I DONT KNOW WHAT I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE LAP BAND
FailureIsntAnOption replied to MR P's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since you are posting in this forum, I assume you have computer access. Do your own research, the info is out there. GOOGLE IT! I researched like crazy before making my decision and even then things come up that I don't know about. This forum is a great source of information in itself. However, you should be able to have your questions answered by your surgeon's office. You should ask them for any literature they may have regarding the lapband. You are no different then anyone other patient out there. Educate yourself! -
A BIG NO NO!!!
FailureIsntAnOption replied to Ssauce74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't want to beat you up for falling off the wagon, but you have to know that you shouldn't eat those foods. You will not be successful unless you change your life style. Having a lap band is not about pushing the envelope to see how much you can eat before feeling full, its about being satisfied with much less food. Enough lecture, you know what to do JUST DO IT!!! -
WTH WHY is my hair thinning?
FailureIsntAnOption replied to mattie7632's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair began falling out in month 4. It didn't stop falling out until month 10. New hair has been coming in for a while now but it is NOT the same kind of hair. It's kinky curly like a poodle and very, very dry and frizzy. My weight loss has taken a huge toll on my hair. I don't know exactly why this happens.....some say its lack of protein, but I like you, eat better post surgery then I did pre. I guess the moral of the story is: We can't have a great body and great hair too! Sorry, my attempt at humor. -
Congestion After Fill and no weight loss
FailureIsntAnOption replied to punketts82gt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My endoscopy showed that I have an ulcerated esophagus. The endoscopy is unable to diagnose a slipped band so I have to go back for an upper G.I. x-ray to check my bands position, but the doctor thinks the ulcer is causing my pain and the other issues and that my band is probably fine. -

I'm having an endoscopy this afternoon because I've developed intense pain in my chest area. Will update later. -
Congestion After Fill and no weight loss
FailureIsntAnOption replied to punketts82gt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wanted to pipe in here and say that I too get congested while I eat and have to stop eating and cough up mucus. I do believe the other poster is correct that it is our signal that we've eaten enough. I haven't had a fill in over a year, the congestion has only been going on for a few months now. I see my surgeon next week and plan to ask this same question. -
Sick (Head cold) - can't keep anything down
FailureIsntAnOption replied to HungryMel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is very common for your band to feel tighter while you have an upper respiratory infection. You need to go on a liquid diet until you feel you can keep food down. I suggest you focus on getting all your water in and not force the food as this will only irritate your stomach more and cause it to swell more. Hope you feel better! -
Hypothyroidism to hyperthyroidism from weightloss
FailureIsntAnOption replied to FailureIsntAnOption's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Angel Eyes, I'm sorry I have no advice to give since I am in the same position. Being hyper hasn't helped me any either. I just keep plugging away and exercising every day and hopefully the weight will come off! Best of luck to you! -
Hypothyroidism to hyperthyroidism from weightloss
FailureIsntAnOption posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am almost 2 years post-op. Have lost 120 pounds (still 40 pounds from goal) I have had hypothyroidism for the past 12 years and now suddenly its turned to hyperthyroidism. I'm getting really frustrated because I haven't changed a thing I am doing and can't seem to get the remaining weight off. I have continued to exercise everyday to keep up my momentum but the scale hasn't moved in several months. People told me that once you get closer to goal that getting weight off was harder......they weren't kidding! Anyone else experience changes in thyroid since weightloss? Oh yeah, I am no longer having to take blood pressure meds. Yay! -
Stuck Feeling in my throat
FailureIsntAnOption replied to Amanda1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This could just be the way it feels when you have food in your pouch. Pressure is usually caused from eating too fast or eating too much. -
So tell me...
FailureIsntAnOption replied to Jennifer1977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, I was banded in April 2009. The first year I lost 107 pounds. In total I have lost 116 pounds. My high blood pressure is gone and I no longer take meds. Also, my hypothyroidism is gone. I feel great and have a great deal of energy to spare. I can no longer sit still and watch television with all the energy I have. -
Hypothyroidism to hyperthyroidism from weightloss

Hi Bobbi, I didn't have any significant change until around 114 pounds. Just be sure your doc keeps checking your levels. -
Tired of unwanted advice
FailureIsntAnOption replied to pinkbutterfly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's been almost 2 years since I was banded and thankfully I haven't had to deal with anything like mentioned in this thread. I don't share my band worries, woes or my insecurities with anybody so maybe this is why. I'm really not interested in the opinions of anybody who has never walked in my shoes and didn't ask for any opinions when contemplating the surgery either. I think some people tend to let others get too involved in their personal matters then when they are told something they don't agree with or didn't solicit they get mad. Just my opinion! -
Hypothyroidism to hyperthyroidism from weightloss
FailureIsntAnOption replied to FailureIsntAnOption's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes Jodi my doctor did monitor my thyroid and it began to change when I hit the 100 pound lost mark but it wasn't necessary to change my meds because I was still within normal range. Then suddenly I began having dizzy spells and figured out that my BP was too low. Doctor took me off BP meds then decided he better check my thyroid again and found I was hyper with my meds. was surprised because I did not realize that the disease would improve with weight loss. Needless to say, I'm thrilled! I am being re-tested soon and hoping to go off meds altogether. Also hoping once my thyroid is in normal range again that I will begin to lose more weight. -
You've read the success stories...now read about a failure.
FailureIsntAnOption replied to Cheryl Ann's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Cheryl Ann, I don't see you as a failure at all! Seems you have done pretty well. I wouldn't get too upset about an 11 pound gain, I would start back at the basics.....protein first and start journaling if it helps you. If you aren't, I would get back to an exercise routine ASAP. Best wishes! -
How do you feel if you've "irritated" your band?
FailureIsntAnOption replied to hautemama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vomiting may irritate your band. I can tell when mine is irritated because I feel intense pressure in my chest. -
Alex, I got so tired of being stalked, harassed and ridiculed by a certain couple oldies that I just decided to stay away. I also forgot my log-in info. Thanks to your email I was able to log in again. This forum is a great resource when needed.

Thanks for the email Alex. I am still around and still maintaining my 120 pound weight loss. Lapband was the one single best thing I have ever done for myself. I've been very fortunate with my band, no problems at all!

No worries!

For the record, since there is a discussion concerning me that you all neglected to invite me to, RM was first rude to me. I did then respond rudely. Lets keep the facts straight please.

Can I swim, or is it too soon?

I would definitely check with your surgeon. -
Nasty Rotting
FailureIsntAnOption replied to LauraLA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not experienced this but I suggest you try getting some papaya enzyme to see if that will break down whatever may be stuck in there. If this doesn't work you should probably call your doctor. Best of luck to you. Donna -
too much alcohol, what happens?
FailureIsntAnOption replied to peaches76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The reason you most likely were so tight is because you were dehydrated. Next time you drink, drink Water between drinks and you wont get so drunk either.
