    Full or stuck?

It's been my experience that it eventually WILL pass. It will either slowly and painfully work it's way down, or it will come back up. It usually takes 15 minutes or so for me, even though it can feel like a lot longer. Some doctors reccommend liquids for a day after food comes back up to allow the possible swelling to go down.
  2. I take the Flintstones, too. Actually, I take the generic ones from Wal-mart. I also found some sugar-free calcium chocolate chews. They're a generic brand - Nature Valley, or Nature Tree - I can't remember and I'm not at home to confirm. But anyway, they're WAY cheaper than Viactiv, and that's important because I'm REALLY pinchin' pennies these days.

    Ghetto

Since the previous thread was closed, but still VISIBLE...I feel strongly enough about this issue to post my rebuttal. Defending your right to say ghetto is like defending the right to say "nigger" or "trailer trash." It's a derogatory term that hinges on race and social status, implying that people that were raised in a certain part of town end up a certain way. Perhaps "Rude", "Crass", or even "Vulgar" might have been a better choice of words that didn't uncover a superiority attitude. C'mon..."ghetto"? A ghetto is a place, not a person.
  4. A day in my life... In the morning, I usually can't eat, so I'll just have an iced coffee or, when I'm being good, a protein shake. My kids will have cereal or fruit - something quick and grabbable. Then I drink lots of water until lunch time. Water's really important - I've only learned that in the past coupla weeks. For lunch, I come home from work and cook something. Unless I'm in a hurry, I'll go to McD's and get a salsa roja grilled chicken snack wrap. Today, I made scrambled eggs because I had a weird craving for them. I made two eggs, but I could only eat one. Then I go back to work and start drinking water again. If I get hungry at work, I'll have some sunflower seeds, or some cottage cheese. We have a fridge in the office so that helps. Dinner is where it gets a little hard because I usually have to fix my kids something different. Just an example from last night - I made my kids mac & cheese and fish sticks, and I made myself some tuna from the can. If we go out, I'll usually order one plate for me and my 5-year-old to share, since neither one of us can eat very much. If he's not with me, I always order a kids portion, or I'll ask for a half-order.
  5. I remembered a dessert!! My mom's friend always brought this to potluck at church - you mix a large container of cottage cheese with a pkg. of cherry or strawberry jello powder (unprepared, I guess you'd wanna use the sugar free), n some sugar free cool whip. It's sooo good. She would sometimes mix in canned mandarin oranges. Sorry you're not getting more responses!
  6. Hmmm... SF pudding - yum! But that doesn't really require a recipe does it? Hmm.... Or banana pudding - the Cookies get all mushy after a while. I guess I'm stuck on pudding.
  7. YW - I hate it when people gang up other people. It's one thing to offer advice, but it's another when they beat you over the head with it and treat you like you're stupid. Good luck!

    Ghetto

Yes, I felt that what I had to say was worth saying. And I posted it not because I felt I was superior, but because I'm standing AGAINST the racism and superiority that WORD implies, although it had the last word in that thread. I doubt anyone would've called a White person Ghetto. It's a RACIST term. I wouldn't have had anything to say against a curse word, because it's a general derogate, not one aimed at social status and race. To be clear, I wasn't defending pinkpassion, even though I neither believe that she was in the wrong. My thread is simply about the word "ghetto." I actually didn't even mention Beth, but you did. Headhunter, I've seen your "hunting" ways, and I know you'll beat this horse way past its death. Know now that I won't continue to beat it with you.
  9. Yeah, I have caffeine every day, too. An iced coffee every morning. It's my new vice since I can't have sodas anymore. No problems here - my doc didn't say no caffeine.
  10. What happened to everybody's tickers? I can't see mine or anyone else's. Can everyone else see them?

    Ghetto

It was a reply to a post in a thread.. "5th day out and yes I ate chicken." The moderator closed it. Keep up!! Just kidding. I should've explained that.
  12. I really think she did come for advice. And the advice that was well-offered was well-received. It was the condescending attitude behind some of the so-called "advice" that brought the girl-rilla out. And I can't even believe you said ghetto.
  13. Oook.... this is a big issue, and I'm sure you'll see a lot of responses - some spirited ones. I will share with you my recent experience. When I first had lapband, I lost weight doing low-cal. Not by counting, necessarily, just by eating healthier foods and making wiser choices. The band, of course, took care of the portion control. However, in June (about 3 months post-op), I started leveling off, stopped losing for about seven weeks, and even gained 3-4 pounds. Then on Thursday, I started doing low-carb again, limiting carbs to about 20 a day. (I'd lost a good amount of weight on Atkins pre-band, but I gained it back). Since Thursday, I've lost over 9 pounds, including what I had gained back. I can't say I'll do this for life, but I will say that low-carb works. Maybe it'll just help get me over the plateau so I can go back to eating "regularly." I don't know yet. But I know I'm glad to be back on the losing side.
  14. Woohooo!! Me, too. I was on a seven week plateau. Just lost about 8 pounds (including 4 I had gained), so I'm back on the losing side!! Yay us!

