    December Bandsters in February!

yeah...that could be a factor... I haven't really had many people comment on MY loss yet...I suppose I haven't lost enough for them to really tell or something...My husband tells me all the time that he can tell, and my clothes are getting baggy, but I still don't feel like I have lost enough to think I have really lost "A LOT" per say...I think when I hit 40 lbs. it will sound like a lot to me and I will begin to think I have lost a bunch...I like 6 lbs getting to that number...so, we'll see...I seem to be slimming from the top down too...I've been told you will usually lose from the top and bottom first and work toward the middle...go figure!!!

Kirsten, it does make a difference I guess that my children are 10 and 6...I still have the "power" to say NO!!!....LOL...my family has been great about helping me still feel apart of the family meal...so i guess that's a plus...

    December Bandsters in February!

Thanks Gerbera...I think it is more the taste than the idea of actually drinking it...I have never liked the taste of Water...go figure...not that I drink sodas either, usually drink more milk, tea, juice, etc...my daughter has picked up the habit too and doesn't drink water either...not a good "like mother, like daughter" deal...I have started carrying around with me a 32 oz. container with water and my goal is to drink one in the AM and one in the PM...I tried the flavored packets that you mix in with it and I do like the lemonade flavors, so that is helping...I am hoping that if I get used to the water I will eventually get to a point that I actually crave the taste...so far, it has to be ICE cold for me to drink it, though...thanks for the advice Has anyone else noticed that with the band, your eating habits tend to rub off on your kids and you have found that they don't eat as much now that you don't...my kids have stopped snacking and are not as "hungry" as much as they were before...they really don't raid the refrig. as soon as we walk in the door, like before...I wonder if that is because they don't see me eating and really don't think about it anymore...just something I have noticed lately...

    December Bandsters in February!

Hello...fellow bandsters...would like to join you in your Feb. Challenges...if you'll have me? I have a challenge of my own that I struggle with and that is drinking water...I am not a fan of water...how do you guys make yourselves drink it (I am sure lots of you probably don't have to "make" yourself like I do) but are there any tricks or routines you would be willing to share with me?:spit:

Thanks guys for the help...just wanted to share with you all a website that I have found that is great...(you may already have come upon it)...it is www.my-calorie-counter.com it is an online journal that allows you to put in what you are eating daily and exercise and tracks the # of calories, protein, etc...that you are taking in each day...I have really gotten into it and it has helped me see when I am getting in enough calories or when my protein intake is low...it does cost a little for FULL access but you can still use it for free, just limited on what you get access to...it also tells how many calories you burn when you are doing your exercise....try it and see how you like it :hungry:

In response to an earlier reply about the number of slippages that PS has had...I got my first fill last week and had asked Dr. Keilin questions about being worried about the possiblity of slippage...(after reading about so many on this website)...and she said they had only had 3 cases...I don't know exactly how many of these they have done, but I know it is A LOT, so that is a pretty small number to me...It took away some of the concern anyway that I was having myself...she also said that if there were to be a slippage occur...you will know it...sounded pretty definite, too...

Hello to all...have been banded 5 weeks now (down 32 lbs) and am enjoying everyday that I get up and get dressed and my clothes (the ones that had gotten to be too small) are starting to be too big now...its a great feeling and makes the hard work worth it...also enjoying people noticing that something looks different about me...Went to my first support mtg last week...great experience...to meet new people and to share ideas and experiences...you really can learn from your peers...Sugarbear...glad to hear you are progressing in getting your surgery done...I thought the pre-op diet was the hardest because you can't have anything, and you know you still could if you wanted it because you don't have the band yet...its like holding a piece of steak in front of dog...just keep in mind the goal..."surgery day"...Welcome to you blondylocks...hope to hear you are getting to "surgery day" soon...this is a great group of people to get advice from...Hello Lisa...hope all is well with you too...Sorry I don't get to keep in touch very often, by the time I get home from school, and do all my "MOM & WIFE" jobs, it's late and I just don't get the chance to get on...If I have missed anyone, Hello!!! Great to see Dr. Hekier responding...that is neat to know that our doctors are keeping up with us, too.

Quick advice...something that really helped me a lot before surgery and to get myself ready for eating slow and taking small bites (I got this advice from a friend who had this done a year ago)...go buy you some baby spoons and start eating your food with them...I know it seems weird, but it helps to train yourself to eat slower and take smaller bites and you will find that you will learn to do it...then, when it comes time to eat real food again, your not trying to do this, at the same time you feel like you are going to starve...

Sorry for the ignorance, Sugarbear, just noticed you said FEB. 21st you start your pre-op diet...Keep in mind, I teach Kindergarten and it takes me a bit to get it right...

