What do you do after you PB

After a PB, you'll be irritated and swollen, so switch to liquids for 24 hours, then I'll do mushies for 24 hours, and then try solids again. Easy does it, hang in there!

    Mushie Stage Woes

When someone asks you how much you've lost, just say, I'm not sure, but I feel great, thanks for asking! That should send the right message, that it's none of their business, and make them feel just a bit guilty about asking how much you've lost...WITHOUT being a jerk about it.

    After Fill Bruised. Normal??

I always have bruising after a fill as well. Don't feel a thing during the fill, but the next day, I have bruising, and it hurts then for about a week. Nothing too major, just discomfort.

    Feb Bandsters June Challenge

All right, so maybe I was beating myself up over nothing... I got up this morning (I am a once-a-day weigher...I'll explain later) and I was at 230.1!!!!!!!!!! Only thing I can figure is that I was still retaining water a whole week after my period was over. I went to the bathroom before I went to bed last night, and then I got up 5 or 6 times through the night and had to go again....I know diabetics do this, and I was diagnosed with diabetes before surgery, so I checked my sugar, and it was normal, so water retention is all I can figure. On the weighing once a day. I do this NOT to obsess over my weight, but just as a barometer on how I'm doing. If it's up, I know something I did in the last couple of days needs to be looked at. And since I'm keeping a food and exercise log, it's pretty easy to see patterns. Anyway, I do still need to buckle down and quit eating the crap, and get back on track with my exercise.

Skinnyjeans, port pain if you eat too much....funny you should mention it, YES, sometimes if I eat too much, my port area hurts! What gives? I thought I was nuts, and that there was no way that was really what I thought it was.... LOL! Honestly, I thought I was going out of my mind. I went on a nice long bike ride with hubby tonight. We took our time, and just rode around town. The only bad thing was, we waited until after dark to go because of the heat, and I ended up getting bugs in my eyes, up my nose, and in my mouth. ICK! I want a bodybugg or an actitrainer SO bad I can taste it. I'd love to be able to see exactly how many calories I'm expending, compared to how many calories I'm consuming. I think I'm leaning toward the actitrainer because it's cheaper than the bodybugg, for one, and for another, the actitrainer has a sleep monitor, you wear it at night, and it tells you how well you're sleeping, how many times you awaken, and how long it takes you to get back to sleep, and what quality of sleep you're getting. That would be very interesting, I think. I'm just afraid of buying something like that, spending that kind of money on it, being obsessed with it for awhile, and then burning out, and quit wearing/using it, and the money is wasted. *sigh* What do you think? Anybody have any opinions on this?
  6. The gas from surgery isn't in your digestive tract, so you won't be able to burp it out. Your body has to absorb it, and it will take a few days. Keep walking, I was banded in early Feb, and it was snowy outside, so I just paced around my house as much as possible. Hang in there, and we'll help you through this. Here's to a speedy recovery, and WELCOME to bandland! Keep on sip sip sipping away!

    too tight for broth?

If you are still having trouble getting liquids down, try warm liquids, that can help loosen things up a bit. Warm tea, and then maybe some room temperature Water. Monday is a long way away if you can't drink anything!

Thanks, I needed that. You said just what I needed to hear. I just need to keep reminding myself WHY I did this, and stop buying the junk.... I think that's most of my problem, I'm eating around the band, not letting it do it's job by doing mine.

WHAT FOODS GETS STUCK or give you problems?

    any deli sliced meat. OWWW!!!

    too tight for broth?

I agree with Ariel, it's a good idea to go get a small unfill, rather than spending some time in the ER with an IV for fluids because you waited too long, and are dehydrated.

    Being stuck

Having food stuck doesn't feel like choking, it feels like pressure and PAIN in your sternum area. Most times, if you give it a minute or two, (DON'T try to wash it down...just WAIT) it will pass. Other times, you'll sort of burp, (Productive Burp, or PB) and the offending food will come up. This is not like vomiting, really more like burping. Sometimes it will be accompanied by some heinous slime.... Everyone's experiences are different, and I've even found that it's not always the same for me every time. It should be avoided, if possible, and this can MOST times be accomplished by 1. Take small bites 2. Chew Chew Chew Chew 3. Slow down and THINK about each bite....Am I still hungry? Or am I SATISFIED? If you're satisfied, and no longer hungry, stop eating for a few minutes. If the hunger returns, then take another bite... Sometimes, though, even if you've done everything right, it can still happen. If it happens often, and you're following your surgeon's recommendations for eating, then your surgeon should be contacted so he/she can try to figure out why it's happening, and remedy the situation. Hope this helps, and sorry it was so long.
  12. Yep, I was just reading this a couple of days ago. Yeah, I'm going to run out right now and get me some.....NOT! No, thank you.

