    October 2006 Bandsters!

:phanvan Okay my friends.... I have a tale to tell! I went in for my post op appointment with my surgeon yesterday. She suggested giving me a fill early, so I agreed...now mind you I just had surgery 2 weeks ago! I have lost 20 pounds now by the way, so the band IS working! Anyway...so I get the fill....1 cc....I go home and let me tell you. I threw up SEVEN times last night! I couldn't even keep Water down! So, I called my surgeon first thing this morning, went in and had the fill removed, and now I am eating my mushies again, and feeling fine. The moral of the story is just to go slow with everything, and that we will learn by trial and error sometimes. I go back in in 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, and if I get a fill, I will request it being half of the 1cc that I got yesterday. I want to lose, but I also want to do it in a healthy way, and what I went through yesterday was not the way to go....it was awful!:think

    Hi ya'll...from TX of course!

AngelaT~ Hey! I just checked back on this thread! My surgery went great, thank you for asking! I had my surgery with Dr. Marquez here in Austin with Southwest Bariatrics at St. David's hospital on 10/19. I went back to work today after 1 week, and I feel wonderful! I haven't even weighed myself yet, but I know I have lost some...I am so curious to know how much! Hey fellow Texans!!!

    I'm with the band!

October 19th....the date that used to mean nothing to me is now going to be significant for the rest of my life! It is the day that I was banded! I am sure that with each entry I will fill in the blanks of my life and this journey. It's been a long road, lots of weight loss and gain...lots of frustration. I feel now like I have a new lease on life, a new beginning, and I did this for ME! This week my strength was tested. I had my operation, coordinated the upcoming move from my house to another one, QUIT SMOKING, that was a BIG one, stopped taking the last of my anti-depressants, and was on my period at the same time...and I handled it, and I am doing great! I am SO proud of myself, and I feel like now, I really can do anything! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Thanks Jodi~T! The good thing is that there are only two days left of the week, so at least I can have the weekend right around the corner. I don't have a lot to do beyond paperwork at the desk, so it shouldn't be too hard!

*hugs* K Star! I am sure that the infection will go away soon. On the other hand...14 pounds? That is soooo great! Kimberly150~ Hang in there! Not much longer! Believe me, the pre-op diet seems like a Las Vegas buffet compared to the liquid stage after your surgery...I'm living it! You will be fine and it is sooo worth it!

    Hey PRE Banders 2

Hey pre-banders! I was with you all just a week ago! I had a lot of frustration with the process too. I went to the seminar in June, then submitted all the paperwork in July, had to get a doctor's statement in Dallas from an old doctor (long story) which required a trip up there in August, finally got the ball rolling in September, was approved and started all my pre-op testing, and I was banded last Thursday 10/19! It was worth the wait! Hang in there and keep calling the insurance company! It will be here before you know it! Michelle Austin, Texas http://www.southwestbariatric.com/ Dr. Marquez Banded 10/19/06

YODA~ You just cracked me up!!!!! *LOL*
  14. I am taking one week off. That is how much paid time off I have, and it seems to be a perfect amount of time for me as far as my healing has been going. I will return to work this Thursday!

    October 2006 Bandsters!

threebeauties~ Hey bandsister! I hear you on missing the whole experience of eating meals and all. I am sure that will really hit me more when I start going to restaurants with my family, friends and co-workers and can't eat the things that everyone else can. Eating is a social thing for me. When I moved to Austin I enjoyed just experiencing new Mexican food places and comparing them, so much of my life is just wrapped up in all of that! I have looked at it like a new experience and new beginning now though, where I can *get to know me* on different levels now, and find other things to do with my time now! I will now have extra time and money from not eating as much (and I also quit smoking when I had surgery)! I can't wait to start finding things that interest me now besides food! I can relate to what you are saying though....(hugs)

GoAnna~ I love the way you Aussie's speak! It's so adorable...."tinned fruit"! I love it! The advice you gave is very good though. I am really looking forward to my mushies stage! It will be 8 days from now when I am clear for that, after I meet with my surgeon. In the meantime, I have been enjoying the creamed soups! And...I bought a Magic Bullet yesterday at Bed Bath and Beyond! I have never been so excited about an appliance! namazj~ Are you having your surgery tomorrow and then going back to work Friday? I am sure that is possible, but if I were you and if you can, I would take that extra day on Friday to at least carry you over to Monday through the weekend to have time to let your body heal. I am taking the whole week off. My surgery was last Thursday and I go back to work this Thursday. I think that a week is really ideal if anyone can take that amount of time. I am already feeling much better! I am bored and will be really ready to get back Thursday. My boss called me yesterday to consult with me about a client, and she said to me that I could take the rest of the week if I wanted to, but I told her "No!!! this is the most productive I have been since the day of my surgery!" So...if you can take a little time for yourself, I recommend it!

    October 2006 Bandsters!

Well, my banding was on the 19th and since it was at 3 pm, that day was shot after the whole thing. I was out of it! I did really well though, and was walking on the hospital floor that night. On Friday, I was very thirsty and it took a while until they finally did my upper GI stuff, everything checked out fine, and then I feasted on some broth, tea, Jello, and water! I felt so much better! I walked around the floor of the hospital again, then went home and rested. Yesterday I rested and rested, and today, I finally feel pretty good and somewhat normal again! There was a lot of tenderness in my tummy, but I didn't experience the bad gas pains a lot of people have talked about. I also feel okay around my port area. I did try to eat a few bites of taco bell Beans last night....bad idea! I threw them up right away! My stomach was telling me that it is not ready for that yet! I tried some cream of chicken soup though yesterday, and I know it's supposed to be all broth and popsicles, but I needed something with a little substance. Anyway...I did fine with that! I think that I will have some more of that today. I have noticed that some of you have mentioned the eating with your eyes kind of thing, I think that is going to be hard for me too! Just getting used to the fact that my tummy is so much smaller now, and that I really don't need as much. I had a dream last night that one of my friends was eating Cookies and I ate some of them! It was kind of funny! I felt full after that dream! So...from my observations, to those of you about to be banded~ 1. It seems like everyone seems to feel pretty good around the 3rd day 2. Walking does help! 3. It does take a few days to process what is happening to your body, so be patient and remember that the pain, soreness and gas is all temporary, but the weight loss is forever! Much love to all my October bandster friends!!!

I cannot believe my big day is almost here...I think I will gulp down one more bowl of broth and chase it with a popsicle before bedtime. I took my son shopping tonight for his birthday gifts, his b-day is 10/27. It was nice to have that time with him before I am bound to the bed for awhile. I took a valium...nice....I think I will sleep fine tonight ladies!

    Suggestion for Xmas Exchange

Love the idea! Another thing that would be kind of cool would be if we had some kind of list where we could say what we like, to give the people buying the gift something to go on....you know... Colors in my house are.... I collect..... My hobbies are..... etc....
