    February 2007 bandsters!

I posted about this very issue a few days ago, I think in this thread. My doc told me that at some point (it's different for everyone) before my first fill, I will get VERY hungry, and will be able to eat more than I think I should be able to. All this means is that the swelling is going down from surgery. He said that this is very normal, and even expected. Ask your doc when you can schedule your first fill. It's usually around 6 weeks after surgery to be sure that ALL the swelling has gone down and you're completely healed from surgery. My best advice is to be patient with yourself, and don't stress too much about how much you're able to eat, especially since you're only 2 weeks post-op. You're still healing, and you need proper nutrition to do that. Hang in there, you'll make it!

    February 2007 bandsters!

Ok, so I live 30 minutes away from where I work, and Curves is near where I work. SO, yesterday, I didn't bring my workout clothes, but I decided enough excuses, so I went to Kmart at lunch and bought a $6 pair of shorts and worked out after work. I brought my shorts today, and I am looking forward to my workout tonight. (for the whole 30 minutes!)

    Positive Support

I've been thinking about this post, and I just wanted to chime in again and let you know that if you decide to go ahead with your surgery, you couldn't find a better support system than the one we have here. I also hope that you have a strong support system at home, as well. It can be done without the support of your family and friends, but it's easier with their support. Good luck and keep us posted!

    February 2007 bandsters!

LOL I love this thread! It's flat out gorgeous today here in north central Kansas, so I'm going walking on my lunch break, too! I've had a Curves membership for about 7 months now, and I've had every excuse in the book to not go. Well, I'm re-committing to make myself go at LEAST 3 times a week, and I'm aiming for 4 or 5. I really love the ladies there, no one ever makes you feel like you shouldn't be there, they're always encouraging, and they always have a smile on! GO ME!!! Oh, by the way, I had a MAJOR NSV last night! I went down a pant size!!!!!! I'm down from a very tight 24 stretch to a very comfy 22!!!!!!! WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    dumb question about water

No idea. My doc told me that he WANTS me to drink at least 8 ozs of Water, tea or other non-caloric liquid right before I eat, and once I pick up my fork or spoon to eat, to stop drinking until 30 to 45 minutes after I finish eating. He says that when the stomach is empty, and you drink, that the Fluid should pass through the band, and shouldn't interfere with a meal eaten afterward. Sorry I couldn't really answer your question.

Easterner? LOL! I'm in Kansas, smack dab in the center of the country... Just as far from the East coast as from the West! Hahaha. Good luck finding your prune yogurt. Look for Dannon Activia brand, and you might find what you're looking for.

First, what ideas do you have about the surgery? It is a real surgery, and there are risks of complications, and everyone has their own experience. Some people bounce right back within a few days, and others take a little longer. I haven't really seen anyone having post-op problems much past the second or 3rd week, though. Unless you count not knowing what to eat, how much to eat, when to eat, etc.... As for weight loss, it seems that the rate of weight loss varies SO much from person to person, that there's no good answer for that question. I have been banded since Feb 5, and have lost 30 lbs. I could never have done that pre-band. So I feel that I've made the right decision for ME, but you're the one that has to decide if it's right for YOU. Most people here are very supportive, and are willing to share their experiences. Good luck!

If you have a Dillon's, they carry Kroger brand as well. Happy hunting!

    February 2007 bandsters!

Seems like we're on the same track.... I've lost right around 30 lbs since the pre-op diet, as well, and was banded on the same day. I am starting to be able to eat pretty normally now, which is a bit worrisome, but it's still WAY WAY less than I would have eaten before banding, and my first fill is scheduled for March 30. For lunch, I had 2 wasa crackers, both topped with a slice of swiss cheese and a few slices of deli-thin sliced ham, and was very full. It's still a challenge some days to drink all the water I'm supposed to drink, but most days, I at least come close. I aim for getting around 1200 calories a day, because if you consume less than that, your body goes into starvation mode and hangs on even more stubbornly to any fat reserves that it has. My doc said that I should expect very little restriction once the swelling goes down (which apparently it has), and to expect to be hungry, and that it's perfectly fine to feel that way, and to go ahead and eat a little more, so that I'm satisfied. That's what the fills are for. That being said, I still find myself being able with very little effort to keep my calorie intake between 1200 and 1500/day. I track my food intake on www.fitday.com, and that has helped me a lot. I don't have to try to remember how many calories was in this or that, it keeps track for me. And once you add in a custom food in case it's not built in already, it stays in there, so you can use it again and again. I hope this helps! Can you believe it's been over 5 weeks now since we were banded?

    Newly banded

    What questions do you have?
  16. Try not to stress too much about this, as most of us find that these difficulties are usually short-lived. You'll be back to sleeping as normal in no time.

    Cake

Be careful, though. If someone you work with happens to be diabetic and you say something like that, they're likely to ask you questions about how high your sugars are usually, and whether you're on medications yet, and what kind of diet your doctor has you on. I work with 3 diabetics out of 5 people in my department. They'd smell that lie a mile away.

    Anti-Semitism In France!

Ron, the bible very clearly states that we will be held accountable for EVERY word we speak. As a Christian, yes, you will be accountable for everything you say. You can't control what anyone else says or does, just be responsible for your own actions.

synicalchic, my neck was sore for a few days, too, from being in one position for so long. That will resolve in a few days as you become more active. As for the breathing, I wasn't short of breath, but I noticed for a while that my chest was sore, and it was a little painful to take a deep breath.

    Encouragement for all nervous newbies

Ready To Lose, You just made me feel like I'm right on track. I lost 10 lbs on the pre-op diet, and I've lost 16 lbs since banding. Haven't had anything get stuck yet, no PB's yet. Really, NO problems to speak of. My port site still hurts a bit, but only if I twist or bend wrong, or the cat steps on it....LOL! I agree with you, I'm more than happy to share my experience with anyone who wants to know, if it will help them in their journey. Thanks for the post!

    Special K Protein Water

I haven't wasted any money on these because I don't care for sweet drinks, and there's only 5 grams of protein in them, anyway, in that big old bottle. Not enough protein to justify it for me.
