    Panicky

My anesthesiologist offered me something when I was in surgery hold (I think it was valium), but I declined. As soon as he walked out, I had a brief moment of anxiety, but it quickly passed. If they do not offer it, you can always ask! Meredith
  2. I was banded August 13, and I have been struggling to get in enough protein. The SMELL repulses me! Someone on this board mentioned the 25 g protein shots from Costco. I bought some last night. They were 12 for $21. They are each 2.9 oz and they taste like jello that has not been congealed yet. A little thick, but absolutely no protein texture or smell! I am so excited that I can finally get in all of my protein without wanting to gag! The "protein" part of the shot is something called actinase. Does anyone know anything about this? I hope its not too good to be true!

    Banded Aug 11..constipation?

I was banded 8/13 and also battled constipation. I went 4 days and was miserable! Just as I was getting ready to head to the drug store, nature came through for me. Sweet relief!

    vitamins post-op

I take 2 flintstones complete each day. I like them and actually look forward to the treat each day
  5. PB or sliming episode? I am currently on on my post op diet (full liquids) and I am so scared to eat b/c I dont want to PB or slime. When did everyone experience thier first? Was it on real foods or mushies, or even liquids? Thanks for the input! Meredith
  6. I arrived at the hospital at 6:30am for 8:30 surgery. I dont think I was taken to surgery until shortly after 9 though. My surgeon requires a 6 hour hospital stay before you can go home (starting from the time you leave recovery). It seemed excessive, but I am glad that I stayed because I ended up getting a little sick and I was pretty groggy. I was home by 6pm.

Banded Aug 10th - just tired...

123, I was banded 8/13. My doctor told me that it was fine to take whole pills. In fact, she prescribed percocet in pill form. It is a decent sized round pill, and I havent had any problems taking it. I dont think I could tolerate crushing it. Eww. I think I would rather hurt! My doctor also told me that it is ok to continue taking my regular maintenance meds.
  8. Hi! I was banded on Thursday 8/13. I am doing fine now. Day 1 was painful, but not too bad. Yesterday morning I was miserable, but I took a nice, long nap lying absolutely flat on the my back. It made me feel SO MUCH BETTER. It was amazing. I went from feeling like I had made a huge mistake because I felt so bad in the AM to getting up after my nap and going to Target, to the hospital to visit my father, and out to get something to eat for the husband. It was amazing how much just laying flat relieved my upper-middle back pain. If you want to read more about my experience, feel free to check out my blog. I have not posted since Thursday night, but plan to update it this afternoon. Good luck and happy weight loss to everyone. Oh, BTW, I lost 10 lbs on my pre-op diet and 1 lb since surgery.
  9. B12 is one of the vitamins that my surgeon says that I will need to take after surgery. I know that you can buy sublingual B12 or go to the pharmacy/shot nurse and get the injections. Someone mentioned to me that you can get B12 injections and do them yourself if you know how. Does anyone know about this? Do I need a RX? I know how to give IM injections, so that is not a problem. This would be SO much more convenient than remembering to take a pill every day or having to go somewhere to get the injection. Thanks for any info! Meredith
  10. Hi! I am being banded next Thursday (8/13). My husband and I spend alot of time on our boat at the lake during the summers. Do you know how long I will have to wait after to surgery to get into the Water? Thanks! Meredith

    Swimming after surgery?

Thanks for the quick responses. I will have to ask my surgeon next week. Hopefully I will be able to get in a couple to boat trips after surgery but before the weather starts to turn.

    Bmi, just 39%

My BMI was 39 when I started the process. It was 37.4 when I submitted for insurance approval. I have cigna, and they approved me. I do not have HTN or diabetes. The only health issue that I have is high cholesterol. Good luck!
  13. I have the Tanita HD 351. It is a fabulous scale. Very accurate (my weights are consistent with those at my physicians office), and easy to use. I like that the different user buttons record the last weight. My husband weighs on #1 and I use #2. Whenever I hit #2, it pops up with my most recent weight. I do not remember how much we paid for the scale, but it was not cheap. If you already have 2 scales, you could just pick which one you want to use. Even if the scale isn't 100% accurate, it should still reflect accurate weight loss.
  14. If none of these other suggestions work, I have one that may. My aunt's oncologist told her to do this when she was battling chronic constipation. Take vaseline and form it into a tiny pea sized ball. Roll it in sugar (to make it palatable) and freeze. When you are having issues, just swallow a ball. Guess it helps lube everything up
  15. I heard once that you cannot take pills once you have a band and that you have to get chewable/liquid medications. I have not seen anything like that on this board. Does anyone know about this?
  16. I have cigna and I have to prove 2 years with a BMI>35. (I have a comorbidity, otherwise I would have had to prove BMI>40 for 2 years) OP, wait for your sleep study results to come back from the doctor. The pulomonologist that is reading it is most likely a sleep specialist (that is how it is at the sleep lab that I worked for). Your sleep tech may or may not be correct in telling you that you do not have apnea. While experienced techs are usually pretty good at predicting the results, I have seen many, many times when they have been incorrect. Your symptoms do sound alot like apnea. RLS is no big deal. You can get medications to control that. The REM disorder comment is interesting. Could be a variety of things. Wait for your doctor to give you the results. As for the cost of the study, unfortunately they are very expensive. Insurance usually covers a pretty good portion of the expense. Good luck! lsprrnbr
