Hello! I am checking out Dr. Waldrep. Any feedback would be great!

I am a week out, and had a massage yesterday. I tried laying on my stomach in bed ahead of time just to make sure I could do it. But I had no problems at all. And, it was GREAT!

Anyone Else Have To Do 2 Weeks of Liquid Pre-Op???
Rid replied to ItsGottaGo!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 6 days post op, and did three weeks of pre-op liquids because my surgery got postponed one week. I was allowed two VERY small healthy meals a day, so it's not as restrictive as yours. Here's some things I found helped. Run all my suggestions by your doctor. Clear Liquids Isopure Protein Water. Good flavors, no carbs or sugar, and a whopping 40 grams of protein per 20 oz bottle. Several good flavors, but Ice Orange was the best. Top Ramen flavor packets. Way better than broth. As long as you don't mind the msg, it's great. Tropical sugar free popcicles. Better than the regular flavors. They are great, and were my staple. Filling, and delicious. Sugar Free Jello. These didn't end up being as good as I hoped, but they are good enough for a change of pace. FULL LIQUIDS I graduated to full liquids. Find out from your doc whether you get clear liquids or full liquids. My full liquid diet post surgery included pudding, yogurt, cream Soups, and cream of wheat. I found some great stuff in this category that I've really enjoyed this week. The biggest surprise was the gourmet soups in a box from Campbells. Portabello mushroom soup was amazing, and better than a lot of restaurants. Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me with more questions! -
If anyone has any knowledge about Waldrep, that would be great! Thanks!

Dr. Waldrep in Sacramento or Thousand Oaks?

I met with him, and he is really great. They have a new center in southern california, and it is wonderful. I'd still like to hear from a few patients, but he sounds like the guy for me. -
I am an attorney, but I don't do medical malpractice. Plus, please do not construe what I say as legal advice, but rather just a suggestion. (Now that the disclaimers are over...) I would not automatically assume that you don't have a claim. I would start by calling your local bar association and ask for names of three medical malpractice attorneys. You definitely want someone who does this on a regular basis. Have consults with every one of them. Also, talk to some friends and ask if they know any medical malpractice attorneys. A referral from someone you know is worth more than any other referral. From my limited knowledge of medical malpractice, it is difficult to file a claim. However, most med mal attorneys know other ways to file claims or complaints against the doctors. Remember that it is not about making you rich. It is about making sure that someone else doesn't get hurt. If I can be of further help, let me know.

The reverse would be the suggestion that "people who are obese have been sexually assaulted, which is the reason for the obesity." Now before I get flamed on this, I KNOW she didn't say that. It was just the suggestion. She's also clarified what she meant, so all is well. I am obese, and a former special victim's unit prosecutor. I know that some victims gain weight. I am just a little touchy when I think someone is suggesting that because someone is obese, they must have been assaulted. Again, I know she didn't mean that now. That's just where I'm coming from.

Hello! Will be banded by Dr. Ortiz August 4th. Can't wait.

Dr. C, what was your process for learning the lap band procedure? Who did you proctor with? Have any experience with the Mexico docs?

You NEVER want to mess with chest tightness. Get every test they will authorize. I had some tightness and after months of tests including an angiogram (pictures of my arteries and heart from the inside), they concluded it was anxiety and stress. Put me on some meds (beta blockers) and all was well. But every person I talked to said you NEVER mess with it. Get tested. Because if it isn't anxiety, it could be serious. Get the tests and start some form of treatment!

I'm sure you meant well by this comment, but I think it's irresponsible and offensive to state that "a lot" of obese folks were sexual assault victims. While it is true that some people who were abused as children gain weight as a defensive measure, the reverse is hardly true. Again, I'm sure you didn't mean anything by it, but man, it really rubbed me the wrong way.

any have problems with people they told about the procedure?
Rid replied to MJK Media's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
As another point, read some posts in this thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=20150 Lots of people having problems with their co-workers and friends who discount all of their success because they had the surgery, and didn't do it the "hard way". There is a stigma with some people with having this surgery. It's an argument for not telling anyone, for sure. -

I have an August 4th date, and I've been thinking about how to handle this. I think that the post regarding telling every thing BUT the band is the way I'm going to go. When I start thinking about it, it really makes sense. 4-6 weeks of liquid diet would have most people losing weight. Eating much smaller portions and exercising would do it too. And if I have some help to make me control the portions and force a liquid diet for several weeks, I don't think that is other people's business. My opinion is that I don't owe anyone an explanation. It's my choice whether I share details or not. If that's not good enough, I plan to look them right in the face: "It's tapeworms. I found if I swallow enough of them, I lose weight." :heh:
