    Over half way there

I am half way through this liquid pre-op diet. Down 8 pounds!!! I hope I lose everything I am supose to lose on this diet so my liver is shrunk(sp) and Dr. Veninga has no trouble when he gets in there. I kept waking up all night thinking in 8 days I will be banded. That is exciting and scary at the same time. There is so much I need to get ready for. I will need to go to the store to make sure I have the items I need for the 2 weeks of Full liquids after surgery. Then a crazy thought hits me....I could call the city and order the smaller trash and recycle bins, I won't need big ones anymore...lol I know super random thoughts.:wink2:
  4. Day 7 of 14 here...starting to feel like 2nd nature to me. I guess at some point dare I say it I got use to the shake routine. I am looking forward to something other than these Optifast shakes but I am excited about the 8 pounds that I have already dropped. I just keep telling myself how happy my surgeon will be when he gets in there and I have a beautifully shrunken (sp?) liver. Keep up the good work!!

    December Bandsters 2009

Good luck to everyone being banded this week! I'm right behind you next week!!!
  7. So today started my 4th day of my pre-op Optifast liquid diet that my surgeon requires. I will be honest....I really thought this would be harder! Granted I would love a cheeseburger right now but these shakes are keeping me full. I have 4 shakes and a chicken flavored soup a day. A total of 800 calories a day for 14 days. I have learned though that when they say that you can add artificial sweetner and extracts to them, there is a reason. They are bland. I have experimented and my favorite is to take the vanilla and add ice, orange extract, and 2 splenda. Makes it taste like a dreamcicle. Good luck to anyone else on this crazy liquid diet. WE can do it!!

    1st day of liquids

I am on the same pre-op diet! The Optifast keeps me full, which really surprised me. I found a little Garlic Salt in the Chicken Soup helps alot. I had to go through the liquid diet for Thanksgiving but it wasn't as bad as I thought. 2 days down and 12 days to go.
  9. A year of hard work and I finally got approved Friday. I got my surgery date of December 9th this morning!!! I am so excited to begin this new journey.

I want that experience too so that is not crazy TracyW2!!!!
  11. I started this process back in February with one surgeon and a nightmare later am on my 2nd surgeon. The 1st knowingly kept telling me that they were going to be In Network with my insurance by the time I finished my 6 month doctor evaluated diet in May. Didn't happen...Long story short I finally had to go to another surgeon at the end of October. After only 2 1/2 half weeks with the new surgeon I have done all the other requirements of the insurance company and they have submitted my paperwork to them. I see the surgeon today and hopefully will soon have a surgery date. I can't believe I wasted all that time! Now to calm the butterflies that have erupted in my stomach!!
  12. I had a lot of people including professionals tell me the same thing, that I really should consider bypass instead of the band. However, I have decided and am sticking with my decision to have the band. I think ultimately I know in my heart what is best for me. I think you do too! Good Luck!

Anyone banded by Dr. Provost in Denton

Dr. Provost is a wonderful doctor and I would recommend him to anyone. HOWEVER, his staff is Awful! After 8 months of the run around with them, I finally had to go to a different surgeon. What they couldn't seem to get together has taken the new Doctor's staff less than 2 weeks to accomplish and I am scheduled for the 1st week of December.

    Define "pre-op diet"

My doctor requires a 2 week pre-op low carb diet but since I am so heavy stated that it wouldn't hurt for me to start it now. My insurance is apparently one that is quick to approve so figures I will be on it about a month total. That was Wednesday. So I started it this morning. Went cold turkey no caffeine per my surgeon too. Needless to say I am not a pleasant person to be around today. I think the diet is around 1100-1200 calories. Doesn't feel like much at all. It better seriously shrink my liver. I just keep reminding myself it is all worth it!

    June 2009 Surgery

Saw surgeon yesterday, with approval, plan is mid June. Surgeon gave me a pre-op diet but not a liquid diet thank goodness!!! He said he found most do not follow the liquid diet anyway so he does an extremely low carb diet and it does the same thing. Told me it wouldn't hurt to start it right away so I decided why not. I am headed to the grocery store this afternoon for the pre-op diet foods and keeping the cell phone by my side for the final insurance approval call...fingers are crossed!
  16. Congrats!!! I am in the waiting for approval stage myself. I too began this journey over a year ago so I hope to be right behind you. Good luck!!
  17. You have made a big first step and that is getting the help you need in to succeed. Good luck and remember you have all the support you could ever need right here!
