  1. Yes! I thought it might be you, but I figured it would be rather rude to interrupt your appointment.
  2. Neil- I looked for you at SSF today. Did your wife go with you? Did Dr Alami take you down the stairs around 9:45? I was in the waiting room then. I went down for my pre-op blood work (again), they didn't have orders in the computer. I was able to go up and do a weight check, get the orders done and pick up my note for work. I was able to spend a few hours with a friend that lives nearby and got to savor the SF weather.
  3. I'll be at SSF tomorrow morning too! Maybe I'll see you at the lab or on the 3rd floor. Hope everything gets sorted out quick!
  4. At all the Kaiser classes they keep using the plastic egg ad a visual, I really wish they'd use the boughie instead. Give us something to reference here people!
  5. I'm feeling pretty good, I'm done with antibiotics and have a new inhaler which seems to have helped things. I feel pretty good for surgery in less than 3 weeks.
  6. I've discussed my surgery openly with my mom and boyfriend for the past 2 years. I know my mom told my dad, and that's just fine. As my surgery date got closer I started to tell more people. Every single person has been wonderful about it. They're all really excited for me. A coworker even guessed that I was having WLS, everyone at work knows I'm having my gallbladder out and they know I've been dieting for the past 2 years, but 1 woman just seemed to know I was having WLS. I feel like everyone knows, or will be able to tell soon. I think I'll be much more open post-op. I used to think I would just tell people I was eating less and exercising more, which is true, but then I started to think about all the people who could benefit from my experience. I only learned about VSG when an acquaintance was very open about her plans for surgery, now I kinda feel obligated to share this gift with others.
  7. I was wondering about that too! All my banded friends had 6 weeks! 3 weeks just doesn't seem long enough. Everyone I know that has had their gallbladder out has had 6 weeks off. I'm having the sleeve and the gallbladder out and I only get 3 weeks? I'm so afraid I won't have the energy to get through my work day. One thing a friend suggested is to talk to your PCP and ask for more time off work. I'm hoping I'll be up for it when my 3 weeks is up but if not,I'll be talking to my PCP to either ask for more time or to go half days for a bit.

    Surgery Playlist

    Lol, thanks!
  9. I've still got a hell of a cough, I usually only have a problem with my asthma about once a year- this year just happened a week before surgery! I'm really glad it was postponed, but I would much rather I never got sick in the first place so I could be complaining about the radiologist with babysista! I know its for the best, I really don't want complications. Today was the final support group meeting at Kaiser Point West. I was happy to see a large group there, and plenty of sleevers! The consensus is that people will continue to show up at Point West on the 4th Saturday of each month and we'll just carry on until Kaiser tells us we can't. We're rebels like that. Also, a big welcome to the ladies I met today; Lea, Michelle and Therese!
  10. Hey Girl, I hope you're doing well. I'm sending you happy recovery thoughts. :)

Hey NorCals! Where is everyone from?

I'm from Elk Grove (outside Sacramento) I'm willing to drive up to 2 hours for a meetup. (San Jose, San Francisco etc) I'd love to get a regular group going since the Kaiser Point West support group has been disbanded.

    Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Thanks ladies... I know if anyone understands my disappointment and frustration, you will. I can't help thinking "Today I should have been waking up in the hospital, and walking around with Kim" and things like that. I know it will go quickly, but I've waited so long already. It figures I would get sick (at the start of summer, no less!) and have to delay surgery. Of all the people I've met, no one has had to delay surgery because they got sick! Anyway... I'm just having a little pity party for one here, don't mind me. It just makes me even more determined.

    Sacramento meetup

7/9, 7/16, 7/30 work for me. I was out of town for the last one, I'm excited to meet everyone!

    Hello :)

I'm Heather, my surgery is scheduled for July 20 in South San Francisco, CA. I can't wait... I was originally scheduled for June 22, but I got a cold the week before surgery and we had to postpone, then my doc couldn't get me in for 4 weeks. I'm a little bummed since I'm supposed to be waking up in the hospital today and have a tiny tube shaped stomach, but I'm still sick and I know even if I had no complications with my cold, coughing like I am with a bunch of holes in my belly would not be fun. I'm also getting my gallbladder out when I get sleeved.

    "Jewels of June"

I'm not a Jewel of June anymore! I got a cold the day after my pre-op appt, 1 week before surgery. Surgery has been rescheduled for July 20. Good luck to all you lucky-duck Jewels of June!

    Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

It's official.... surgery is postponed for me. Dr Alami doesn't want me to have anasthesia if I'm still sick. What a bummer. My new surgery date is July 20. Four more weeks. Ugh.
  17. It's official.... surgery is postponed. I've had a cold for the past week and my asthma is only a problem when I'm sick. I finally talked to Dr Alami today and he postponed my surgery to July 20. I can't believe I'm back to being 4 weeks from surgery! It's better than getting pneumonia or blood clots or whatever other complications I'd be subject to.... I just hate that its so far out still. Babysista- I'll be thinking of you tomorrow...

    What is up with therapist

I had this same problem when I was considering the ba.nd. The doc/nurses at the first hospital I started at advised against a support group with lots of people who struggle. They said something about only talking/hanging around people who are successful. I also know that they would read the message boards and discuss all our posts (There was a patient generated, hospital specific thread and the staff read it daily). Perhaps your doc is afraid of you getting bad advise or being pulled down by people who aren't successful? Or that you'll learn how to "cheat".

    Surgery alone

You probably can't have your daughter pick you up, unless they don't know she's only 16. My program specifies a "responsible adult" must accompany you home. They also said it's fine to be dropped off, and to call for a ride when it's time to go.
  20. It's actually the 25th and it will be the last meeting. And Angel (the facilitator) won't be there. She is unable to lead the meetings due to a time conflict, and Kaiser has decided to pull their support for our meeting. Major bummer!

    BMI too low

How close is your BMI? How tall are you? If you're an inch shorter at the same weight, your BMI is higher.

    Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

Thanks for all the encouraging words. I'm nervous for sure. I had my pre-op appt on Tuesday, I woke up the next day with a major cold! I'm home sick today and just trying to take it easy. I'll call SSF again on Monday (as they suggested) but I'm scared this will delay surgery. I definately don't want to have surgery if this could be dangerous.... Ugh, so frusterated!
  23. I feel lucky, I've been having gallbladder attacks for the past year so I'm having my gallbladder out at the same time I get sleeved! No lies to anyone... except by omission. But when I say I'm having my gallbladder out, it's the truth!

    Nail Polish

I was told no metallic nail polish, and be sure the right index finger nail is trimmed to 1". It's funny how different each surgeon is!
