  1. Wow just one week? you got your date quick. I guess just prepare yourself mentally for surgery and for life after and how much it will change. Also some places do a preop diet or want you to lose weight. my surgery is in two weeks so you'll have to let me know how it goes for you
  2. Congratulations Morgan!! Isn't it a great feeling? Now you have to start getting nervous again...only this time it's not for your approval, it's for surgery!
  3. I'd say not longer than one week. Mine took 3 days I think.

Help! Need to lose weight quick!

Yeah my surgeon requires a class and several visits with a nutritionist, so I've been prepping for post op diet for a while now. I think I'll do a liquid/mushies type diet to get the weight off quick, I'm sure that will do the trick. Thanks!
  5. So my surgery date is in 3 1/2 weeks and my surgeon tells me I need to lose 12 pounds before then. Of course he told me this a month ago so I should have been able to lose it by now but....I've only lost maybe 4 pounds. I suck at losing weight. I guess thats why I'm getting this surgery anyways, right? Anywho, so now It's crunch time and my surgeon basically said that if I don't lose this weight, they will postpone my surgery so I'm looking for some tips on what to do here. I hate quick diets, I'm sure we all do because they obviously failed us in the past, but I need some help!

Help! Need to lose weight quick!

    Woops....minor detail that makes a big difference....my surgery is 2 1/2 weeks away, not 3 1/2!
  7. Thats great that you have some cash flow now:) I don't know what it's like in Australia, but in the US times are a little tough and I count myself lucky to have a job! How is the band?

  8. Morgan- It seems to me like you have a good chance at getting approved, and if you don't, I'm sure you could appeal it and get approved. Dr's can be so frustrating can't they? My surgeons office took forever to collect all the information and send it out. The good news is, once it's submitted Tricare doesn't take long to respond!
  9. 25 pounds thats great! What is different or unsuspected about it? It sounds like maybe you don't like it as much as you thought you would?

  10. Congratulations on your surgery date! I have surgery scheduled for Sept. 24th. We can be band buddies!

Here Are The Requirements For Tricare

I would call Tricare and/or your Dr. and ask them. I got all of my tests and my Lap Band literature prior to actually getting approved.

Here Are The Requirements For Tricare

Jade-thats correct. Your doctor faxes the referred request directly to Tricare and you are notified when it gets approved, online and by mail. Shannon-It depends on what your surgeon requires. My surgeon wanted a lot from me, I had almost a dozen "test" type appointments before they'd even send it to Tricare for approval. However, once it was sent I got my answer from Tricare in just 3 days.
  13. Congratulatios on your great success! You look fantastic. You have accomplished almost exactly what I want to do, go from 230 to 130 in a year or less. I do have one question though, with the weight coming off so fast, do you have any loose skin at all? I'm pretty worried about this
  14. how much do you weight and how tall are you? And are you basing this off the Metlife chart? From what I've heard, Tricare is pretty strict about the 100 pound weight requirement. I know some people on here who gained a few pounds or wore ankle weights when they weight in to secure that requirement, you might look into that.
  15. Yes I'm totally exited. My date is sept. 25, a little ways away but i can wait. I don't have a preop diet or anything, thank God.

I didn't know you were working. Where do you work?

  16. I was just sure I'd get denied and have to appeal it, but suprisingly I was approved the first time with no problem at all! My cholesterol was a little bit high, and I have sleep hypopnea which is like the beginning of sleep apnea, and thats really it. I have joint pain but not arthritis. So really I didn't have Tricare's comborbs at all. I might have squeezed into the 200% range though...I think my surgeon specified that I was small framed. I'm 5'2", and was 235 when they sent the referrel. Hope that helps!
  17. Hey just checking in to see how things are going, how's the band? Are ya making progress? I finally got my approval, yay! took freaking forever. I guess my surgeon is going to be Wolfe now instead of Deveney, didn't you have Wolfe?

  18. My husband is in the National Guard so I'm based right here at home:smile2: I live in a small town near Salem, OR but my hubby is from Bellingham. Thats about all I know of WA, are you near there at all?
  19. Hi! I was just reading up on your story, I'm sorry you got denied:( but I've heard if you appeal you have a pretty good chance of getting approved. Good luck to you!

  20. I've never heard this, read this, or been told this. The only thing I can think of that even remotely relates to this is that perhaps if you are under 25 you are apt to have less associated medical conditions. I for example, don't have diabetes or arthritis YET, but I'm sure without surgery, I would in the future. I'm 21, and I got approved with no problems at all.
  21. I just checked the Triwest website and there it was! my APPROVAL!! I haven't been on LBT a whole lot lately because I was beginning to get discouraged but now that I have been approved I have so much to look forward to! Oh and for others with Tricare...the authorization was submitted August 5th and I got my approval August 8th...it was really quick. My initial consultation was back in March, what took so long was the surgeon and hospital I'm using. When I went to schedule almost every single appointment, my wait was outrageous. Tricare has been nice and quick with referrals the entire time. I wish others with Tricare the best of luck!
  22. Hey girl! How goes it? Just wanted to let you know, I just got approved for surgery! Yay!!

    New to Tricare

When you sign up for Tricare, depending on the day the paperwork is submitted, your activation date is usually within a couple of weeks. I think this info might be on Tricare's website. My husband and I were enrolled in Tricare and I think my first consultation for the band was about a week later. So the wait really isn't too bad. Good luck!
  24. Hey! Just thought I'd check in on ya and see how you're doing. I read your blog about your fill, that sucks. How are you doing as far as weight loss goes? 8 cc's seems like a lot to have just two months out. Well hope all is well.

  25. Alrighty so I tried asking my NP if she thought I had a decent chance of getting approved through tricare(triwest) with my stats and she was no help at all! So I thought I'd ask you fine people your opinions. Be honest... I'm 21, been overweight all my life. 5'2" 235 pounds, small framed. My comorbs include elevated cholesterol, back and joint pain, skin sores, and sleep hypopneas(not apnea.) Unfortunately I don't have their exact list of comorbs thats my biggest worry. However since I'm small framed I can maybe squeeze into the 200% over my ideal weight catergory, depending on how Tricare sees it. So anyways, I'd greatly appreciate all your guys' input. I've heard lots of different things about Tricare, some say they're picky, some say they had no problems!
