    Fearful of weight gain.

Hi ladies. I am in the same boat. I am 10 months out of surgery and over 50 lbs down. I am 7 weeks pregnant and am terrified of gaining everyone of those 50 pounds back. My doctor will not let me have a fill despite having no restriction (I was too tight and had to have quite a bit of an emergency unfill right before I found out I was pregnant). I understand, but I am nervous about unrestricted eating during my entire pregnancy. Gotta stay strong and keep exercising, I suppose....good luck to everyone!
  2. It is where a part of your bowel just stops working temporarily and you get a back up of stuff in there.
  3. Have you passed gas? Are you bloated? If you have not passed gas and your belly is bloated or distended, you may have an ileus. This is bad and you need to see your doctor. If you are passing gas, I would just pick up an OTC laxative and wait for results. Good luck to you!
  4. Hi ladies. My husband and I are also trying to conceive. Just want to wish everyone the best of luck! Paulette, sorry for the loss.
  5. I also had terrible back pain a few weeks after surgery. I think it only lasted about a month or so.
  6. I am also a nurse and I understand your issues with telling people. I have only disclosed my surgery to a few select people. I have been fortunate enough that the people that I have told have been very supportive. Do not be ashamed. I would be more ashamed if I continued to let my weight spiral out of control and let my health suffer because of my pride.

Definately incorporate more fiber into your diet. You can do benefiber or eat high fiber foods like oatmeal. Also make sure that you are getting lots and lots of fluids in. I also had this problem shortly after surgery and occasionally have bouts of it. If it has been over a week, I would probably get some Milk of Magnesia or Magnesium Citrate or some other sort of laxative from the drug store. You will be miserable if that stuff sits in your bowels and gets hard.
  8. Hello everyone. Welcome to the site. Band surgery is an exciting and frustrating journey, but it has been such a positive experience for my husband and myself. Good luck to each of you!

    sleep apnea??

Hi! Do not worry about the sleep study. As a previous poster said, the worst part is the goop..and getting it out of your hair the next day. It will probably not be the best night of sleep you will ever get, but you will survive. You mentioned that it seems that everyone that gets tested for sleep apnea is diagnosed. I know that it seems that way, but it is not the case. Sleep apnea tends to be weight related (but not always), so you will see alot of overweight people who are diagnosed. Good news is that with weight loss, people can decrease the severity of their apnea or even get rid of it all together. Hope this helps!
  10. My surgery was an outpatient procedure at a local hospital. My surgeon required a 6 hour stay after anesthesia to make sure that problems did not arise after surgery that would require a hospital stay. If anything had come up, I would have stayed the night. Fortunately, that was not the case and all went well. I would not have any concerns with surgery center as long as you check to find out what will happen if complications arise? Will you be transported to a hospital for care?

    Gurgling

I just started gurgling after my most recent fill. It actually makes me happy because it makes me feel like my band is just a wee bit tighter.....

    Couch to 5k-Joggers!

I am on week 5 of the couch to 5k program. It has been great so far. It pushes me, but not so much that I give up. I went from barely being able to jog 2 minutes to jogging a straight 12 minute mile last night (not as part of the program...just to see if I could do it). I do it on a treadmill, and as someone mentioned, it is MUCH more difficult when running outdoors. My plan is to conquer the treadmill just to get my endurance up, then backtrack in the program a bit until I can run outdoors. Give it a try and good luck!!!
  14. I want to say that the manufacturers guidelines state that you must wait 4-6 weeks between fills.

    Cinco de mayo challenge 2010

Hello everyone. I stumbled across this thread and decided that I would like to participate in your challenge. I am not sure if you all know each other or not...I hope that it is ok??? I really need some extra motivation right now. I put my info in the spreadsheet. Meredith
  16. I have had 5 fills with my 6th scheduled for Tuesday. What really sucks is that my husband had the surgery too and he has GREAT restriction after just 2 fills. Makes me jealous :blushing: I am going to have a chat with the Dr. on Tuesday to see what she says...

    Trying for a baby . . ..

I believe that I am in the same place that you are. I was banded in August, but I still have about 40 lbs to lose before I meet my goal. I know that it will not happen before pregnancy, as we are probably going to start trying in the next few months. I am scared and excited at the same time.
  18. MissMelissa, I totally understand. I was banded in August 2009. While I have lost 45 lbs, only about 20 of those have been since the surgery. I have 8.7 cc out of 11 and practically NO restriction!!! I am just hoping that good restriction is possible, as all of my weight loss has been from dieting!!!

    It took a while but...

Your post is encouraging to me. I have 8.7 cc in my 11 cc band, but my restriction is VERY minimal. I am hoping that I am able to acheive a decent level of restriction before I "max" out at 11. Out of curiosity, at what point did you notice a really good amount of restriction?
  20. I have an 11cc band with 8.7cc filled. I have practically NO restriction. I have a fill scheduled for next week, but I am so scared that I will get completely full eventually and not have adequate restriction. Has this happened to anyone else? Meredith
  21. I weigh myself once every morning. I get out of bed, use the bathroom, then weigh myself. By doing it at the same time everyday, I get a pretty consistent and accurate measurement of my weight loss. I tend to gain weight through the day, so my weights would be all over the place if I did my weigh-ins at different times. Try weighing yourself at the same time each day, and see how that works out for you! Meredith

    Discouraged

Amanda, I am in the exact same position as you. I was banded 3 1/2 weeks ago. I have lost 7lbs. It is frustrating and I have also been hungry. I have found that grabbing a Protein shake or a scoop of Peanut Butter will generally curb my hunger AND give me some protein. I understand what you mean about telling people that you have only lost 10lbs. I feel the same way you do. When they ask, I always tell them my total weight loss since I began the surgery process (31 lbs). This sounds much more impressive, and it is a reminder to me that I have come a LONG WAY. If I say that I have only lost 7 lbs since surgery, I feel the need to throw in the disclaimer that my surgeon told me not to expect any weight loss until after my first fill. Mine is Sept. 23, by the way Good luck! Meredith

    Protien Shakes??

I cannot stand the smell of Protein powders and high Protein shakes. I have found that if if use powdered carnation instant Breakfast (the sugar free kind) and mix in half a scoop of unjury unflavored Protein Powder, the gross smell and taste is minimized. I actually find myself looking forward to it each morning. I get 23g protein in each shake when made with skim milk. Meredith

    Double Check

That happened to me too! I have always thought I was 5'5", but when they checked my height, I was 5'3 1/2"!!!! It did not end up making a difference as far as BMI/approval was concerned, but it was certainly a surprise! Meredith
