does restriction actually start once you're on solids?
Dawn replied to peatie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am like some of the others and I can't drink that much and not that fast!! I am 5 weeks out and I still can't drink but a few sips, wait a few mins, then another few sips! It takes me at least like 2 hours to drink my 12oz Protein drink because it's thick and it's kind of in a lump in my tummy! For dinner I have been doing 1 oz of meat and about 2T of veggies and about 1t of a starch and just now can I actually finish all of that but it does take me 30-45 mins! I have had a lot of restriction since the begining though but I did notice a lot more once I was eating real food! -
I've Only Just Begun
Dawn replied to TheBestIsYetToCome's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a BIG decision to make and everyone has their "demons" we must deal with, with food but I can tell you of my expereince! It has been FANTASTIC thus far!! I am 5 weeks post-op and I feel GREAT! I haven't felt this great in a LONG time!! One thing that hasn't totally changed for me is the thinking about food BUT it has changed on HOW I think about food. It's on my mind a lot through out the day because I am trying to make sure I'm getting enough calories and Proteins, where as before I was always thinking about how much more food I could shove in me! LOL I had surgery on a Monday and was released from the hospital on Thur morning since I was so tight and wasn't able to drink on Tue so Wed was all about sip sip siping on water! Since I have been home it's actually been pretty darn easy! I went back to work at 1 week and also started going to the gym again that week as well! Before surgery the best thing I did was join here and read read read all sorts of back posts and also doing a lot of research on the surgery! I knew this was the answer for me because I didn't want something inside of me and I didn't want my intestines rerouted!! LOL Good Luck with your journey! -
You look Great!!!! That sweater is super cute!

Protein shakes!! They aren't always the easiest to get "down" but I make myself have at least one at a min. of 40g of protein a day! Most days it's my breakfast and lunch because I just can't stomach that much at once! I also eat at least one meat with dinner or I have eggs with cheese. My snacks are low fat cheese sticks with 5g of protein each and I can usually eat two for a snack!

Dawn replied to kymmi12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is really interesting about the Vit D and sweets!! I am also in NY and just had my labs done last week so I'm waiting to hear back from my doc on what I need (if any) to start taking! -
Can only drink 2oz
Dawn replied to futurefantastic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a month out and I can drink about 4-6 oz of my protein shake over a 30-45 min time frame and then after my workout I come back and drink the rest again over about an hour! Water I can drink better and more can go through but the protein shakes I make are thick! -
How long did you wait to work out after surgery?
Dawn replied to Becca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my 1 week post-op my doc said I could go back to the gym ASAP and to just take it at my own pace! At the begining of my 4th week I started to jog/walk on the treadmill and also light weights! -
I too was stalled pretty early on but for me what I think finally got me going again was really paying attention to my protein intake and once I was for sure getting at least 60g a day I started to lose again!! Good Luck!

What is normal weight loss within first 2-3 weeks
Dawn replied to 2muchfluff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just over 4 weeks post-op and I lost 15lbs the first week and then barely nothing for the next two weeks and finally the scale is moving again! I have to ask, How are you getting in 64oz of Water and 60g of Protein? I still can't intake that much. I do get my protein in with a shake but between food and water I still can't get in 64oz of water!!! -
So I went to dinner with my son tonight
Dawn replied to myrori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A big reason why I have chosen to not eat out anymore! I don't want to waste all that money on food that I won't eat! Most stuff I won't reheat at home so it's just not worth it! I LOVE to cook so I'll just make what I want at home!! Now I know there will be times where I will have to eat out (road trip coming up) but we have already planned that I'll just share my meal with either my DH or DD! Can I just say though GOOD JOB on the WL so far!! 60+lbs in Three Weeks!! WOW!!!!!!! -
Good Job!! I'm at 28lbs in 4 weeks!!!!
-
Do you know about any support groups they have in the DC area? I might be moving to Ft. Meade here shortly and would love to continue with a support group! My surgeon and NUT both said today that Walter Reed is a FANTASIC place for WLS!!

How did you decide goal weight?
Dawn replied to Cheryl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have set my goal weight to have me on the HIGH side of normal on the charts! I want to be 150 but I know at about 170 I feel pretty happy (or at least the last time I lost a lot of weight and was there I was) so we'll see!! -
Scale Finally Moved........
Dawn replied to cbchebert's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
YAY!!! I sent you a message about what has helped me to finally start moving! Do you know if anything specific that you've done to get it going? -
I have started to mix my multi in with my protein shake!!
-
At 4 weeks out I take nothing but a multi everyday and I actually throw it in with my Protein shakes so I can't taste it! LOL I get all my blood work done this week so we'll see where I'm sitting since surgery and if I need to be taking anything else!

Has anyone ever had a false positive pregnancy test?
Dawn replied to Gina A.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've always been told that a false positive is a rare thing? I sure hope they figure out what is going on! Is there a possibility that you are? -
My doc and NUT wanted me to just worry about Water for the first two weeks and then start in with the Protein and they wanted 40g. Now at 4 weeks I am at 60g which is right where they want me to be and by 6 months they want me at 75g! In all honesty I did not get anywhere near the 40g to start with! It wasn't until this past week that I really started to focus on my protein and everyday I have had at least 60g!!

Mimi is mine sleeve and she talks to us A LOT! LOL Sometimes she is loud and sometimes she isn't! LOL I'm never hungry either and have to "make" myself eat but I'm on a pretty good routine right now so I have everything timed out!

I don't get what "gas pains" are...?
Dawn replied to steph025's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only pain I had was gas pains! I had my gallbladder out a few years ago through my belly and had NO pains at all but this time I did, A LOT! LOL It's not like I was crying in pain but it was painful and I couldn't get comfortable. But everyday it got better and better and soon enough it was gone! -
This past week I have been eating meats (pulled pork, roast, swiss steak) that have been cooking in the crockpot all day so they pretty much fall apart and then I just chew chew chew them until they are mush and I've been doing great and I also started to lose again this past week!! I have also been eating cooked veggies and they too have been going good! I haven't done any breads or pastas and don't plan on it for while if I can help it! I also have done anything too "hard" like chips or anything! Good Luck!!
-
So after my very slow week 2 and 3 I have now hit week 4 exactly today since Surgery and I finally lost a good number!! 3 lbs this week!! WOOHOO!!! After having all you WONDERFUL people help me see what different I need to really look at in my food, I have got in at least 60g of Protein everyday this past week and I am still working on getting in all my Water but at least I've been able to keep it at 40g or more! Of course, it's TOM so I'm feeling bloated but I took my 1 month pics today and I can TOTALLY see a difference, esp. in my face! LOL YAY!! So now it's time to keep going! Going to be hitting the gym everyday and keeping my protein up! meet with my Doc and NUT this week also so we'll see if there is anything else I need to be doing! I feel GREAT thought!!

Dawn replied to lolli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW, thats crazy! I've been using PB since week 2 in my shakes (love me some chocolate PB shakes!) and I've never had a problem!!! -
I had gas pains there in the begining! I haven't had any in a while though. My full feeling hits me right between my breast at the bottom of my sternum. Good Luck I hope it goes away soon and it's nothing serious!
