    please help

HH, You have absolutely no right to attack me here. I simply stated my OPINION and advised sabertooth to do their homework. You need to take a step back and re-read your post. Just because you had a bad experience or are just in a bad mood, whatever the case may be, doesn't give you the right to attack me or anybody else for that matter. Remember, this is a lap band forum so of coarse you are going to hear from people the positive things about lap band. If you go to a bypass forum you will likely encounter the people who praise bypass. You need to remember what these forums are for. They are to advise from personal experience and help people with questions. Don't come on this forum and belittle and berate me for trying to help. I know at least 10 people with HORRIBLE SURGICAL OUTCOMES from BYPASS SURGERY and base my OPINION on this knowledge and research I have done. Of course this knowledge made we WARY of the procedure. Who wouldn't be wary of it in my position. Two people I know have died from complications in the past 10 years, another is in liver failure from her bypass 8 years ago and she is only 32, another has lost all her hair and fingernails from malnutrition, another is in a convelesant hospital from complications too numerous to list, I know "three" people who had bypass in the past year and are absolutely fine, the lady who owns the gym I go to had it 4 years ago and is doing fantastic. This procedure wasn't for me, doesn't mean somebody else shouldn't do it. As I said before Sabertooth, please don't feel you have to go through with it because you are already scheduled. There are as I said before, pros and cons to both proceedures and should be fully investigated before you proceed and decide which proceedure is right for you. Feel free to postpone your surgery until you make the decision best for you. If you don't like what I have to say it doesn't really matter because I live in a country were I am free to state MY OPINION!

Momma of twins having surgery in 2 weeks

If I were you I would check into the lifting thing more thoroughly because it was made very clear to me in the post-op instructions not to do any lifting.

    Day One

Different surgeons give different post-op instructions. It is normal to have no appetite for the first few days or first week. Just do the best you can at getting the Protein drinks down. Also, be sure to keep sipping Water. My post op instructions were Clear liquids only for the first 2 weeks. My main source of protein was from Isopure which I gagged on. Perhaps you need to try a different Protein Drink. I really like the Matrix 5 powder. Muscle milk is better tasting then some other Protein Drinks perhaps you could try them. Just be sure you don't dehydrate. Hope I helped you.

    Insurance problems, new poster here.

I ran into the same thing with my insurance provider Kaiser Permenente. After self paying for the lap band surgery myself I learn that they do indeed cover it and I was given erroneous information. I have since filed a grievance with my provider and am waiting for the outcome. Funny thing is, they were really pushing the bypass which I am/was totally against. I think the reason is that the band takes much commitment to succeed whereas the bypass is a sure thing and doesn't require the adjustments/fills that the band does. My advise to you.....keep pushing until you get your way.

    Can I have unprotected sex?

To be honest, I've never heard the word before today. Bitchy seems to fit some people better though don't you think! I prefer the term "smart ass"

    shopping list?

You will need clear Protein for weeks one and two. Try Isopure. I didn't like it but most people seem to. Week three and four and even now I use/used Matrix 5 Protein powder. I love to make fruit smoothies with the vanilla flavor, add banana and blueberries or strawberries to it in the blender with ice. Yummy!

5 days post op and depressed...

That's awful! That is the feeling I get when I am stuck. I'm surprised you have that feeling before being filled and I'm also surprised your dietician would give you that advise. I'm glad you are seeing your surgeon. Hope you feel better.

Sabertooth, I am totally against the bypass surgery for the obvious risks associated with it. You really need to make your own decision by researching, comparing the pros and cons and your level of commitment. The band is only a tool to help you to eat less. You will still have to work very hard to loose the weight. I know several people who have had bypass surgery and regret it. You are forever altered with bypass. There are many long term health hazards to be considered if you choose bypass. I choose the band because I felt that it was less invasive then bypass and the health risks were minimal by comparison to that of the bypass. With bypass you will loose your weight faster but you may also suffer from malnutrition. Please, please, do your homework. Don't feel like you have to go through with the bypass unless it is what YOU want. I have absolutely no regrets about having lap band surgery. I still have a long way to go to make my goal but what I am learning about eating healthier and living with my band is really going to help me to maintain my goal weight. Good luck to you!

Momma of twins having surgery in 2 weeks

Recovery is pretty quick as the surgery is a pretty simple procedure. The main thing is don't do any heavy lifting for I think 4 weeks post-op. This would include lifting your toddlers. Be sure to tell your surgeon you have small children so he/she can advise you about lifting. Good luck! You will not regret your decision.

    Totally frustrated and sad!

Don't worry! Most things people worry about never even happen. Take the job and wait for your fill. You will be fine without it for the time being.

5 days post op and depressed...

audjbr, I can remember feeling the same exact way. I believe you are still going through sugar withdrawals which will make you have food cravings. I can remember my family eating dinner and me just drooling over the food. Finally I took a couple of bites and just chewed and spit the food out. This feeling does get better once you can begin on mushy foods. Just hang in there a little longer and you will have such great success to keep you motivated.
  18. I do remember being uncomfortable and feeling like my chest was really heavy. I think you should contact your surgeon and ask about the sharp pain. It doesn't sound like anything to mess around with.

Thanks Beth from VA and Brandy for making light of the rediculousness of this topic. LOL!

    Can I have unprotected sex?

What's your excuse Monkey? You don't own these forums last time I checked. Others are entitled to opinions and comments without your input. If you don't like it don't read.
  23. Sounds like Cathy gave you good advice. I know what it is like to struggle to eat. I'm going through that now and have been since my last fill a couple of weeks ago. I have to spend a day of travel to get to my surgeon's office so I have been procrastinating. My advice to you is to get a small fill and then wait around your surgeon's office and drink all you can before leaving to make sure you are not too tight. Good luck to you!
  24. I looked through your pictures and just wanted to tell you how great you are looking. Congratulations!

  25. Hello and thank you for the friend request. Are you banded?

    Tell me about yourself please.
