! I was dealing with my DH in the hosptial that day and work and kid and UGH! Surgery is tomorrow, I have to report at 530am and I hope they will just do the test then? Also, I'm on my freaking period and my husband has been fixed for years, I AM NOT PG!!! LOL I remember when I had my gallbladder out they did the PG test right before surgery so I hope they will here too! I can't put this off to a later time, too much going on right now I'm so mad at myself!

Dawn replied to zuby1124's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HORRIBLE gas pains and thats it! -
Thanks! The only thing I could try is the Maalox Max Relief maybe instead of Gas-X! As for anything else, I'm not doing it! I'm still on clear fluids until I see the doc on Monday and I'm taking NO pills yet!
-
I am not passing gas regularly. Only time I go I also have a BM which today I had two and everyother day I have only had one! See that is SO crazy, I had NO gas pains from my gallbladder surgery!! Shoot, I hope its tomorrow I wake up and it's gone! LOL Okay, I can dream, I know it'll be at least a few more days if not another week or so! Since Thursday I have been doing 60cc of usually Water some tea every hour I'm awake and today I maybe took in 4-5oz all day because I'm hurting so bad and SO tight tonight!

I am only 6 days out and I can say that FEAR is what keeps me on track with the diet (and some pain still! LOL) I just know me though and the fear of it hurting, vomitting or gaining weight is going to be my motivating factor!! I did not just go through all this to gain weight again!!!!! -
Small tug on drain, no pain, but some blood on shirt
Dawn replied to AmMatthew's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My drain started to leak and SOAK the gause under it just after I came home on Thursday so I gave it until Friday early afternoon and called the doc. She said that as long as it's still draining and not turning colors or smelling that it's fine. I have to change my dressing twice a day because it gets so yucky but my doc isn't worried about it! Good Luck! -

I totally have the gas pains in my left shoulder! Have since day 1 It sucks! LOL I haven't taken anything for a BM, had my first one the day after surgery and have had one everyday since! I am still on Clear Liquids since my swallow study showed I was SUPER Swollen and I was draining into my banana SUPER Slow but I am doing 60cc a hour of either water, hot tea or I'll eat a popscile! I think I can handle a little bit more so I'm going to try and bump it up to 75cc a hour today and see how it goes! Once I finally fall asleep I'm OUT! But it's the getting to sleep part! It's like I have to become over exhusted first! I am not taking any Vitamins or any of my normal pills right now again because I was so swollen! -
Bummer, I actally just moved from a tropical island to New York! LOL Lived in Hawaii for the last three years!! I wish I was still there! As for Wendy's chili, I don't like it I am such a pickey eater but with all the talk about taste changing I am going to keep an open mind and keep trying new foods and hopefully my taste will change!!! I do like my OWN chili though! LOL
-
I'm really curious as to the pain that everyone talks of? Are you talking tummy muscle sore or gas pains or something else? I haven't experienced any pain except for gas pains (which my tummy rumbles some too and I'm sure it's gas) and the gas HURTS at times! I burp A LOT because I'm not one to "pass gas"! hehe The first night in the hospital they kept telling me just wait, everyday you will feel better and of course right then I was like yeah right whatever! LOL But really it is true, each day I have felt better and better!!! Even started working again (from home of course) as soon as I was out of the hospital! LOL
-
I can't really say for sure because I am on clear liquids only until I go in on Monday and then hopefully I'll start full liquids but I would think that adding protein powder to soup/cream of wheat might help you stay fuller longer! As for docs being different, it is a little annoying because each person is different so I would say to just be totally open and honest with your doc and NUT and maybe you'll progress faster then others!? We all heal different! I know me and my body and I'm pretty sure I'll be the slow one and need extra time at each step (which is already shown since I'm still on clear instead of full)!!

Dawn replied to steeler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am dredding getting my jp out I had a breast reduction a few years ago and I had two drains and they pulled them out before I left the hospital and it hurt like no other and I was even on pain meds then! -
in pain when does it stop?
Dawn replied to steeler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's so crazy the differences there are from each of us! I have no pain and haven't had expect for Gas Pains and those are a PITA!!! LOL Also, no where near constipated, actually the oppisite! How much are each of you drinking an hour? I can do 60cc of water with no problems in an hour now and think by tomorrow I might shoot for more! I was getting a headache today so I tried the liquid tylenol they sent me home with and nope, tummy doesn't like that, I got one small sip and my felt icky! LOL I can say that as everyday as gone on I have felt better and better! I too get my drain out on Monday and I can't wait! This thing is annoying! -

I'm Here! Was sleeved on the 15th and am doing pretty good! Been home now for just over 24 hours! I haven't really had any actual pain but have had Gas pains! UGH! Those are killing me today! I got up and out and about today and walked around the mall a bit and went and saw Harry Potter! Sitting in the theater was a little uncomfortable and I had to move around in my seat a lot and I was trying to keep my burping quiet! LOL I am sip sip sipping my water, doing a little hot tea here and there and a SF popsicle once a day also! I am on clear fluids only since my swallow study was hard (I was VERY swollen and it was VERY slow going down into my new tummy)! I love that there are a few of us going through this at the exact same time!!! -
It's really interesting to see what ya'll eat when you go out! I have thought of this a lot but I know DH and I won't be going out to eat for some time since I am 5 days out and he is 10 day pre-surgery! We might still have to grab something here and there for our daughter but I don't see either of us eating out for awhile! LOL We are traveling at Christmas and I can see me possibly stopping by Wendy's for a baked potato and at that point DH might still be on liquids so we'll stop for milk for a protein drink! LOL
-
WOW, sounds Awesome!! I too was sleeved on the 15th and am doing alright! Still A LOT of gas pains and this dang drain is annoying me!
-
Sounds like the pain I had when I drank too much on day 2! I am now 5 days post-op and I am still like "WOW, I can't believe how little I can drink and feel "full" off of!!" It really is going to be a HUGH adjustment! I am glad you figured out how to make it work for you now!!

