    February 2007 bandsters!

I did have a few nights where I couldn't sleep for various reasons. First couple of nights, I just didn't feel that tired. I'd doze for awhile, then wake up and not even be sleepy, and end up laying there for what seemed like hours. If that wasn't the case, then I'd wake up and just be too uncomfortable to sleep. My back hurt so bad from trying to sleep flat on my back, but it hurt to try laying on my side.... I'd be laying there, unable to get up on my own without really hurting, so I'd lay there and debate with myself over whether I was uncomfortable enough to wake up my DH to help me get out of bed.... LOL!

    February 2007 bandsters!

Redfred, I was able to sleep on my side at around day 10, with a very soft pillow for support against my tummy. It's still a LITTLE bit uncomfortable, but not enough to keep me from sleeping on my side. I have a terrible time sleeping on my back, I snore like a freight train when I do, and I don't get good sleep.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Tamara, your doctor should have sent you home with instructions for an eating plan. Mine was 3 days of CLEAR liquids, then 2 weeks of FULL liquids, then 2 weeks of MUSHIES, then solid food. Seems like every surgeon is different in what their schedule is like, but they all have the same theme, just with different time tables. And hang in there, my 3rd day post op was probably the hardest. The gas pains are helped by walking, rocking, or using a heating pad. The motion of your body keeps it from "settling" in one place and becoming painful. I just alternated between pacing around my house and sitting in my rocker/recliner with a heating pad. Take some liquid Tylenol if you have some. I had liquid Lortab, too, but I found I didn't really need it, the Tylenol helped enough to get me through. Hang in there, you'll make it! (((hugs)))

    hey everyone

I was off for a week, and I have a desk job as well. I did ok my first day back, just had some back pain, just stiff from being in the same position all day, and had to get up and walk around periodically to relieve some residual gas pains. After that, though, I did just fine at work, no problems! I would recommend taking a lumbar pillow or other small pillow to put in your chair to lean on, and maybe some liquid tylenol in case you are still sore. Beyond that, you should be ok. Good luck in your journey!

Welcome! This thread has totally been my lifeline since being banded!!! So many of us are going through the same things! It's been a great source of help for so many of us!

    February 2007 bandsters!

Ummmm.... The pre-made puddings are ok, if you eat them slowly. Cream of Wheat, Grits, and Malt-O-Meal are ok, if you add a little skim milk or water to them to thin them up a bit. Just GO SLOWLY!!! Take very small bites, and STOP when you're not hungry any more. (notice I didn't say "full") This is very important so you don't stretch your pouch, and you don't dislodge the stitches placed in your stomach to hold the band in place. Good luck on Tuesday, and make sure you stop by here and let us know how you're doing! Oh, and GOOD LUCK to everyone being banded this week!!

    February 2007 bandsters!

I still have a little trouble with applesauce, I think it's more of a mushy. I still can't finish 1/4 cup of it before it feels like I swallowed a golf ball, and even that takes me about 30 minutes.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi, mcwms! About your parents, I felt the same way you did, I really thought it would take them a while to realize that this is for the best, and that they would eventually support me, but they were thrilled when I told them what I was doing, and they are so excited for me to begin my new journey. You might be pleasantly surprised by your parent's reaction. They only want what's best for you! Make sure that you give them the link to obesityhelp.com or some other reputable lap-band website so they can do their own research, and that will help with the questions that they'll have. Good luck!!

    Just banded 2/15

Call your doctor and see if you can get something for the nausea if you still have it. There are several options out there for nausea, and there's no reason to have to live with it. (((hugs))) You'll get through this!!

    Just banded 2/15

Ok, the first few days (maybe 4 or 5 days) after surgery, I would sip just a little bit of liquid, and it would feel like I swallowed a golf ball. I just had to sip very slowly, wait several minutes, and sip a little more. It does get better, I can now drink pretty normally, and I'm doing well on the full liquids. Hang in there, it does get better!

    Just banded 2/15

I would think you shouldn't be "eating" quite yet, I was banded on 2/5 and am STILL on full liquids (cream Soup, Protein shake, etc). What kind of post op diet does your surgeon recommend?

    Post Op: Day 3

You'll be fine in a few days. I was able to get out of bed without pain on about day 5 or 6. You can connect with other people just going through all this on the February 2007 Bandsters thread. See you there! Welcome to bandland!!!!

I might be the wrong person to ask, as I really HATE soup from a can. HOWEVER....The Campbell's Restaurant quality soups are the "Select" line of soups. The only one I can stand is the Golden Butternut Squash one. The rest are not up my alley. The same applies to the Soup at Hand, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Velvety Potato, and I always put a little shredded cheddar in it....Otherwise, they're pretty much not my thing. Those just happen to be the ones that I personally have been living on for the past week... But only because I had to go back to work, and haven't had time to make my own homemade soups. I will be making a few different soups this weekend, to get me through the next week, until I can move on to mushies.... AND, all that being said, I doubt very much if I continue to buy them once I'm past the full liquids phase of my diet, with very few exceptions, partly because they don't keep me feeling full very long, and partly because I can do better than that! Cheers!!

Ready to Lose, Here are some of my very favorite things right now: :hungry: Campbell's Soup at hand Velvety Potato with a bit of shredded cheddar cheese melted in it...mmmmmm! 1/2 cup cottage cheese blended with 1 cup tomato juice until smooth....(lots of protein) Watered down cream of wheat or malt-o-meal Campbell's Golden Butternut Squash Restaurant quality soup I had some runny mashed potatoes and brown gravy last night, and afterwards I didn't feel that great. I don't know if I ate too much of it, or if it just didn't sit well.:speechles I did find out that I'm diabetic a few days before surgery, so I can't wait to move to some foods that are lower in carbs. This thread was such a lifesaver for me when I was recovering that first week. I could come on here and see that there were others that felt exactly the same way I was feeling, and that gave me such comfort, and hope, because there were people who had their surgery just a few days before me, and they had felt the same way, and were past it already... Such a relief to know that everything I was going through was "normal"!! :clap2:

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi, everybody! I thought I'd take a few minutes and post an update! I'm feeling great! I still have little twinges of pain in my port area, but other than that, I'm mostly pain free! What a difference! Every single day, I've felt better and better. I can even sleep on my side now without pain or discomfort! WOO-HOO!!! I'm still on the full liquid diet, and I've started adding a few mushies to it, although I'm thinning them down to almost soup consistency before I eat them. I was getting tired of the protein shakes, so I've started blending 1/2 cup of cottage cheese with 1 cup of tomato juice. Not for everybody, but I sure like it, and it has a lot of protein! I hope all the newest bandsters are feeling good, just try to remember it DOES get better! (((hugs))) to everyone newly banded this month, and to all who are still waiting....

We were banded the same day, and I'm in the same boat. My follow up isn't until Feb. 26, but I was thinking about calling to ask if this is normal...

    February 2007 Bandsters Unite!

After being wheeled into the OR, they pushed the gurney over next to a table, asked me to scootch over to the table, had to reposition myself a bit, lay down, there's lots of activity in the room, most of which I couldn't see, one person took my right arm and positioned it comfortably, another person was putting inflatable balloon-thingy's on my lower legs and getting that part of me comfy, another person took my left arm and positioned it comfortably, and was putting a blood pressure cuff on, the anesthesiologist put a mask with 100% oxygen over my nose/mouth, and said to breathe deep, and then I was on my way to dreamland. Total time elapsed? Maybe 2 minutes, max. You'll do great! (((hugs)))