    please help

It's still a side effect. Whether it happens in 20% or 80%, it is factually a side effect of bypass. Do you ever hear commercials on TV that say "side effects are rare but generally include..." for certain medications? Don't you want to know what could potentially happen before you take the medicine? On the same note, I think the OP should still be made aware that it can happen. Just like she should also be made aware that chewing til your food turns to cud is a general requirement for lapband. Getting stuck hurts like the dickens, slippage can occur, etc. There are pros and cons of all WLS procedures. In my experience, there are certain annoyances that have made me consider that I should have gone with the sleeve. I didn't research it - I was one of those people that just flat out said, "Oh, I want a lapband because it's reversible and they don't cut my intestines." I wish I had done more research. I'm not saying I regret my band. I've had good success. I just wish I had been better armed with information, especially since I paid out of pocket. If, however, I ever have complications from the band, I may go to a sleeve. My advice to the OP, as others have said, is to research what works for you, as an individual. Consider if you have the willpower to make any WLS work. Talk with your doctor. And most importantly, be well informed. Good luck!
  17. It's also been my experience (and others' as well) that sometimes fills take a week to "kick in." I don't know why this is and it doesn't even make sense to me, but that's what I've experienced. I felt really tight immediately after my first fill in April - I could feel it in my throat, even. But after I did my two days of liquids, I went back to eating solids and I thought I didn't have enough (any) restriction. Then a few days later, it "settled" and I was able to feel PLENTY of restriction and have been good since then.
  18. I think it's important to remember that Low Carb doesn't mean No Carb. I think that's a big misconception. Also, from my reading, I've learned there was an earlier 1980's version of Atkins that was more restrictive of carbs. The newer books and research from ANA allow more carbs in the diet, and actually encourage a certain amount of good carbs from good nutritional sources, i.e., vegetables, nuts, berries, etc.

    Baby with a band?

A childhood friend of mine got pregnant a little over a year after being banded. She's the one who first piqued my interest in lapband. She delivered a healthy baby boy a few months ago, and she didn't have any complications that I know of. I do believe, though, that her doc unfilled her so she could eat enough nutrition for her and the baby.
  20. Ok, I had this same problem n then someone on this forum (RestlessMonkey) told me to drink more water and make sure I'm well-hydrated. That made a world of difference. I just started really focusing on it yesterday and have been able to eat without pain. I guess when everything is dry, it just doesn't work well.

How often do you weigh in?

I weigh every morning when I do WiiFit. I go to the bathroom first, and I'm always wearing pretty close to the same thing.
  22. It's fine - that's normal. It's scar tissue forming. It'll feel like you have a ball there for several weeks. It should eventually go down and you'll only be able to feel your port. But don't try feeling it now - you'll likely only find that big scarball.
  23. Oh, it's not THAT bad. It's not a pina colada, but you'll be ok. If you can handle pepto bismol, you can take the barium. Just be sure when you're done to find a bathroom or look in a hand mirror, because sometimes it leaves its chalky remains all over your lips. How attractive! I'm thinking my doc must have a larger fluoro machine, because I don't have to take a step over - you can see everything (the port and the band) all at once. But I wouldn't think that's a huge issue if you do have to step over a little. My doc has me stand up for my fills, and he uses a little shot of lidocaine instead of the cream. Numbing cream takes a long time to work well, whereas the shot is faster. At least that's been my experience when I went for laser hair treatments a couple of years ago - I had to wait 30-45 minutes for the cream to take full effect. If you feel faint, be sure and tell your doc. You might want to warn him/her beforehand if you're a fainter. Good luck!
  24. I was banded 3/6/09. I've lost about 45 pounds, but I've been stalled the last few weeks. Last week, I started re-doing my laundry room, so I was doing some pretty intensive labor - sweaty, hot, etc. Well, when I stopped to take a break, I opted for a cheese snack and it hurt. I stopped then tried again in an hour or so - same thing. I've noticed that since that day, it hurts every time I eat. There's no PB, it just hurts like a mild stuck. It happens every time I eat breakfast or lunch. By dinner, I'm ok. Anyone have this or know what it is?
  25. Well well.. it seems you were totally RIGHT!! I started drinking Water in large amounts earlier today, and by lunch time I was able to eat a whole can of tuna and an ounce of cheese with no pain. As a matter of fact, I was so excited to be eating "normally" that I might have eaten a little past full. But believe me the "stuffed" feeling was way better than the pain I had been having. I'll be more careful of course, but gosh darn it was good to eat lunch!! Yay 4 water!! :cool2:
