banded monday sept 14th
amwash23 replied to slumberdream's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How long after surgery should we be worried about getting a blood clot? When are we out of the danger zone? I was banded on the 14th, and wasn't very active until Friday when I went back to work. I also did a lot of walking and driving yesterday as well. Also, I don't know if this would have helped, but my doctor gave me a blood thinner before surgery as well....is this common? -
That is good to know, because I have been struggling to get mine in, both water and protein. I just feel full all the time, and I guess I am also scared to throw up like I have heard other people do---so it's probably more mental than anything. I had mine on Monday, so the swelling should be going down, I am trying everyday to get more and more water down...not doing as well with my Protein shakes, but I am working on that too. :blushing:

passing no gas...is that bad?
amwash23 replied to Queen Bee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Monday and have been passing serious gas, but have not had a BM.....I wasn't a daily BM person before, but I think it has been years since I have gone a full week without one. I haven't taken my meds in 2 days, so should I just wait or call the dr? -
Lap Band while a full time student - possible?
amwash23 replied to treyes628's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All of this info has helped me too. I was banded on Monday and I work full time from 8-5 and then go to school Mon-Thurs from 5:30-8:15 full time as well. I took this week of, but am hoping I will able to jump right into school next week. I usually have to do a lot of walking to classes (take the rail to school) but I think if I drive instead, I can get back to my walking and extra "exercise" the next week. This busy schedule really made my pre-op diet very easy, and I am hoping it will be just helpful now that I am newly banded; especially during the next 2 weeks. -
I was just banded on Monday, and are really nervous about the hair loss. I read that it is due to protein deficiency. I am really nervous about that because it has been hard for me to get my protein shakes down this week, and even my water....I haven't been hungry at all, and it just seems like after a few sips of anything I feel super full like I just ate Thanksgiving dinner. Is this because of the swelling, will it get better? How much are you supposed to be able to drink at a time? It took me two days to finish a 20oz bottle of water, so I am nervous about getting dehydrated too.

How long did you have to take off work?
amwash23 replied to AnastaysaMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that it depends on how you feel. I just had my surgery this past Monday and went back to work on Friday, he told me I couldn't even drive until Friday so that's why I decided to go back then. I probably should have just waited it out through this weekend to rest up even a little more. -
banded on 9/16 please tell me it is worth it...
amwash23 replied to kristik99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 14th, but my doctor gave me a nausea patch while still in the hospital so I did not experience that part. But I agree with everyone else, stick to it....I have already lost 5 pounds this week alone!! Just do as everyone else says and stick with it, their posts are helping me to adjust as well. I am already back at work today, but then again I have a desk job. I suppose I could have waited until Monday, but staying in the house was making me stir crazy!! -

Must everything be sugar free??
amwash23 replied to abercchic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me the main reason they want us to choose SF products is because sugar makes you crave more sugar or other carbs. It's about breaking the cycle, but I agree with everyone else. In moderation you should be able to eat anything you want. -
Breathing tube question
amwash23 replied to gbakerc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Monday, and they told me that I would be awake when they removed the tube, but that I would still be under some of the anesthesia so I probably wouldn't realize it. To tell you the truth I don't remember them taking it out, I just remember having an oxygen mask on my face when I finally came to. My throat is a little scratchy though. -

HI, I was banded this morning too. I am a little sore as well, but I feel fine. My gas actually isn't that bad, but I also took 2 gas X strips as soon as I got in the car on the way home. I have been taking my medicine every 4 hours too, so I think that is helping to keep my pain minimized. My mom went with me, and she said they told her I had a small hiatal hernia too, but they told her it only required like one stitch or something like that.....anyways, good luck with everything. Glad to be apart of the banded club!! -

Is anyone keeping their surgery a secret?
amwash23 replied to Dreamjeans's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only told my 3 closest friends and my mom and aunt and have sworn them all to secrecy. I haven't even told my boss, they just think I am taking vacation...I'd rather do that than explain why I need to use a week of sick time!! I just hate to have everyone in my business and my boss is the biggest gossip of the bunch, and also because there is someone else in the office who has already been banded and I notice how everyone (myself included) analyzes every single thing that she puts in her mouth. I will say though, that it has been good watching her because I know not what to do....she lost weight at first, but has not been losing anymore and almost looks like she is gaining. I have never seen her eat a vegetable and though I don't know how she manages she eats larger portions and the wrong foods. She claimed she would get re-motivated once her daughter had her gastric bypass surgery but its been 2 months and we haven't noticed any changes in her eating.....sheesh, I feel like a gossip ....but it's only the stuff I have picked on and the things I have promised myself I won't do. I say if you want to tell people it's up to you...but if you choose to shout it out on the roof tops to everyone, make sure you actually stick with!! -

I am having my surgery tomorrow at 8am and I am super nervous too....excited but nervous. My doc hasn't said anything to me about magneisum caltrate so I'm not sure about that one. Good luck with your surgery though. -
Hi, I am a junior at UHD in Houston, TX majoring in Finance and minoring in Accounting. I am 29 (guess this is my last year in this thread) and am getting banded on Monday, Sept. 14. I must say that due to working full time and going to school full time my pre-op diet has been extremely easy!! Looking forward to see how everyone is progressing. Congrats to all.

September 2009 Band Date
amwash23 replied to ashleysara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, My surgery is scheduled for Monday morning (Sept 14) at 8am and I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I have been on my pre-op diet for about 2 1/2 weeks which consists of 2 protein shakes, 1 cup of fruit, and 1 meal of lean meat and green veggies a day and have lost 10 pounds....I am worried though because in the last couple of days I have gained 3 pounds (I was down 13lbs). I am hoping it is because I started my period on Tuesday, but tomorrow is my last day, so hopefully by surgery on Monday I will be back down. Thanks for all the great tips about the heating pad, and mini bowls/silverware. Congrats to all of you who have already been banded as well as those of you who are yet to be banded. -

I am so excited, I have scheduled my appointment for Sept 14. They wanted to do it on Aug 24 but since someone else will be out on vacation in my office, I couldn't do it. But Sept works for me too. I can't wait, I officially start my pre-op diet on Aug 26, but think I may start that even earlier to increase pre-op weight loss....Yippee!! I am so excited.Congrats to everyone, and I can't wait to join the club!! -
I am going with True Results and my doctor is Ken Hollis in Houston,TX. I have read some of the other posts and have heard some good things about him. I am excited because I originally tried to go with Journeylite and was very disappointed with them so I switched to True Results. I am so glad I did it because I already feel 100% sure about the staff, facility, and safety. FYI we are in the same height/weight neighborhood I am 5'7 330 pounds....

I totally understand what you are saying, and am in the beginning stages of this process myself. I have had my first consultation, seminar and I meet the requirements, my status is pending insurance approval. I have been having the same problems as you with my cravings and diet completely out of control, but I KNOW I can do it and WILL do it with the band...you WILL do it too!! Good luck with everything.:juggle:

Hello everyone, I have had my first consultation with True Results and my status is "pending insurance approval." I have had nothing but good experiences with True Results so far and hope it continues. I met Beatrice this past weekend when I attended the seminar; I also met Toni when I had my initial consultation and she was great too. I previously started out at Journeylite but they did not follow up with me or ever schedule a consultation with me after the seminar as they stated. I didn't hear anything for over a month and when I finally did call they told me I would just have to follow the 6 month plan...all this with out a consultation. That is when I ended up at True Results!! I am excited for myself and everyone who has or will have the surgery as well. Good luck everyone.
