  1. Thanks Peach! I've thought about talking to my nurse practitioner and seeing if she would make a little "error" on my weight, maybe be temporarily dislexic and make 235 into 253. But I don't think she'd go for it, my hospital is also a university and they are all about accuracy (I just had my 11th preop appointment/test this morning!) I have thought about going on base but I'm not exactly sure if I can have it done there, my husband is National Guard and he's not currently on Active duty orders. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
  2. Thanks for the tips:smile2: Unfortunately I've already done my official weigh in for the surgeon, and i'm stuck at 235. I guess now all I can do is pray and cross my fingers.
  3. So true...way to think positively about the situation. Plus I have to lose 5% of my body weight before surgey to shrink my liver which is 12 pounds, so it just gives me more time to do that.

  4. Good to hear your healing is going well. No news for me yet, I have two more tests to do and then it gets sent to insurance for approval. I'm SO sick of tests. I will have had 11 doctors appointments by the time I actually get this surgery. I would be ok with never seeing another doctor again! Anyways, can't remember if I told you or not my I guess my surgeon is booked out until september:thumbdown:

  5. I'm sad to hear about your experience with OHSU. Its really unfortunate that they would do that, especially since you/your insurance are shelling out big dollars for this! Anyways, unfortunately due to insurance requirements I have to go through OHSU, so hopefully I don't experience what you have.

  6. Hi! My PCM sent my referrel for surgery to OHSU in Portland. I know there are many other places to get it done as well. I live closer to Salem and wouldnt mind having it done at Salem Hospital for convenience but ultimately what I really want so less of a wait. Has anyone recently had surgery in the Salem/Portland area who can tell me how it went for them and how long the process with the surgeon took from start to finish? Thanks so much!
  7. Hey! I just realized today is your one month bandivarsary! Sooo....have the scales been kind to you? How are your scars and general healing?

  8. Hey there! Congrats again on your approval! A July date isn't so bad, I just found out today that after the last of my tests are completed and pending insurance approval, I'm looking at a September date:thumbdown: I guess my surgeon is booked out that far. So you weight 239 right? How tall are you ? I'm 5'2" and 235. I'm nervous about getting approved because I have comorbs but not THEIR comorbs. I have high cholesterol, acid reflux/GERD, sleep hyponea(not apea, but almost) and joint/back pain. I've heard its hit and miss with Tricare...some people get approved with no problems and others get flat denied! Anyways, good luck!:smile2:

  9. CONGTRATULATIONS!!! I have been following your progress as I also have Triwest. I weigh about the same as you so it gives me hope that I will get approved also! That is so exciting!!!
  10. Like you I am also and have been overweight/obese for most of my life. I too feel like this is my last hope; for being so young I've already tried anything I can think of to loose the weight. I haven't been banded yet but am in the process and I have been using this forum for several months now. It has been a great tool and resource for me to get questions answered and to find support. And as for worrying about the band not working...you just have to believe in it. Start off with a positive attitude, follow the surgeons directions, and keep working towards your goal and you'll get there:smile:
  11. So did you have to pay anything for your surgery? yeah it kinda sucks going through insurance but I'd rather do it than shell out 10 to 20 thousand dollars! I'm sooo excited but I dont want to get my hopes up too high until I know if I am approved or not. When do you get your first fill? Or did they fill you during surgery? I've heard surgeons do it both ways.

  12. Sorry to hear about your week. And about the mushies, thats got to be kind of nice to be able to eat something other than liquids right? I can't believe its been 3 weeks already for you. I heard back from my surgeon and have my psych evaluation, nutrition class, and appt. with the surgeon all scheduled this week. After all that is done they'll submit the request to insurance. It should happen sometime around June 12th or so. I'm crossing my fingers! I'm glad I couldg get all those appts scheduled so quickly though, I was anticipating having to wait a month or so!

  13. Hey! Haven't heard from ya in a while and I just wanted to see how things are going for you. I believe you said something about only weighing yourself once a month, are you still going to do that?

