    For Your Liquids----tea

The absorbtion issues are because of the caffiene in tea. If you stick with decaffienated tea or teas which are naturally caffiene free, you can drink it to your heart's desire. I'd be careful with all the herbs, though, some of them don't mix. Get a good herb reference book to see which ones work well with each other, and which ones to steer clear of.

    Bad Breath! Why?

The Chlorophyll also comes in liquid form, which tastes good mixed in iced tea. It has a very subtle mint flavor, but it's not sweet at all. I think the brand name is Nature's Sunshine. I've only ever gotten it online.

    Feb 2007 Bandsters: April Challenge

I'm walking my butt off, and drinking so much water that I can hardly make it back from my walk without having to walk funny, 'cause I have to pee!!! I've been walking (very briskly) for 15 minutes on my morning break, at least 15 minutes on my lunch hour, and another 15 minutes on my afternoon break. Every weekday, anyway. I'm really bad about posting on this thread, but I'm still hanging in there for the challenge!
  5. Here's a wonderful chicken recipe that everyone asks me to make constantly: Garlic Lime Chicken Serves 6 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon pepper 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 1/4 teaspoon paprika 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 1/2 teaspoon thyme 6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves 2 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons olive oil 1/2 cup chicken broth 4 tablespoons lime juice In a bowl, mix together first 7 ingredients. (hint: I triple or quadruple the spices, and put them in a shaker with large holes so I don't have to get them all out every time I make this recipe, and then just sprinkle it on the chicken to taste. It's pretty spicy, so that way I can adjust it to the taste of the people I'm making it for.) Sprinkle mixture on both sides of chicken breasts. In a skillet heat butter and olive oil together over medium high heat. Saute chicken until golden brown, about 5 minutes on each side. Turn down the heat, remove the chicken (keeping warm) and add the lime juice and chicken broth to the pan, whisking up the browned bits off the bottom of the skillet. Keep cooking until sauce has reduced slightly. Add chicken back to the pan to thoroughly coat and serve. (I let it cook until dry, it adds tons more flavor to the chicken, and it browns up very nicely.) sorry about the dup post, the forum hiccuped on me...

    talking to my young children

I partially agree with everyone here. They'll want to know what's going on when you go for your surgery, so you'll have to tell them about that. You do not, however, have to tell them what it's for, specifically, just that you need to have some surgery to be healthy. And then as far as anything else, only tell them what they need to know IF and when they ASK. Good luck with your decision!

    diabetic bandsters

Susie, I, too, was diagnosed with diabetes during my pre-op testing. My PCP decided that since I was having the lap band surgery, to wait and see how my new eating habits coupled with regular exercise and weight loss would affect my blood sugar, rather than start me on meds. He hooked me up with a dietician who educated herself about the lapband, and she hooked me up with a glucose meter, and advised me about what to look for in high and low blood sugar. So far my blood sugar is mostly normal with a few spikes. The highest spike is 180, and the average spike is around 130. Which they were both happy with, so far, and I'm scheduled to have my A1C tested again in a few weeks. I'm confident that I won't need meds to control my blood sugar. I don't know how high your blood sugar has been, and your doctor might be doing the very best thing for you. Talk to your doctor about it, ask lots of questions, and educate yourself about it. Knowledge is power. Here's a great website to get you started. www.diabetes.org Good luck, and keep us posted! Feel free to PM me if you want.

    Hiccups

I don't get "the hiccups" but I'll hiccup a couple of times in a row several times a day. Enough that I have had people comment about it. "You sure do hiccup a lot!" Stuff like that. It doesn't hurt after a couple of weeks post-op unless it's a really deep hiccup. But those hurt before surgery, too, so it's not really a big deal. Congrats, and welcome to bandland!

    Bullet??

I bought a stick style hand blender for $12 and used it 3 or 4 times a day during my pre-op right up through the solids stage. Quick and easy to use, quick and easy clean up, no fuss. I'd recommend one of those for EVERY kitchen.

    February 2007 bandsters!

LOUISE!!!!!!! Wow, you're looking so great! What a difference! I'm going to have my current pic taken tonight so I can compare my pre-op pics with now. I know there's a difference, but I'm having a hard time seeing it. I know if I have a picture to look at, I'll be able to see it more clearly.

    Compliments

I feel that way, too. There aren't too many people that I haven't told about my surgery, and a *FEW* of them go out of their way to rave on and on about how good I look, and how great it is that I'm losing so much weight.....and I know in my heart that in the couple of weeks that I haven't seen them, I haven't lost ANY additional weight, so I kind of wish they would just spare me. And with one of these people, (my step-mother) it's usually in a very public setting, with lots of people around, and she's NOT a soft-spoken person, so now there are 20 more strangers that know I've had surgery, and that I'm looking SO great....When they're probably looking at me, and thinking, OMG! She looks good compared to WHAT??? I'm still 100 lbs overweight, so I'm not looking slim and trim to the casual onlooker yet. *sighs* Some people just have no sense of propriety.
  20. AMEN. Praying right along with you, Krystal.

    Blood pressure 5 days out

If you're still having some pain post-op, you can get liquid Tylenol adult strength at Walgreens, and I think some Wal-Mart stores are carrying it now. It will help you get through the next week or so, and by then you shouldn't need it anymore. If you get your pain under control, maybe your bp will come down on it's own. Just a suggestion! Hope it helps!

    Body Odor

I've smelled these men (and women, too!). Unfortunately, they don't have to be overweight to smell bad. It's simply poor hygiene habits. I was in line in a grocery store behind one of these people, and was trapped there by the person behind me. When I got my first whiff of this person, it was ALL I could do to keep myself from gagging. I'll never understand why some people just don't care or don't know they should care about using soap and Water on a daily basis. (---rabbit trail alert---) I have a family member who is this way, she thinks that showering is something to only be done once a week, and NEVER washes her hands. I can't stand to even THINK about eating anything she cooks. EEWWWW!
  23. Wow, you are so brave for coming on here and being so brutally honest about yourself. These things are hard to admit even to ourselves, never mind anyone else. How great is it that we have this board to turn to when we need support? I hope that your renewed commitment to being healthy remains strong, and that you'll start seeing progress, and stay motivated. ((((((((HUGE HUGS))))))))

    February 2007 bandsters!

I had a horrible cough last summer that lasted almost a month, and I would cough so hard that I could feel something in my back pop. After it was all said and done, I ended up going to the chiropractor several times for a dislocated rib way up above my shoulder blade on the right side. It was horrible, so I know how you feel! I hope you and Teacher get better soon!
  25. How much are you exercising? I have been lax about getting my big butt moving lately, and the scale is telling me every morning that I haven't.
