I was really excited last night for the silliest reason; I was making hamburgers since the boyfriend was getting sick of chicken (and frankly, so was I). I made burgers of all different sizes because even though I was going to eat it with a knife and fork, I didn't want to weight it and cut it up to make my 3 oz. Well, I had 2 perfectly sized burgers. Silly, but it made me happy.

Hello Ladies! So far, my job is still in limbo. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. I'm in my second week of school. Finally going back to get that degree. I have class from 6-10 so dinner is difficult. Last night I brought my dinner with me and started to eat my cottage cheese in the car. When everyone else grabbed chips, cookies, candy and full sugar sodas; I had my light & fit yoghurt. The stress about layoffs is definately making it harder to stick to the diet. I think I'm able to handle normal stress right now. But this is not normal stress. This is big stuff. I need to do a bit more work. I think I'll read that Beck book. I think I'll start a thread on the social group for books. Please give your reviews or suggestions! :blushing:

I had the best morning. After seeing my scale and realizing that I have actually lost 30 lbs (omg!) I was on cloud 9 all morning. I got to work and my coworker came up to me and whispered "Have you been losing weight?" I said that I have and she said "I can tell, good for you!". Let me just tell you how that just made my day. With all the work stress it's really hard to stick to the pre-op diet. I can handle day-to-day stress, but this layoff stuff is like nothing I've experienced before. But I'm still happy. I got home and told the boyfriend about my coworker and he said his best friend noticed I've lost weight too. I think people noticing is motivating me when I'm slipping. I received an email warning me that I am at risk for layoff. I've been expecting it, but it's still a bummer. There hasn't been any definates yet but I've already applied for another job and I'll keep looking. But, if I get laid off then I can spend my days in the gym and going to school. I'll have these next 50 lbs gone in no time!

I found another eating trigger. We were just notified today that approx 370 layoffs are going to happen in our dept. I've only been there 2 years so I'm a little nervous. Actually I'm freaking out and really anxious. I just keep thinking about food! I'm trying my best to resist those urges!

Well, I'm prepared to lose it with or without the band! (I hope with, eventually)

I had my appt with Dr. Fisher today. I had quite a different experience. I was super excited since I've lost 21 lbs since orientation. He didn't even mention that. I got two different goal weights. The first one, 280 is the weight he says I should start examining the emotional side. At 250 I should be scheduled for the psych eval. That's like, 84 lbs pre-op! The whole reason, he says, is because I am young (25) and I haven't had kids. He says they need to be sure I have the emotional maturity to do it, and show them I'm dedicated. The other thing was that I'm a high risk right now. Apparently, not having kids means my abdomen hasn't been streatched out, so there's a lot of pressure in there. He told me the ideal age for lap band is 35. It's not quite what I expected, but I'll keep on keeping on! I'm supposed to go in for regular weight checks with my PCP every 2-3 weeks and stick with the pre-op diet. He said he thinks I should get the band (vs. RNY and doing nothing) so at least he believes I can be successful. I won't be able to meet up with y'all on Friday. I've got to work. So Candra, if your 14 lbs feels daunting, just remember, I've got 70 more to go!

Weekends are rough! My aunt's 60th birthday was yesterday. We had dinner at Fat's Bistro which is amazing. I broke all the rules yesterday. I drank water at dinner, drank with a straw, and had a bunch of chinese food. Then had dessert. I figure I was still pretty conservative with all of it, and in my mind if I don't have something like this more than once every few weeks, I'm going to be okay. I also think it's a "last meal" thing. I'll enjoy it and not make myself feel guilty. And I have the pre-op appt with Dr. Fisher on Thursday.

Hello Ladies! I have a weight watchers scale too! For all my luck the first week of the pre-op diet I lost 16 lbs. I was sick for week 2 and couldn't work out (my asthma gets bad when I'm sick so there's not a lot of cardio going on!) I didn't lose any! I went for a walk yesterday and did my Turbo Jam dvd the night before, and I've already started losing again! I love the idea of crystal light popsicles. I did try the crystal light slurpee from 7-11 a few weeks ago. Maybe mine was poorly mixed or something but it was so sour I couldn't even finish it. I had maybe 1/4 of it. The boyfriend took a sip and just about gagged. Oh, and I bought the EA Active for the Wii. I haven't tried it yet since I'm not too video game savvy, but I've got a date with that game this weekend! Anyway, I'm off to the gym for a little after work elliptical action!

Apparently I can't change the group name, but I changed the description. We won't discriminate if you weren't banded at Richmond. :crying: So now, it's basically nor-cal Kaiser.

Hey Ladies! I just created a social group for us here on lapbandtalk. Just click on Social Groups, it's called Kaiser Richmond because I'm super original! Anyway... I figured it might be cool.:crying:

    Richmond Kaiser anyone?

There's a thread on here under pre-op with a bunch of Kaiser Richmond ladies! I'm still early pre-op but there are people days, weeks and months post-op. Our thread is about 115 pages now, so there's a wealth of information!

The nails splitting and peeling is a nutrition thing. I used to get it when I was 14 and a vegitarian. But I wasn't a healty vege, I was just being rebelious so I basically didn't have any protein. I even saw the doc about it and was told it was because I wasn't eating a balanced diet. As soon as I started eating meat again it stopped. I haven't had trouble with my nails in over 10 years now.

Candra, Dinner was great! I had 1/2 cup squash, 1/2 cup cottage cheese (since I didn't have ricotta) and 1/2 cup spaghetti sauce. Then I sliced 1 cheese stick and cooked in the microwave for a few minutes. Definately making it again!

Candra! I bought spaghetti squash on my way home from the meeting yesterday! I'm going to make that for dinner tonight. Thanks for the great idea!

I'll be there Saturday! I'm not looking forward to this weekend. We have a graduation party on Friday, visiting my boyfriend's family in San Jose on Saturday and another graduation party in San Francisco on Sunday. We do our own little tour of California. I'm so worried about what I'm going to eat. Every other time we've gone to stay with his family we have fast food or we go out to dinner. The boyfriend is trying to do the pre-op diet with me so I feel like I should bring an ice chest with food for us, but I just don't know. I weighed myself at the gym the other day. I guess my scale at home isn't broken. I really have lost this much weight! Can't wait to meet you guys on Saturday!

I'm doing better with the diet already. I'm less hungry between meals. I even went to my friend's son's 6th birthday party and was able to resist the nachos, hot dogs and everything else. It wasn't time for my next meal, so I didn't eat. It was a big win for me today. Yay!

Candra I feel your pain with the diet! I'm struggling a little because I was always snacking. Now I can't even have a snack of fruit or something "It always starts with a piece of fruit" lol. I keep getting way full on my meal and then hungry a few hours later. I don't know if it's just the head hunger or what, but I'm fighting with myself saying "It's good to be hungry!" I also don't quite believe my scale, I think it might be broken or something. I'm so glad to have found this group on here, I feel like I'm already staying on track better than I would have on my own.

I had orientation today. I'm really pleased with it too. I've been to 2 other bariatric orientations and this one was by far the best! Dr. Fisher was there, and he'll be my surgeon. I go for my surgeon appt in 3 weeks! It seems so fast. Overall I think today went well. My boyfriend came with me and is super supportive. He's even going to do the pre-op diet so he can lose a little more weight and I don't have to cook 2 different dinners for us! I'm a little nervous about the whole thing but I'm also excited. I also got to meet Candra today! It's great to know someone is going through it all at the same time!