    Feb Bandsters June Challenge

I was at 236 this morning. Another pound gained. DAMMIT! I did get in 45 minutes of exercise yesterday, after about a week of 15 to 30 minutes a day.... I need to re-focus my attention on drinking my water and getting in adequate protein. Buckle down and start following the "rules" again. I've been SO bad for the last couple of weeks. And I refuse to blame it on my dad's death or any of the aftermath of that, because that's a flimsy excuse at BEST. C'mon, be tough on me. Remind me of what I need to be doing, and hold me to it.... This sucks, I should be wearing my size 18's by now, and be happily into the 220's....

    myalli fat blocker?

On the Myalli website, they recommend taking a change of clothes with you because of the "treatment effects" (in other words SIDE effects) because of the oily "discharge". No, thanks!

    How long did it take...

I still order a regular entree, and take the rest home! It's nice to get as many as 4 meals out of one... I always try to make sure that it's something that re-heats well.

    Going Green

Well, I HATE Crystal Light with a passion, so I haven't had this issue. But I have heard of it before, and remembered eating too much black licorice once, and poohing green. Scared me! And then the red donut thing....Sheesh, I thought I was bleeding to death, poohing BRIGHT red. How are you doing with your band? I can't even begin to tell you how great I feel since being banded in Feb....

    Questions

What kind of dinner do you expect to not be able to eat anything? If it's during your pre or post op diet, you can always say that your doctor has you on a very strict temporary diet due to some digestive issues you're having, but not to worry, this temporary diet is sure to clear up the issue, and bring your own Protein Shake, or broth or whatever you CAN have, and don't feel obligated to tell them anything else. It's really none of their business, anyway. OR, you can tell them you're not feeling well, and not go.... There are several ways around this, it's up to you how to handle it. Just remember, it really is none of their business unless you decide to make it their business. If someone presses you, just tell them you're not comfortable talking about it.

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Hmmmm....You may be on to something there....both times I've gotten the stitch, I've gone for a ride shortly after eating dinner. I'll make sure I'm hydrated with pickle juice (lol) before my next ride, and I'll go before I eat, or wait until later. Thanks for the advice! I knew you guys would have some ideas.

    Going Green

*giggling* Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Cyndilou is right, there are dyes in a lot of foods/drinks that the body doesn't break down in the digestive process, and it comes out the same as it went in.....I once ate some kind of fritter donut thing that was red.....I almost drove myself to the emergency room until I remembered eating that, and decided to wait and see if I had any other symptoms, like diarrhea or cramping, or pain, or anything, and it ended up being nothing. It can also be caused by some vegetables. How long ago were you banded?

    Feb Bandsters June Challenge

I was afraid you'd ask.....I just got back from a bike ride, and AGAIN, I ended up with a stitch in my side, and I wasn't even 10 minutes out. WTF? I'm riding the same route I've been riding, and I don't know what the deal is, the last couple of times I've been riding, I've gotten this stitch. OUCH!!! I did get in some walking today, so I think I'll hop on the treadmill for a bit to get at least 30 minutes for today. Way to go on the sugar free jello! LOL! I have been awful, I even had some Ben & Jerry's.....gotta quit that immediately. I'm up 2 lbs from where I was....

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

I'm getting frustrated. I've been riding my new bike, (areellady's castoff ), and loving it. BUT the last 2 nights, I've gone for a ride, and I get the most horrible stitch in my side about 10 minutes into it, and it forces me to turn around and go home. I'm riding the exact same route every evening, so why is this happening, and does anyone have any advice to prevent this from happening?? HELP!!!
  23. Walk, walk, walk, walk, and when you can't walk anymore, get up and walk some more. When you're not walking, sit in a rocking chair and ROCK. Not gently, but ROCK, as hard as you can stand it without causing more pain to your incisions..... Movement is the only thing that keeps that gas from settling into one spot, causing the shoulder pain.
  24. Not to worry....every surgeon's instructions are different, it seems, and sometimes it seems to vary even by patient. Your best bet is to listen to your OWN surgeon's instructions, and go by what he/she says to do. It's hard to know who is "right", but I feel that if you're following your surgeon's instructions, then you're doing the best YOU can for yourself. Hope this helps!
