Hey friends, I had the lap band for 5 years. food would always get stuck, and then come up. I got to a point where I couldn't keep anything down due to slippage so I had the band out after being hospitalized for dehydration. Fast forward 18 months and even though I worked hard to keep it off (diet, counseling, meds for BED), I put on enough weight to be eligible for another surgery. I had the bypass (my second WLS) done on Oct. 28. I have had 2 instances since my RNY where I thought I was eating the right amount and I thought I was not going too fast (eggs and tilapia respectively, both on my approved list), but I got the stuck feeling again and had to vomit it back up. It is almost identical to what I felt for years with the band, only more uncomfortable and it lasts longer. I'm pretty sick of the feeling and my question is, as I heal and adjust to the bypass, does it get better? Please tell me it does. Thanks! Does food getting stuck get better?
twhy48 replied to twhy48's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I should have been more specific. My question is for gastric bypass forum. I am particularly interested in hearing if things improve and when I might be able to expect that. My last episode with being stuck (this morning) happened after I ate 1/4 cup of flaky tilapia in a thin sauce. I used a baby spoon and chewed every bit at least 30 times. Directions are being followed. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Tips for getting all your water in
twhy48 replied to Alexis99's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I drink 16 oz when I first wake up. Then I try to be sure to drink 16 oz before lunch. This way, I am halfway through and I have the whole afternoon, evening, and night to sip away. My surgeon said I can drink up until I have a meal, but not for 45 min after. So I will almost always finish my Water before I eat. Hope you get some better responses, cause I'll take some more advice as well! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am 2 weeks post op and having to battle with this a little bit, it is enough to be pretty uncomfortable. Any advice other than the softeners I was prescribed when I left the hospital? Water intake is good, not great - 6 glasses daily. Everything else feels just fine! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Pretty good. Get to do purée stage tomorrow. A month of liquids has been rough. Getting used to everything. No major complications. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Pre op was much harder than post op. I've managed to be pretty rock solid at post so far. I am 11 days out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

This stuff is great. They have "extra strength" versions of it so if your worried about protein, Muscle Milk will get you to where you want to be. I am 4 days post up and I got in 100 grams of protein yesterday. I drank two different Muscle Milks (one was the extra protein version), and I had 3/4 of a can of cream of chicken soup with 1tbsp of genepro non flavored protein powder. The rest of my day was water and vitamins. So far, so good! My favorite part of Muscle Milk is that it is available a lot of places. I can just grab one at Walgreens or 711 anytime! Hope that helps. Good luck everyone! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I live in Chicago and I am looking to begin this process. I just switched to HMO from PPO in January so I have yet to visit my new doctor. I would love to know the name of your doctor as it seems they were supportive (I have a BMI of 43 and I keep getting told I need to be on a 1500 calorie diet...thanks genius). I have had little support in my process up to this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