Hello all...Sorry I haven't been able to get on in a while, my computer has been on the brink and not been working right...I am so proud, Sugarbear that you are getting closer to "THE DAY"...I know you are a week down on your pre-op diet...how is it going? Just keep thinking, there is a goal and you want to reach that goal..."Day of Surgery"...I go for my first fill tomorrow...kindof nervous, not knowing what to expect and all, but I will get through it...I didn't lose this week, I hope that having a fill will help get me back to losing again...Good Luck and I will keep in touch, now that I am up and running again...

    Banded on Dec 26, 2006

Kristi...I just found your thread and wanted to let you know that I understand your confusion...I was banded on Dec. 28th and am starting to NOT lose...one day I weigh and have lost a pound or two, the next day, I have gained a pound of it back...I go for my first fill on Monday (Jan. 29) so I hope that I can begin to lose more then...

Thanks for all the well wishes...I have really worked hard to make this work...sometimes I think I am not eating ENOUGH...I am still afraid to eat more than I am supposed to, in fear of doing something wrong sometimes and then I find myself getting hungry to the point that my stomach starts growling...I wonder if when I get to start eating regular food, if I am going to be ready or still reluctant and want to eat soft and mushy...My husband got the call today that they are sending his paperwork to the insurance... our insurance paid 100% on my surgery but we don't think they will his...so, he is prepared himself for the idea that he may not get to do it, or that we may have to pay out-of-pocket...ouch!! He really only needs to lose about 45 lbs...He is a big guy (muscular), so a lot would be too much, i think...

Hello...just found you guys and am so excited to find someone who has something in common with me...I have read all of your posts and I, too, am a PS patient...I was banded on Dec. 28th and am down 28 lbs as of yesterday...(Sundays are my weighing day)...I am still learning all the things that go along with the band...My husband is working on his paperwork etc. to get the band...hopefully in the next couple of months...he has been an excellent partner in all of this...he has done the liquid, mushies, pureed, along with me so I wouldn't be tempted or discouraged...now, I guess I will have to do it with him when it is actually his turn...hahahaha...I hope we can keep this thread going because I actually feel like I could talk with you guys and feel a part of the group...Thanks...:clap2:

    First Fill Advice: No restriction

Thanks...that makes me not so nervous about what I am feeling...

    First Fill Advice: No restriction

I have a question...hopefully, not a dumb one, but, I was banded on Dec. 28th...I have read throughout the threads where if you eat too much, or too fast, that you should get sick or feel some kind of restriction. I haven't gotten sick or anything and really haven't felt a lot of pressure, just sometimes I feel as if I need to burp but nothing will happen and the pressure builds in my chest then goes away...that's all I have felt...should I be worried about not feeling very restricted from eating much or is this normal right after banding that you don't yet feel any discomfort yet? I don't know what size band I have...is it okay to assume that I don't have any restriction because I don't have any fill yet? Still confused about how I should be feeling...any suggestions?

    I'm from Tulsa, Oklahoma

Hello, I am from Southeast Oklahoma and was banded Dec. 28th...that's right...right after Christmas...I am still in the two week post-op liquid diet and I am hoping that it ends quickly...have you ever noticed that there aren't many options when you are on a liquid diet...HaHaHa Anyway, I am excited because I have already lost over 20 lbs and it has only been a week since surgery...everyone at school (I am a teacher) is very excited for me too, so they are my support group...I didn't tell anyone that I was having this done, so when we came back from the holiday break, it was a surprise...I am anxious to see how much I have lost by the time I go for my first fill...(6 weeks) Well, gotta get back to my class...they are almost finished with their snowmen pictures...Looking forward to chating with everyone!!!

    December chat

Hello again from OK! I am new here...I was banded on Dec. 28th...so this is my 3rd day...I feel pretty good and all, really haven't been hungry per say, but I have all this pressure that is terrible...I sometimes feel like I have an urge to burp and vomit at the same time...is this normal? How do you know when you have had enough to eat or drink?

    December Bandsters

Hello, from Oklahoma...I started reading alot of your posts back in June when I first started working on getting to do this...I got lots of information from everyone about it which helped me to make my decision to go through with it...After a loooong wait, I am scheduled to be "banded" on December 28th...I haven't decided yet if I am excited or nervous...I know this is going to be a BIG change and I am still sort of wondering is this a sure thing that I am going to lose the weight...I have been on the liquid diet for a week now and have lost 8 pounds...This week has been difficult because I never have realized how people can unknowingly tempt you with food...(especially during family holidays)...but I am going to make it through and with my husband's support it too shall pass...(he has been on the liquid diet with me, too, so that I am not alone...)

    Just saying Hi

Hello...I am new to this site, so forgive me if I am not quite talented to figure out how to do it...I haven't yet had the procedure done...I have an appt on Monday with the surgeon to discuss it...I have approval from my insurance already...so, I hope it won't take long to get the procedure done...what I am wondering is how long after the procedure do you really feel the weight has started coming off...