  14. Yeah I had the glue and the wires and the whole bit. Made it pretty difficult to sleep. They are interesting indeed. Well I guess now I'm at a stand still, I'm just waiting to get my medical records in the mail and then I'll send everything off to the surgeon.

  15. Well, I just went to a seminar yesterday that is required by the hospital I'm going through. It was lame. And I spent all day today getting my medical records from my doctors and putting together the packet that i have to turn back into the hopsital. Lots of work. And tonight I have a sleep study. I wish the whole process were much more simple, I'm so impatient. I also kinda feel like my hopsital isnt willing to help a whole lot; I've kind of been left by myself to do a lot of things and you know I've never done this before so i dont know what the heck I'm doing. But I'm slowly getting things crossed off the list, so I'm getting there

  16. Haha...my name is Elizabeth. Liz works too. Thats good it sounds like your recovery has been pretty smooth. And whether the scale is accurate or not, 4.4 pounds is awesome. I'd love to see that on my scale lol. It would be pretty hard for me to only weight myself once a month...but it would also be so exciting to see the drop in numbers each time

  17. Hey just checking in to see how things are going. hows the hunger? and have you lost any yet?

  18. milwif

    I want to give up

You have only had one fill since your surgery? That is probably your first problem. You have no restriction! I'm sure after your fill in June you will be doing much better. As for feeling like a failure...22 pounds lost is much better than nothing at all. You are not a failure until you have completely given up hope. But as long as you are trying, you should be proud of yourself. A lot of people lose very slowely anyways. You might try working out to help speed it along, I've also heard of people doing a combination of lap band/weight watchers or low carb. This could help get the ball rolling.Good luck and hang in there!
  19. Hi there! I came across your stats and I must tell you, we are built EXACTLY the same. Of course you're banded now and I'm not yet so you're smaller than me now. But i am 5'1 and weight about 230. It gives me hope because I'm worried about getting approved

  20. Hi Jenai

So i read that you were going through OHSU for your surgery. Did that end up happening? If so, what was your experience like? Did you have a long wait? Were your appointments scheduled quickly? I guess my biggest concern is that I will have to go on a waiting list or something, and everything so far feels like its been wait wait wait. My consultation is with Dr. Deveney and I haven't heard a whole lot about him either. Any info is appreciated!

  21. A year oh man you must have great patience. Well my insurance company wouldnt really be able to do anything if it turns out there is a waiting list. The only thing I can do is see if they can move mo to another surgeon but then I would have to do all the preops all over again...and that might end up taking just as much time. But we'll see how it all goes, I dont know for sure if I have to wait or not. So how is your pain level? and when do you plan on going back to work or getting up and active again?

  22. Congratulations!!! I'm happy for you, you are going to start to see great changes! i so wish I could just have the surgery already. I just found out that there might be a 3 month waiting list for my surgeon. UGH!!

  23. Hi Astera. I'm also going through OHSU for my surgery. I don't have a date yet but I noticed that yours was around 3 months out. I was wondering why your wait is so long?? Is it because they are just booked and there is a waiting list or because of conflicts with your schedule. I really don't want my date to be that far out...especially since I might not have insurance by that piont.

  24. Hey looks like your surgery is today!! Hope all went well!

  25. Ah I see. We don't have anything like that here. You either use your insurance or you pay for it out of pocket. Is the care you get just as good if you choose to go puclic? That is so exciting about your surgery being tomorrow!!! You must be thrilled. Good luck I'll keep you in my thoughts during the day.

I personally am working on getting all of my preop appointments taken care of. I've done my blood work and have the sleep study and seminar scheduled. after these things get done the surgeon send it off to insurance and they'll approve me for surgery or not. I hope to God they do! I hate all the waiting, I wish I could just get everything done right now and know whether I could get the surgery or not. I've been through all this before, back in December I tried but my insurance denied me. I have other insurance now, the insurance they give the military(my husband is in the Army) and it's great coverage so my chances of getting approved are so much better.