Okay so here's my story! I got to the hospital at 0530 on Monday morning and got checked in. Was put in a gown and got an IV started. From there we went down to the surgery pre-op where I waited and waited! They came in and drew some blood then I had to give a urine sample as well! So finally the doc comes in and we chat for a few mins about everything and I tell her I'm ready to go! When they finally came and gave me some meds through my IV I had been laying in bed in the pre-op area for 2 hours!!! I drifted off and don't remember a thing until I woke up in recovery! When waking up there was some pain but I know now that it wasn't pain from surgery it was gas pain from all the air they put in me! I got some good drugs though and the wheeled me up to my room! Shane was there for just a little bit before he had to go get Paxton but it was nice to see his face! I was still just really out of it and would wake for brief moments while they were taking my temp, blood pressure and so on. Later that night they wanted me to stand up and move around! I KNEW this was going to be BAD, it always is with me the first time getting up! So I get sat up on the edge of the bed and I was telling the nurse I was dizzy and nauseous but he insisted I stand up! WOAH, that did it, I was drenched in sweat right away and started to topple over!! They put me back in bed! THANK YOU! I told you it wasn't time for me to be up yet! LOL About midnight the overnight nurse thought we should try it again and this time wasn't as bad. Still a little light headed and nauseous but not as bad and I was able to sit up in the chair for a big and brush my teeth! At this point thought my temp was really starting to rise and that worried them a bit so back in bed I go! Around 2am my temp reached 102 so they tried to have me drink some liquid Tylenol! UGH! NOT GOOD! I got two VERY SMALL sips off it and totally felt like vomiting! They ended up giving me more meds and more fluids through the IV to see if they would help! By Tuesday morning, I was totally feeling better but still not great by no means. I got out of bed a few more times to go walk around the halls since the HORRIBLE gas pains were not letting up! There was like one big bubble that moved from right under my left breast up into my shoulder and back again (it's still there now too) and they say walking helps, so I walked as much as I could handle! Around 9am they came and took me down to do the swallow study to make sure there were no leaks! OMFG OUCH is all I can say!!!!!! I got in there and stood up on that dang machine and they gave me the huge cup of NASTY NASTY NASTINESS and made me take a "big" drink! Yuck for one, and OUCH for two! They said drink again, so another drink in and they are moving the thing around trying to see if the Fluid is going and OMG it hit me like a ton of bricks! PAIN PAIN PAIN!!!! The fluid wasn't draining so it was all just sitting right at the top of my stomach and not moving! That is seriously some of the worst pain I have ever felt! They quickly laid me and the table back and had me turn to each side and finally while on the left side they could see it starting to drain and the pain SLOWLY subsided! I SWEAR I will never eat or drink to fast because I NEVER want to feel that pain again! But all in all things were good, they didn't see anything leaks, but I was just really swollen and tight so they said it would be slow going for me. Tuesday night Shane brought Paxton up to see me which was nice! I missed my little girl! They also started me on drinking Water. 10cc a hour is what I needed to do and that was HARD! Picture 10cc of water? A tiny little medicine cup only filled about 1/4 of the way and I couldn't even drink that whole amount down in a hour?!?!?! CRAZY! Around 7pm my IV went bad so they took it out and I was thinking, GREAT, maybe I'll get to go home tomorrow, this is all good right? WRONG! By midnight I was so sick I was more nauseous then I have ever been. So they called the doc and she said, back on the IV I go! Of course, they had to stick me three times before they got one! Told them I was a hard stick! So they give me a different med which made me sleep! I was so thankful for that! So Wed. morning rolls around and still a little nauseous but not so bad. They really wanted me to focus on getting my water in, up to 60 cc (two med cups full) in an hour! By Wed. night I was able to accomplish this! YAY!!! I was also finally able to get up and shower on Wed. and walk around a lot more (still having the gas pains). Wed. night I was also able to have a popsicle!! It was cherry and OMG it was SO GOOD! LOL So I was off the IV and drinking my water and walking a lot! Got pretty sleepy early so off to bed I went! Slept pretty good expect for the temp checks and the heparin shots (btw those HURT and I have tiny little bruises all over my tummy from them)! Woke up this morning (Thursday) feeling pretty darn good (except of course the gas pains) and felt ready to come home! Walked, ate a popsicle and even had a little hot tea for breakfast! I liked the warm feeling going down! Again was able to shower and have them clean up the drain area with new tape and such. While doing so they showed me again how to empty the drain and I was missing a step the two times before and that might be why I have such gas pains today Might has got some air back in my tummy OUCH! But it's still nothing like what I'm sure it could be! I can totally handle my 60cc an hour and the doc said she still wants me on Clear fluids until I come see her on Monday! So it'll be water, tea, popsicles and broth throughout the weekend which right now is totally fine by me! I'm NOT hungry by no means! LOL So now I'm home and it sure does feel great to be in my own house! I have the chair all set up with pillows and my water and COMPUTER (gosh, I'm so addicted, I've missed my computer so much) and my puppy! (which totally wants on my lap but I won't let her)! Now I think I'll take a short nap and then get to doing some Work! I missed working That’s how much I LOVE my job and how totally depressed I am about losing it Oh I did step on the scale when I got home and thus far I have lost 4.2 lbs in the past 4 days! So after the pre-surgery diet and everything I am now at 227 lbs! Only 77lbs more to go! LOL
